Golf Club At Terra Lago - South Course
About
Formerly known as Landmark Golf Club, the Golf Club at Terra Lago was the host of the PGA Tour Skins Game from 1999 to 2002. The club's impressive guest list includes Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. There are two 18-hole courses available called the North and the South. At 7,044 yards, Terra Lago's South Course is just barely shorter than the 7,060-yard North Course but they are equally challenging. The South is known for having one of the club's most unique and memorable holes, the par-4 second. This narrow hole runs alongside a wide canal that makes anything hit to the right impossible to play. The unique part of the hole comes as you approach the green. To cross the creek, rather than having a traditional wood bridge, the course designer crafted a bridge from an old rail car, which explains its nickname as the "Boxcar" hole.

Terra lago South Comments
Overall we enjoyed the course with the exception that on the South Course there was no cart option to purchase water, etc. This was a challenge as we were also told at the beginning of the round that no off site purchases were allowed on the course. Even at the commencement of the front nine we were not able to purchase beverages at the club house as on the South course you do not pass by the water refreshment station. Disappointing.
Great golf at a great price
We had a fun day golfing. It was a bit disorganized at check in and getting settled in our cart, but after that it was wonderful.
Desert Golf Experience
This was our first time playing this course, we were blessed to play with a couple that plays this course who gave us information on the layout which was very valuable. I’ve never played a course that looked so rugged out of bounds, we saw a number of roadrunners throughout the course. It was a great experience playing in the desert, it had a number of water hazard holes, very large bunkers all over the course, we had a blast.
Fun and somewhat challenging
Course was in good shape for just being opened after reseeding. Greens are nice and full.
Poorly Management
Golf is all about the experience as one commits 5-6 hours of their day. Terra Lago is poorly managed.
Simple things like,
1. The cart having the card open to the proper course.
2. The starter being able to advise the conditions of the fairways and greens. Instead of answering "i have no idea"
3. No beverage cart.
4. We had a small bag with bottles of water and were unprofessional barked at and ordered to put it back in the car. When we asked why we could not bring water onto the course and showed them the water. Instead of apologizing their response was "well, you should know we have water on the course. You can take water with you." Ps. the water at the water stations on some course just does not taste good. Plus with COVID we were not interested in touching buttons shared by all.
5. The GPS on tone cart was off by 8 & the other one off by 11 yards compared to our range finders.
6. The greens had ball marks all over them. Repairing them for our puts was a never ending endeavor.
7. Greens were very slow. At most a stimp of 5
8. Bunkers were more like waste bunkers. Terrible sand which was hard compact too close to the surface.
The good news,, the weather was perfect and our group still had fun as we are a fun driven bunch.
Overall, we were sad that we wasted 5 hours of our lives there.
Will Play Again
Read a few poor reviews and came in with low expectations after not playing the South course for several years. All in all, I had an enjoyable round. A playing partner told me the course was closed for 4 months to improve conditioning and to overseed. While a few holes were in less than stellar shape, I thought the course was in decent shape, overall. With most courses in the valley closed at this time for overseeding, choices are limited, but all in all this was a good value for a challenging course with interesting hole layouts.
Traps and Water
Very nice desert course with lots of challenging holes.
Great course layout
One of the most interesting courses I have ever played. BUT, the course was very wet, and the greens were shaggy, probably from overseeding. I would love to play this course, when it was in better shape.
Good, cheap golf
For $57 it was a good round. I would have been disappointed had we paid anymore. Main issue is the greens, they need some help, very inconsistent. Rest of the course is nice. I had been told the North course gets all the attention, that seems to be true. Anyways, for a good cheap round it was perfect, just lower your expectations a little. Lots of water holes, which is cool.
Just reopened
The South course just reopened yesterday. The tees and fairways were in good shape but the greens were very slow and some had some dead spots. But, we were warned there were some bad spots and they did give us a free pass to play again before the end of the year.
