South at Los Serranos Golf & Country Club

About
The South Course is the more well known of the two championship golf courses at Los Serranos Country Club. The course has a reputation for being one of southern California's longest thanks to the Jack's Black tees, which stretch to more than 7,600 yards. It is a lengthy test, but it is not as intimidating as it seems. The golf course is forgiving with par 5s that give you realistic opportunities to boost your score, though the course should not be taken lightly. Course management is the key to successfully maneuvering the elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers. The golf course finishes with its signature hole, which is also its longest at 673 yards. A lake frames the hole and accuracy with each shot is essential. It is a playable course, but beginners who aren't yet up for the challenge can try their hand at Los Serranos Country Club's shorter, more player-friendly North Course.

Horrible
Tee time was delayed about 20 minutes and they put two foursomes of slow Asians who played from the black tees and only hit it about 200 yards. We were a two some that could have easily played ahead and not had to wait at all. Instead, we had to said about 10-15 minutes between every single shot. Took over 5 hours on a Thursday at 11:20; I will never play here again and recommend that nobody else does either.
Great course
Great course. Long but fair.
It does get busy and the day can drag on so be prepared to play at least a 5 hour round. Good course though.
Best GC in the area
All good except a lot far from Irvine or LA, 50 min one way. the pace is slow like other good GC. You need more than 4-5 hrs for 18 holes. much waiting time.
Overall good course, enjoyable round.
Good: like course layout, many elevation changes from tee to green. Few carries over water. Tee boxes to green in fairly good shape, had no problems, some area ground under repair, take a drop. Most greens held approach shot, but some were hard on back nine. Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Bad: pace of play a little slow throughout the day, someone cut in front of us which made it a little worse. Did finish before dark. Like most course played resently no sand in bunkers, must adjust play like on hard pan.
Slow play !
Golf course starter changed my scheduled course that I was supposed to play without asking me. I signed up. for the South course and changed me to the North course. Pace of play was so slow that My start time was 1/2 hour delayed. I only got to play 15 holes!!!
Very enjoyable course.

unhappy surprise
I like this course in general however .my tee time was delayed almost an hour for a tournament.
AN HOUR!!!!
R U frickin kidding me?
That much delay should be a refund.
I hit traffic going home after a 5.5 hours round with the wait...
This sucks!
Sincerely disappointed
Played late morning yesterday, and went out as a single. Ran into a 5 some on the second hole which made for a rather long day.
The tee boxes were a mixed bag of sandy dirt to excellent. The sand traps were everything from rock hard packed dirt, packed sand, wet sand (meaning 90% of the sand was wet, even though we have not had any rain) to sand that was good.
The fairways were spotty, with everting from lush trimmed grass to dead weeds to dirt. The greens were medium, but extremely bumpy.
My cart lost the GPS on the second hole, but a phone call to the office got me a replacement in a few minutes. But the replacement cart, and the other carts that caught up with me had signal problems that made using the GPS unreliable.
Took just under five hours to play on a Monday, so I would like to suggest two things: a Marshall and No 5 so es, as it just makes playing a round of golf intolerable
Tough but fair
Got to hit it long here as length is the key to this course.... was in very good shape today and just know, big hitters fare better here.
Back to a favorite
Los Serranos - South is one of my favorite places to play. The course conditions were less than ideal. The fairways were aerated with the removed plugs littering the fairways so kiss any roll on your drives goodbye; And it’s a bit distracting on your approach shots as well. That wasn’t mentioned by Golf Now when making the reservation or by the course staff.
There are areas of the course that were so wet that my ball plugged and other areas that were dry and bare.
The bunkers are actually an abomination for a course of this quality, they are in reality dirt pits with rocks and 2 of the 3 I was in were crusty and hard with little of what’s being passed off as sand. I wouldn’t really care but it costs shots when you can’t get under the ball in the sand.
The greens are in good shape and they would stay that way if more players fixed ball marks and spike marks.
Great Course - Los Serranos South
Can’t believe I played this course for less than $25 dollars. I played on a Monday and the course was in excellent condition. Absolutely no waiting! I tee off from the Black Tees on #18 and I have never played a 677 yard hole. What a great experience and I will return to play again.
Greens rolling great/Pace of play no bueno
Had a two tee times at 8:16 and 8:24 in the morning on LS South.
Played week prior and greens were in fantastic shape minus some unrepaired ball marks from the uncaring crowd, hence our return to the same outstanding, fast and smooth greens.Kudos to course maintenance as this track gets a ton of play.
Heard starting call the 3rd and final group of a Sunday players club, which were to follow. No problem right, it is decently early I thought to myself as sunrise was 7 a.m and these guys will move around the course. Boy was I wrong, as we waited on each and every shot to the tune of a 5 hour round. We alerted the Marshall on hole 7 as the group in front of us was already a hole and half behind. He was kind enough to alert the group but to no avail. Once we made the turn we noticed the group that was a hole and half in front of them was also behind a hole.Especially painful was the time they spent on the greens with marking every putt and refusing to putt out.
Pace of play was great for these two groups who held us and everyone behind us up. Show some courtesy guys!! Was in agony the last two holes, no one should endure a 5 hour round that early.
The staff in the pro shop and dining area are the best btw. Love the course but need to play earlier I suppose to avoid these types of groups.
Paid for the South, but played the North
I think this club is great and can’t wait to play the South Course. I was put off by not being told about a tournament on the South course and being moved to the North without being told by any staff. Still liked the North. Greens should be rolled to eliminate inconsistencies. Will be back.
