Reviews
Great value
Course in great shape. Friendly staff and very nice ammenities. Great round!
Cool Layout
The best way to start the round off is with a nice overview of the course from the local starter. Even though he was just hanging around on his off day he was super nice and helped me with some of the tricks the course has. I do not remember his name but he mentioned that he works on Monday mornings.
fairways were in great shape. Greens were a little rough. People don't fix their ball marks the way they should.
Very good course for the price.
Admiral Baker North
Nice course Very good condition
Good layout
GPS in carts worked very well
Overall great experience
Fun playabale course / horrible staff
We play this course during the week all the time. Its a great deal during the week. Convenient, good quality, good layout. I don't think the weekend rack rates are worth it so we never play on the weekends. The North is the side you want. Although the first 9 on the South is fun before it turns into a day at the local muni.
Its a fun layout. Not overly challenging but a great mix of sifferent shots and holes designes. The course is the perfect legth where it doesnt feel short or long. Has a grest mix of doglegs, elevation changes, and blind shots.
I always struggle to shoot well at this course for some reason.
Course is always in good condition. Has great tee boxes, beautiful large greens, fairways are fine.
Might be the most equipped clubhouse in San Diego. The bar has killer Old Fashioneds too.
Only recurring problem with this place is the staff. The starter has given us some real hastles before. And by all means Do NOT try to get your military discount if you dont have your military.
I dont know what the deal with the carts at this place is. You have to complete a mortgage application to get a cart. During summer in San Diego it stays light until 8 during the equinox. This place has a firm and I mean firm bring carts back at 7:20 policy. And they make sure to remind you of this when you are trying to finish you.
Avoid the staff and cart police and it's a fun day.
Loved everything about this course
From check-in to the final par putt I loved
everything about this course and staff.
Try it you'll love it too!
County Gem
My first time playing here was way back in the 80'same, moving out of town and just returning brought me back to enjoy more rounds @ the Kid as we call it! Whomever Getz the opportunity to play here, take it and enjoy what a great course the North course is! Greens were a bit slow, but probably due to the recent warm weather! Will be playing here for many more years to come thankfully....
Challenging layout
I don't live in San Diego but come here about once a year, I always make it point to get at least one round in on the North course when I'm here. The greens are in excellent shape right now. They are rolling true and at a decent speed. Most of the military courses are open to the public, if you are an avid golfer in San Diego and haven't played at Admiral Baker then you need to go.
Good size greens/fairways
I liked the large green areas and plenty of fairways space. Due to the rains in San Diego the last few weeks the rough areas were hard to hits out of.
Great Layout
Wonderfully pleased with the layout and course. Heavy recent rains made some of the fairways difficult, but the greens were great. I would play it every time in San Diego.
Great value
I played with my wife on a beautiful sunny day and enjoyed the course. The fairways and rough were pretty bad in some spots but I am a mid teens handicap and wife low 20s so moving the ball to a better lie was all it took to settle that. The price was great on GolfNow well worth the investment of time and money. There is a range but had to hit off matts which I don't like but works to warm you up. A putting and chipping area are available. The clubhouse was real nice and fairly new I believe. The halfway house was closed but there was a cart gal. The greens were fast and hard but rolled true. We had to wait on a few holes mostly par 3s as isn't unusual at public courses. We played the north course and found the layout a pretty good test for our handicaps but not daunting. We played the North course and intend to go back and play the South soon. If you are a low handicap and looking for a challenge this course is probably not for you but if you are a snowbird (Chicago here) looking to knock the rust off your game this is perfect.
Well Maintained and Fair Layout
Even though the Military gets first choice, this course is worth trying to get a tee time on. Greens in fine condition and layout is easy to navigate and fair. Enjoyable round of golf. Well run course
First time at Admiral Baker North
We were encouraged by some people we met at another course to try Admiral Baker recently and so we gave it a try. The GolfNow Hot Deal price was very attractive and we were able to get a suitable time. There had been quite a bit of rain in the area so it was cart path only which slowed things down quite a bit and made for some long walks to our balls.
The course itself is interesting enough, although a number of the holes, especially on the front 9 are similar, flat, straight away. There are some fun elevation changes on the back.
White tees are about 6500 yards, a little hefty for seniors and the gold women's tees at 5500 are brutal. It's an old Navy course and I guess there were no women in the Navy when this was built. On many of the par 4s, the gold tees were barely 10 yards shorter. 356 yard par 4 is impossible to reach for most women over 50. And 427 with no downhill is a big ask for anyone with more than a 10 handicap. A good no-cost start would be a "combo" score card that provides about 6100 yards. But for couples to enjoy it, they need at least a dozen forward tees.
It's a pretty setting in the San Diego River valley. I find all the palm trees to be a bit odd in this venue and the multiple power lines do distract from the esthetics a bit. We will try again when it dries up again though.
