Reviews
Not Too Bad
Its been over a year since I last played the North course. The course conditions were so so, I was expecting something better based on the price.
The pace of play was very good
Good track
Nice layout, good setting, pace of play was good, for a change -greens tricky, but fair
Baker North
The greens are very thin resulting in poor to non-existent reads on putts. The same goes for the second cut and roughs around greens. Bald or in very bad shape, don't even bother to try a chip shot.
Great Course
Staff is awesome and they make their rounds around the course very frequently keeping things moving and you will never run out of beverages.
Fun course
Well designed and a great value for the price l. It has been hit or miss on the pace of play. Generally a little slower than I like but still worth it for the price
Great new experience
First time to play here and I loved it. Greens are fast, gotta be careful there. Plenty of room for us hackers.
Fairways in good shape.
Course was a fun design. Greens and fairways were in good shape but pace of play was very slow. Marshalls need to do a better job moving groups along. 18 holes in over 5 hours is ridiculous.
FUN COURSE,REAL SAND IN THE BUNKERS
This is my third time on the north course, harder than the south.
the north green have different grass.the speed is faster than it looks and the don"t seem to break.Great views, enjoyed the long par three.
The rough is shorter than before but very easy to lose your ball.
Nice corse
Nice old school course good price. Front 9 was pretty easy but the back had some challging holes
Great Value
Very accessible to downtown and in very good condition. Great value for the cost.
Rough is to rough
I liked the course very much, first time that I play the North side, views are wonderful, and the course was in very good condition.
My only complaint is that the rough areas outside of the fairways is to high! You spend so much time looking for your ball if you fall in the above mentioned areas, and that slows down play considerably.
I will definitely play this course again, but, I hope that you can mow the rough a little lower.
Big Surprise
I found this course to a great choice for the San Diego area. It has elevation changes and beautiful looking holes. I have not found a better value than this course in the San Diego area. I live in Scottsdale and now I have a reason to bring my golf clubs every time I come to Coronado.
Disappointing...expected more.
I had played the South course years before and remembered fondly, so was very excited to play the north course after the favorably reviewed redesign. And from a pure design perspective I was not disappointed. Layout was great!
Fun and challenging with a couple holes that offered great risk reward choices. A couple holes were simply very nice to look at, beautifully framed. Overall the course offered a look at what could have been.
Unfortunately, the staff did not take advantage of the opportunity. The course had extra staff in the shop and in the outside service area, all mostly standing around.
They had what appeared to be a few marshals with water running around doing everything but marshaling. As it's primarily a course for navy personnel, it's tough to mive things along and that's understandable, it's their course. It's obvious they allow outside play for monetary reasons but you never really feel truly welcome.Sort of like a private club having to go semi-private and allow outside play in versus raising dues or paying one time extraordinary dues.
We played the first six holes in one hour, the next 8 holes in a painfully slow three hours. We were halfway through hole 13 when the carts GPS started displaying messages that we had to return the carts by 6...it was 5:45. We managed to finish 13 and played the par three 14th and though there was still light available, the twosome we had been paired with decided to call it a day what with it being so slow.
Overall not what we had expected. It's too bad as the course itself is one of the better designs in the county and facilities look on par with a couple private courses.
Because of the great layout I'd still recommend it, particularly for those that have never played it before as it is really a nice course and maybe their experience will be different than ours.
Admiral Baker Civilian Player
I haven't played here in years since my military sponsor moved away. There have been many aesthetic improvements and the course was in great shape, though we played in the rain. Playing as a "twosome", we were paired with a very slow couple of older golfers (and we are over 65), so we were the group that impacted pace of play. Still finished in 4 1/2 hours letting 3 groups play through on par 3's. Challenging track for a 12 handicap but still scored well (mid 80's) hitting a lot of fairways, while my brother-in-law (20+ handicap) didn't come close to breaking 100 hitting out of the rough all day. He wants to try the "South" course next time.
North Course tougher
A little harder course than the south but great Par 3s.
Keep it in the fairway the rough is deep and can very hard to find you're ball.
The BAKER uses real sand in the bunkers, very nice.
Great Course
I can't believe I haven't heard much about this course. It's a very nice layout with some really fun holes. The course is in amazing shapes and I was very impressed by the green complexes, bunkers and tee's.
The only reason I don't give this course five stars is that the greens were in nice shape but they seemed a bit thin. I'm chalking this up to the fact that the greens were recently redone so it does take time to get a good root base established. Nice overall course and I will be back.
Fun course
The best greens i have played on in San Diego this year.
Fairways in great shape.
Great course and value!
Was my first time coming here and the staff was very courteous as well as helpful throughout the entire round. The greens were perfect and the course was challenging but forgiving. Had a great time and will definitely be back on a weekly basis with friends of course.
Fun and forgiving
This is a fun course that is well run by the Navy. The course is mostly straight forward with a couple of very difficult holes. The clubhouse is great, and the food a bargain. The pro shop is excellent.
This course needs work
The fairways need work had a lot of bare spots with thin lies, however the greens were in great shape. The pace was very slow 5 hours plus, but it was a holiday so maybe on a normal day the pace of play would be better. I would like to say is the club house is beautiful. Glad to see our tax dollars doing something useful.
