Verrado Golf Club - Founders Course
About
John Fought and Tom Lehman collaborated on the course at Verrado Golf Club, a voluptuous design that meanders through the old Caterpillar bulldozer proving grounds. It's up and down for 18 holes and that doesn't mean "chip and a putt." The course is good test with chances to score and a handful of memorable and scenic holes.
Where Verrado Golf Course will eat you alive is in the bunkers. Some bunkers are hard to carry, others collect wayward shots. But the fairways are wide enough to avoid trouble, and what appears to be the safe shot off the tee will often bring greenside bunkers more into play. So pick your poison.
While the back nine is far superior to the front, going out still has its fair share of memorable holes. A huge boulder 30 feet tall on the par-4 eighth jets out from the left side around which the fairway shapes itself. A perfect line from the tee box is to take the ball five yards right off its edge, but hitting the boulder is certain death by desert. The boulder was scheduled to crumble via dynamite, but stood up to the TNT and was deemed an immoveable object. Open and playable for all skill levels, the Verrado Golf Club is a sublime experience.

Golfer Reviews
Best Experience I’ve had this summer.
I work at a golf course in Phoenix, and during the summers my coworkers and I play all the different courses around the valley. So far this summer this was by far the best experience we have had. Fantastic course in perfect condition. Not just summer condition either. The course was in good condition for winter expectations. For $60 and a meal included at their restaurant there has not been a better deal I’ve found. Would recommend to anyone and will certainly be back
Fun day
Heat was at 115 but there was plenty of water on the course. Grass was browning up in a few places (to be expected with record heat) but fairways were well maintained and greens rolled true. Course maintenance were water and taking care of course. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful
staff of course and restraunt were best I ever experinced
Always Solid Track
I love the Verrado courses, great layout, tough but fair, greens always role consistent, course of play was a little slow due to groups of 4, 2, 4, 2.....the great thing about AZ golf in summer is the values found but also brings golfers of lower ability. Golfers can be poor players and still play quick.
Worth the drive!
Finally got out to Verrado, and it was definitely worth the long drive! We played the founders course with another twosome. Great day. Course was great. Very nice layout. Good pace. Conditions way above average for summer. Will definitely be back. Only regret is that I’d waited so long to finally get out there.!
WELL DONE FOUNDERS!!
I forgot how nice this course was especially when you consider some of the courses seem to still be using covid as an excuse to not provide a good golf experience. This is not one of those courses. Specifically: there’s water coolers on every other hole... some of the courses still don’t have water coolers out. Saw the refreshment cart 4 times.... often at other area local clubs I’m lucky to see the refreshment cart once a round. There’s actually sand in most of the traps and golfers are raking up after themselves. The course was in overall very good condition given the climbing temps.
If you’re tired of clubs still using covid as a reason to not provide the golf experience you deserve come here, you won’t be disappointed.
Beautiful Course But tough.
Course was in great shape and beautiful. Tough everything does run to the desert. Very nice fairways. I think? No when on them very nice. Enjoyed the round
