Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort
About
The second of two Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designs at Desert Willow resort in Cathedral City, Mountain View is a little shorter (6,913 yards) and boasts wider fairways than the Firecliff Course.
There are also half as many bunkers as at Firecliff. Which still means there are 98 here.
Still, water comes into play more on Mountain View. The course name is no misnomer either. Golfers actually do get great views of the Santa Rosa Mountains as they take on Hurdzan's desert landscaping. This is resort golf with real nature touches.

Simply stunning! Photo submitted by ForeinSD on 05/09/2017
Great Course
This was a beautiful and challenging course. Staff was professional and the staff was following and really impressed us on their Covid-19 preparedness. The fairways were in great shape. Some of the greens were rough but I’m not complaining I highly recommend playing Desert Willow.
What a nice find!
I’ve been spoiled by relatives belonging to La Quinta. Mountain course, Dunes course, but mostly the private Citrus course. A member recommended Desert Willow. Had no idea what to expect. It was awesome. I teed off at 2:55 in early June and paid $51.00. Perfect!!
Highly recommend!!
Two great tracks!
I played both courses today- 36 holes in under 5 hours total. Had a 10:30 tee time. Both courses were in great shape. Fun layouts. Mountain was great, definitely better potential for scoring, I just wasn’t hitting it that well. Surprisingly got it together for Firecliff and played great the 2nd round. Will definitely be back!
Nice course.
I thought it was a little to wide open but very nice. The sand was a little iffy.
Great Find
Our round at Stone Eagle was cancelled due to the Corona Virus. Got on line and found this course. We paid less than what we were going to pay at Stone Eagle and got a great value in return. Course is immaculate. It rained most of the back nine, so the weather impacted what was a great golf course. Will come back and play the other course. Can’t believe this is a muni and owned by the city. Highly recommend.
Desert Willow Gem
First time playing mountain view and was not disappointed. Both courses here and the facility are top shelf and would recommend to anyone. Pace of play could use a little work but I say that everywhere.
The best public golf course I have ever played!
This is a hidden gem among a plethora of courses in the Palm Springs area. The fairways are in perfect condition, and the rough is equally in perfect condition.
The entire course is expertly manicured, and the greens roll true. Definitely worth the money!
What no range!
The booking on GolfNow did not tell us that the range was closed. That’s a pretty important detail.
Marshall’s were non existent. A twosome backed up four groups behind them by the 4th hole and the marshalls never came out to speed them up.
Great Golf Course!
Several people had told me to
Play here and now I get it. What a gem, great views, great course, great time. Played the Purple tees and loved it. Tough but fair. Pace of play was perfect despite the frost delay. Restrooms appeared as you need them. Staff is fantastic, and very helpful. Can’t wait to come back.
Great Public Gem
This is a great place to play when in Palm Springs/Palm Desert area. Very friendly staff. Nice practice facility. Golf academy on property. Well maintained. Advance reservations highly recommended. The greens can be tricky as many are convex in shape. Layout is beautiful.
The sister course Firecliff is also well worth playing.
Mountain View plays through Westin Desert Willow Resort
and one can easily walk from the resort, or have staff give you cart ride. Also a beautiful place to stay/visit.
Hidden Gem
Mountain View at Desert Willow might get overlooked because it is a city owned public golf course- but any ideas about ‘MUNIS” go out the window here. From the minute you pull up and are greeted by one of the super friendly valet guys, they grab your bags and get you squared away in minutes. The pro shop is well stocked and the restaurants are fantastic.
The course has all you want no matter what tees you play and I have played them all. It is always in great shape in season and in the summer. There are always marshals and I have never had a round even in the busiest of times that took over 4 hours. Great risk reward holes and the greens are always well taken care of. Don’t write either course off at Desert Willow Firecliff with all its bunkers and Mountain View are always a great time.
Not great
Horrible course conditions on the Mountain Course and completely torn up. It took until the 11 to hole for a never gave cart to get to us. What a bummer.
not good value for the money
we played at fire cliff before very good condition. we thought would be the same at the mountain but it is not.the second hole partial green was no grass.
