Great course
Staff were friendly. First time getting a cart key from starter. Pace was good. Fairways were in great shape. Greens were freshly sanded, hard to read.
Great old school course
Classic Parkland style course, lots of trees but OB rarely comes into play, gentle greens without undulation yet with subtle breaks. Good condition especially after the rains though the greens were slow and a little bumpy but very playable. Range and practice bunker are scraggly but the course is still one of my favorites in the greater Sacramento area, always an enjoyable round.. Good staff, regular guys.
Good shape considering weather
It has rained almost everyday for the past several weeks so the course condition showed that but still in above avg. condition considering. I like this course which allows some easy shots followed up with some challenges. Overall I would strongly recommend this course and intend to return soon.
Great Conditions and Rate
I got an incredible rate at arguably the best public course in Sacramento. The course is in amazing shape; props to the Supt and his ground crew.
Peter likes this golf course
The green was in very good condition even considering we had the winter storms. It was very well maintained and enjoyed the cloudy weather.
SLOW
Run tournaments every Thursday and Saturday that create 6 hour rounds for all others players. Nice course, nice staff, horrible 5 hour round to play 15.
Cigar Smokers
Everything would have been perfect this lovely fall day except for the billowing cigar smoke we had to tolerate from the twosome we were paired with. I am really tired of having to cough and get headaches due to this inconsiderate behavior on the golf course. Even after I said something to these jerks, they still never extinguished!
Why people don’t play golf. 9 holes in 3 hours?!?
Took 2 hours 50 min to play 9 holes. So we quit. This is not the type of course to spend 6 hours on. Maybe Pebble Beach, but not Ancil Hoffman. There was a marshal we stopped and complained about pace of play, but didn’t help. Won’t go back.
Would've been nice to play the whole 18.
Paid for what I thought was 18. Drove 45 minutes to get there, and the back 9 was closed. No advance notice given by GN. Salvaged it by keeping a good attitude, appreciating that the weather was great, and the overall appearance of the front 9. But playing the same 9 holes twice to make 18 isn't my idea of a good value. Nor is it incentive to drive that distance.
Great layout, tired greens
This layout can hold its own with any level player, and could hold any level of tournament in my opinion. It’s all about what tees you play from. From the tips, you have to be long & straight, as every hole is lined with mature trees. The greens are just tired from a season of heat & play, hence my tired title. They roll well though, and are quick. It’s an easy walking course as it’s completely flat, so old school, parkland golf. We shot 73 & 89 from the blues, and enjoyed our round.
Traditional Course in Great Shape
103 degrees and the fairways and greens were in great shape. Wide fairways, old growth trees, bunkers, and challenging greens on this oldie but goodie muni make it a fun and interesting round. EVERY staff member was friendly and helpful. Needed the beverage cart one more time on the back, but in fairness, there weren’t enough folks playing the scorching afternoon to warrant the route. Will return with friends - live 1.5 hrs away.
Hey golf now. I was a member and now I'm not. Never told my membership was over or if I could renew. Very dissappointed .
Nice course by American river
There are two bad things about this course, super slow play everytime I go and the price is always high for Sacramento. Marshall never comes and updates course time even when packed, and for 50 to 70 bucks just not a deal unless you get a discount. So a group of four old timers playing pretty slow in front and a group of kids hitting into us from behind doesn't help with my comfort zone.
Positives
Very nice setting, carts are great, USB chargers, ball washer, club washer very nice amenities.
Great traditional parkland course
Straight-ahead old school layout, it plays right in front of you with no gimmicks or houses to worry about yet wooded with plenty of trees that make it a challenge. Greens are very gentle with subtle breaks, no goofy roller coaster undulations, in good condition and speed is moderate-to-fast. The pace of play is often slow and the range is tired, but otherwise it is one of my favorite tracks in area.
