Ever since it debuted in 2003 and started earning raves for being one of Northwest Florida's premier courses. This semi-private layout is the star amenity of an 800-acre residential development that touches Choctawhatchee Bay. Robert C. Walker, formerly the lead architect of Arnold Palmer's design company, laid out Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club amidst a nature preserve near the south shore of the bay. While you'll feel the breezes as you play this stalwart of Florida's Emerald Coast region, the water views during the round are of the wetlands, streams and manmade lakes that lend beauty and challenge to the game here. Plenty of trees, bulkheads lining the hazards and bright white sand in the predominantly shallow bunkers add extra aesthetic panache when you play at Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club. With so much water and trouble all around, you'll need to execute numerous forced carries on your drives and approach shots. A couple of holes feature island-like fairways.

Regatta Bay Golf and Yacht Club delivers a classic brand of Florida target-style golf, though it's a challenge everyone can enjoy. Moderately skilled players will be relieved that some of the hazards and shot prospects seem more intimidating than they really are. The game at Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club comes to a crescendo finish. On the tricky par-4 16th you must avoid the water on the left and the marsh that crosses the fairway. While the redesigned 17th may be a drivable par 4 for long hitters, for most players the primary task is executing a forced-carry tee shot over water that finds the fairway in a spot short of the bunkers that intercede before the green. The finishing hole at Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club is a reachable ball 5 that hooks around a large lake with the green tucked hard by the hazard. It's the last test of a day of golf filled with strong and intriguing holes.

The club's extensive practice facilities include a golf academy with a canopy cover and a nice clubhouse with a lakefront restaurant that's ideal for winding down after your game. It's no wonder that Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club is such a popular place to play in golf-rich Destin.

Course layout is nice. The 250 dollars paid for the round was extremely overpriced with all of the ground under repair/fertilizer,paint on the greens/construction throughout the entire course. Several tee boxes were grown up as if we were hitting out of the rough. Did not see beverage cart until the 13th hole. Stopped to grab a quick snack at clubhouse at the turn since we had not seen anyone on beverage cart, and were told we needed to keep our pace of play when we were already 15 min ahead of pace. Staff was nice overall, but very dissatisfied paying that much with the course conditions being the way they were. Managing a golf course is by no means an easy task, and obviously a lot of the work has to be done to take care of it, but should not be charging that much for the shape things were in.

I was pleasantly surprised of how much better the course was this year than previous years. I have played Regatta for several years and I thought several years ago it was the best in Destin and then it was less than stellar for a few years. This year it was back in really good shape. The only thing that really is a negative is that the price is just simply too expensive with morning tee times in excess of $200.00. As much as I love this golf course the price may prohibit my wife and I from playing here in the future.

Great round of golf

The weather was perfect and the course is challenging and fun to play, the clubhouse is gorgeous and the staff is top notch. Chad meet me and loaded my cart and answered all of my first time there questions, the bartender (Kenny) was great and also helpful, I unfortunately didn’t get the pro shops names, but they were awesome too. My only negatives were unavoidable, they apparently hire out a lot of their landscaping and they managed to dust me with mowers twice, not intentionally I think, Not enough players worry about their divots, not the courses fault but annoying none the less, the Marshall checked on us twice to make sure we were good and if we were happy with the rate of play, our cart girl (on a Tuesday, which I didn’t expect) checked on us about every forth hole. The course was in good shape but they are doing some work near the 18th tee. The greens were in good shape and played well, not too slow or too fast and some challenging layouts. It is a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion, I will definitely play here every time I’m in Destin from now on. Hands down, one of the best experiences/courses I’ve played in the area!
