Hidden Gem
No big fancy club house or driving range, just kind of country charm and muni track feel. Then you get out on the course and are blown away. Stunning golf course with challenging holes and awesome views. Couple of rough patches with cart path as they work to get them fixed, but takes nothing away from the course. Drove almost an hour to play here, and will happily make the trip again.
Gorgeous course
One of my favorite courses. Excellent condition, only issue is pace of play. Round took over 5 hours and didn’t even finish all 18. Had to leave and get to wotk.
A golfers course
We have played Island Pointe for years. It is always a great test of golf. Not a good course if you can't hit the ball pretty straight. First hole is easy, but after you play 2-5 you will know what you are in for! Many challenging approach shots, always important to keep it in the fairways, and the greens hold good shots and offer plenty challenges. New clubhouse renovations are really nice, especially the new eating area and the outside deck. If you are a senior, buy the senior card ... best senior deal in Knoxville!!
Beautiful, but overpriced and UNDER CONSTRUCTION
I hate leaving a negative review for such a beautiful course, but despite the natural beauty and awesome layout, I don't see myself playing here again anytime soon and especially not for a penny over $25. There's lots of water, cool bridges, friendly clubhouse staff, and wildlife everywhere, but the course is in rough shape with active construction projects on virtually every hole. Honestly, I can look past a lot of the construction work and poor course conditions given the beauty of the course and the repair work it desperately needed after the bad weather last season, but there's no excuse for rude grounds crew refusing to move and let you play through on a hole after you've been waiting patiently for 5 minutes. Once I finally gave up and decide to skip the hole rather than hit onto the green they are hanging out on, they finished up their work and decided to catch up with me at the next tee box so they could race past me on gators and cut across the fairway while I was trying to tee off just so they could park by this green and play on their phones. Again, almost every hole had some weird thing like this happen. It felt like the course wasn't supposed to be open and the golfers were inconveniencing the grounds crew. In the 20 plus years I've played golf I've never had a less welcoming and overall frustrating experience due to the condition of a course and the complete lack of respect by a grounds crew. It's such a great course, but not worth the money given the condition and staff issues. I'd recommend steering clear of this one and checking out Wild Laurel or The Greens at Deerfield instead if you're in the area.
Well on the recovery trail.
While I had never played here before I was fortunate to have been paired with a couple of local regulars who were a wealth of knowledge in managing the course. I only wish I could have applied it better. The greens and the fairways were in amazingly good condition for the hot conditions it has been experiencing. The tell tale signs of Helene are still evident but the recovery looks outstanding. I would recommend playing here if you’re in the area and will certainly return when I am again. Two thumbs way up to the grounds crew and staff.
Quickly becoming one of my area favorites
Having nice greens is #1 on my criteria for rating a course, and the greens were in excellent shape, and on the faster side of what I've experienced locally. Winding around and over the river, this course has some very underrated views, and with a bit of trimming/pruning could be really stunning. The hurricane flooding last year wiped out a pretty sizeable chunk of the course, but they've recovered those holes nicely and it has opened up some of the views. The course begs you to play aggressively, but there are a lot of places where trouble can sneak up on you quickly. I've been finding myself driving 40 minutes across town to play here instead of other courses that are close to home. Pace of play was good. I even had my 12 year old son play with us (who had never played a full round of golf before) and our threesome was done in about 3:45 and we stopped at the turn. For perspective we teed off at 1:50 on a Saturday afternoon.
Visiting
First time playing, from Cincinnati. The course was challenging, greens in excellent shape.
Great challenge great course
Beautiful course, par 5’s are super tough. Fairways, tees and greens great shape. Rough is a little “rough” but great layout and course.
Solid
The course was in great shape. I was the last one to tee off that day (single) at 3:30 pm on a Thursday. Unbelievable! Encountered only one other group on #4 and quickly played through. Yes, still some cart path damage from floods and 3rd tee box was closed. No sweat though. That little 40 yard par 3 made for an easy bird. Folks were friendly in the clubhouse and a clubhouse expansion is in the works. If they do it right, this could eventually be the best course in East Tennessee
Challenging but fair
Great layout, the course itself was in very nice shape, wonderful greens. They are still working on fixing damage from Helene but it doesn't really effect play. Definitely would recommend, but make sure you have an app with the course routing as there are a few tee shots that are hard to see the landing areas.
