Crooked Cat at Orange County National

Found the course in very good condition, including greens.

For a course that has hosted the PGA Q-school, a Korn Ferry tour stop, and multiple state-wide tournaments, Crooked Cat was a bit of a disappointment. Having played here many times in the past, the course conditions were not up to the superior standards of my past experiences. However, it is only fair to note those past experiences have spoiled me and may have caused my current expectations to be a little unreasonable given the recent FL weather patterns while I was up north. So, overall, I would say the course is in good, but not great, condition with the greens rolling true and at a decent speed. The tees, for the most part, are in good shape with a a few suffering some sparse growth. Bunkers are consistent and well maintained. As for the rough, it is fair and not intimidating. My main criticism is that the fairways are unusually thin with some bare spots, especially the first hole. Even so, the Cat is a solid track worthy of recommendation and well worth the current reasonable fees.

Breezed through first 7 holes in under an hour, then next 7 took over 2hrs, gave up and left. A round should not take over 3hrs, not one ranger seen all day.

I read the "Mediocre at Best" review and wondered how CC could have gone down so fast. News Flash: It didn't. The course was beautiful. Mowed down tight from the fairways to the greens. The rough was low enough to find your ball but high enough to mess with your ball flight. The bunkers were edged and raked.

All in all... A nice course in great shape.

OCN. Crooked Cat is how a golf course should look and play! It’s definitely a “big boy course”, you need to come out ready to play! If you’re hitting well and play smart golf, you’ll have a great time…if not, well you’ll definitely learn what you need to work on. As always, the course was in great condition and the staff and facilities were great.

Had a blast playing this course. Pace of play was good considering it was Labor Day and busy. The course is extremely well maintained, visually pleasing, and challenging enough to make you think but not so challenging that you can’t enjoy it. One of the most fun rounds I’ve played. The driving range is neat, too. Would go back anytime.

The course conditions at Crooked Cat are just average. It is living on a past reputation. The fairways were sparse and not plush like times gone by. The greens were freshly cut, but the grain was erratic. The greens were too long for dwarf bermuda. They could really use a good roll to get rid of the patchwork grain effect. The Marshall was totally useless at maintaining a good pace of play. He patrol of the course was backwards. He was constantly telling us that it was slow, but didn't seem to make an effort to correct it. I was surprised by his acceptance of a group of five playing ahead of us for 8 holes. Based upon my experiences in golf all over the southeast, they are way overpriced for what they offer.

Course was in good condition. Greens were very good. Pace of play as always there was very slow. We saw rangers for the first few holes, but never saw them again. Overall, I would highly recommend both courses there, but be prepared for a long round.

Course is recovering from maintenance. Some of the fairways (especially #1) need some time to recover. They are not as “plush” as usual. The bunkers are perfect. The greens roll fine but need about 1 more week for a few aeration marks to cure. The layout is still terrific and the course does play longer than the scorecard yardage. The trees continue to get bigger and impact approach shouts that are played from the wrong side of the fairway. Miss a tee shot on the wrong side of the cart path- good luck finding it, as it is very thick. If you do find it - your only option is chopping it out . As mentioned the course does play long, which is fine- but it also plays slow. Be prepared to wait between shots, as the difficulty combined with people playing from the wrong tees can slow the pace of play.

It’s better than 4 stars, but just not 5. Solid layout, conditions and staff. Played Panther years ago.

Some fairways were a bit disappointing, but overall, course was great, considering the amount of heat we've seen this summer. Staff couldn't point you in the right direction though... and all signs on the course pointing you to snack bar, lead you to a closed window.
