Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort

About
The second of two Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designs at Desert Willow resort in Cathedral City, Mountain View is a little shorter (6,913 yards) and boasts wider fairways than the Firecliff Course.
There are also half as many bunkers as at Firecliff. Which still means there are 98 here.
Still, water comes into play more on Mountain View. The course name is no misnomer either. Golfers actually do get great views of the Santa Rosa Mountains as they take on Hurdzan's desert landscaping. This is resort golf with real nature touches.

Disappointed
The course layout is good but the greens were very slow and bumpy. The pace of play was slow and there weren’t any marshalls monitoring the pace
Review
The Mountain View course was in excellent condition. It is always one of the best kept courses in the Coachella Valley.
Amazing course.
Immaculate course with fuzzy greens
Braved the heat to play mountain view in "summer conditions" (longer greens, cut at 8 as per pro shop) for about $60. Other than continuously cursing myself for leaving putts short, l had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed this course (great condition, love the desert landscaping). Bonus: Finished in just under 4 hours.
Great practice area with range and chipping greens.
Staff was super friendly and accommodating. I was paired with an older gentleman and they disabled/turned down the GPS restrictions to allow us to roll right up to the greens so he didn't have to walk up any slopes. He also was only playing 9 so they picked him up on the 9th green (9 doesn't not end at the club house).
Price too high
Course is too expensive for summer play. I’m sure this is a great course in peak season and worth the money paid, however, it is not worth the money in summer. It should be a 80 dollar course at best.
Played Mountain View and conditions were decent for summer, greens pretty slow. Would like to play firecliff in the peak season to compare.
great place to play
good course, Still think there prices are to high for the hot weather. Course is emply, July and Aug. Had to serach hard to find a good price. And I stayed there!
Hot Day
My buddies and I enjoyed our round at Desert Willow. While we chose a very hot time to visit, we are from Arizona so we are used to July weather. The staff at the course was very accommodating offering cold towels and water on the course. They came out a couple of times to make sure we were handling the heat well. Quick stop in the bar afterwards for a beer. Welcomed and treated just fine. We will be back…maybe during a different month.
Desert Willow Mountain Course
Everything about the course was enjoyable. It was in very good condition considering the time of year,(middle of July,). Fairways were generous and the greens were hard and true. We played 18 holes in a little less than three hours. What a joy that was!!! Will definitely recommend this course to fellow golfers.
Poor Greens
If it wasn’t for the greens being in their current condition this course is usually one of the best in Palm Springs . I have played here several times in the past and usually find this place to be a great value with an excellent staff .
The staff people that helped my group were as usually top notch . Fairways - tee boxes - sands traps were all OK . Hopefully the greens will start to improve soon .
one of favorites
Due to early summer heat overall conditions weren't as good as expected, only 4 stars this time. Still love the course and the staff.
Summer golf
Great course. Early summer abnormal heat wave so a bit warm to get 5 stars. Otherwise it is always fun to play DW.
Great Course but greens need repair.
It was great fun to play the course during a heat spell in the desert. Very few golfers made for excellent pace of play.
The greens are dead!
My brother and nephew flew in to play golf and I booked a 3-some on GN. Arrived 1 hour early to be told by the starter that, "a single would be joining us and that he was on the range". Ok??? It was 102 degrees that day and our tee time was for 11:35 (45 minutes away). There were a total of 8 golfers, including us, on the entire course that day-- and the starter wanted to put a single with us? And share a cart? This starter kept coming out to the range to see if we were ready. The second time he came out he said, "you need to go now because there was a slow four-some about to tee off". I finally told him that our tee time was at 11:35 and we would be ready at 11:30. Did this starter have somewhere to go? It was also weird that this starter could not spare an extra cart to let a single go by himself on a hot day, with no one on the course? It got worse from there because the first 9 greens were completely a mess. Diseased and dying with clumps of mud and sand. We had to play a "maximum two-putt rule" because the greens were unplayable for the first 9 holes. The second 9 were barely playable. It's sad, this is a great course. I just wish that they would have advertised that ALL of there greens were dead and we would be putting on sand and mud in their place. I would definitely AVOID this place until they replace their greens. Maybe next year?
