Crooked Cat at Orange County National

This course is in excellent conditions. Nice layout.I played with my wife in 3:30hrs.

We drove an hour and a half to play Crooked Cat and now we need to come back!

We got to the course about an hour before our tee time so we could hit some balls on the range before teeing off. The staff was very friendly and helpful which was great because it was our first time at the course.

The range was very large and it was nice to hit off of actual grass and not mats but you could tell the area they used for the range was worn in and could use some rotation or repair. It was tough to find large patches of grass to hit from. The range is HUGE so it would have been nice if the hittable area of the range was rotated to an area with better grass.

Once we got on the first hole, it started raining, of course..... It was about 50 degrees and rainy for the whole round. We only played 9 holes and then called it a day and got a rain check for the back 9.

Even in the terrible conditions, the course played super nice. The greens were still fast and the links style course played a bit challenging with the undulation around the green. It was a fun day, even in the weather, so we are excited to come back and use our rain check on a better day!

The one gripe I had with the course was that we were told by the ranger driving around multiple times that we needed to pick up our pace of play because there was a hole and a half between us and the group in front of us. Normally I am happy that there is a ranger keeping up pace of play (I heard slow play was an issue here), but the group behind us was not hitting into us or even waiting for us. We couldn't even see them when the ranger came up to us. We were only 10-15 minutes over a 4 hour pace, and with the weather conditions, the course being empty, it being our first time playing, and the course being cart path only, we felt that it was unnecessary to bother us several times about pace of play.

Overall, the course facility is top level and hard to find a better public facility anywhere. 2 outstanding courses, in very good condition in addition to the short course. They have to have one of the best practice areas you’ll find so also a good place to improve your game. If I lived in the area, definitely a course I would be playing consistently.

I happen to be 69 years old playing with 30 year old so. Was major hardship playing course

Also no water available on course on a 83 degree humid day

I was really looking forward to playing this course after having played Panther Lake earlier on this year. I am a woman…sitting on a handicap of 11….and have a long drive. I chose the ladies green tees to play from as the course distance was less than my home course of Carnoustie. I felt the course layout was poor. 1 of the par 3’s has endless bunkers all the way up the fairway to the green. They were not strategically place….just lots of them. In the second half I enjoyed their signature hole as it was a case of thinking it through…however you needed a good drive to your first landing spot. Not many ladies could achieve this distance to be able to clear the water. Moving on however I was dismayed at the par 3…I think it was possibly the 16th? You had to drive to clear the water. I made it….just….but know that even our Club Champion wouldn’t have managed it. My complaint would be that there was no option to circumnavigate the water. You had to cross it from all tees all be it the Tan ones gave you a better chance. If you hadn’t started out playing from the Tan tees…then you were beaten at this point. Scorecard blown completely out of the water! Course design should also give you a second option…and this wasn’t the case here. The condition of the course was first class however. A top tip…don’t play if it’s cart path only. You’ll end up walking more often than not. It’s a real trek across the fairways to play your ball…and often you have the wrong club in your hand. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Gents toilets….according to my husband we’re badly needing cleaned.

Excellent experience. I had an afternoon tee time… When I arrived, tee times were running behind because the course hosted morning events that experienced a rain delay, so the events were going longer than expected. Instead of having us tee off late and potentially not finish 18, one of OCN’s course managers had a few groups go off a different 9, which allowed us to finish and improved pace of play for everyone. Thank you to that gentleman!

As for the course itself, conditions were terrific. Won’t find a better public course around central Florida imo

The round was great overall, but this course is tough. I had a nice group of playing partners and the weather was perfect. Even when you play smart, prepare to give some strokes back on the greens, very fast and not easy to read. Also, high winds are a factor that should not be ignored, especially in hurricane season.

Course was in good condition and greens were the best played this holiday but I'm afraid that's where the good ends. It's never good when you can't finish a round due to the pace of play. We waited on almost every tee and subsequent shots thereafter, seriously think players need to be reminded about etiquette and management have to find a balance between maximising revenue and customer satisfaction. Only played 15 holes in just under 4 hours which is unacceptable.
