Good public course
Enjoyable course close to San Diego downtown. A little dry, can be very busy with a slow pace of play at peak times. Some very dry dusty areas with no grass, but overall course is pretty fair.
Nice place to Play
A lot of people say that the course is easy. If that were the case then their scores would be PAR or lower. The course has just enough challenges to make it interesting, but it is also fun to play. The front 9 is "target" golf and the back 9 is a totally different style of play.
Good value
Short, but shot demanding. Lots of elevation changes and dog legs with a few blind tee shots. Fairways are coming back from aeration, very firm, tight lies. Greens are very good.
This course has interesting layout.
Although relatively a short course in yardage, it requires accurate ball placement otherwise you can easily get into trouble.
Great course for average golfers.
Played this course twice. Once last fall, and once this spring. The greens are in superb condition and are tricky. The staff are easy to speak with. Lots of trees while course layout remains very open. Average golfers can enjoy rounds without too much pressure.
Over Priced
Mediocre Golf Course Maintenance.
Sandy greens dry (except morning dew)
Balls hit 5 yards off fairway are completely not visible unless you are directly over them because the grass has not been cut.
At the turn, trailer snack bar not open. Went upstairs to order window to order from the posted menu, was told that they had nothing but beer and mixed drinks and that the trailer would open in 15 min.
Overall, not a good experience.
The heat of summer
The late afternoon rounds when it starts to heat up out here makes for a beautiful end of day.
Slow play / No carts = Over Booked
3 hour front 9. 20 minutes behind scheduled tee time because there's no carts because it's super overbooked every weekend. Plan accordingly.
Decent Course, Long Waits
We made a spontaneous decision to play while visiting San Diego. The price was great and had times available in early afternoon. The major issue for me was they had too few carts, which caused a long delay to start. Everyone had to wait for people to finish their round for a cart to be available. My wait lasted about 40 minutes past scheduled time. Several groups went off as twosomes due to the wait, which slowed play. We only got 15 in due to darkness. Two different locals told us they had never seen them run out of carts. They must have packed the course full.
The front 9 was okay, with a creek coming into play on almost all holes. There were several blind tee shots, necessitating care to be sure the group in front was clear. The back 9 was a different course altogether. It had a number of sloping fairways and great views of Lake Murray.
We had 3 and 4 groups on each hole on the front, but the back was very open due to several leaving after long waits on the front. Still a nice day in great weather, that could have been better if not so slow.
Tee times backed up by 45 minutes due to lack of golf carts. Was only able to play 4 holes in 2 hours due to it being so backed up. If I have to go back, it will be early morning to avoid the terrible mid to late day organizational issues
Slow players/flooded
The drainage is horrible on the front 9. With all the rain we've had, the front 9 was a swamp. The back 9 was nice and dry. Every time I play this course, the pace of play is rediculous! Always waiting and waiting... The ambassadors need to stay on top of the pace of play and say something to the slower players.
Pace of play
Mission trails is a nice course when they don't overbook. I've been 5-6 times and it always it overcrowded. At one point there were 6 full carts of golfers waiting to tee off on hole 6. The works don't see to care about that fact.
If you are lucky enough to book on a light traffic day you will enjoy this course. Don't go on a weekend or after work.
