Best Public Course in Sacramento County
If you live within 60 min of Sacramento, go play Ancil Hoffman...well worth the trip. Especially the great deals of tee times from their website.
Still Very Nice
I have not played this course for 40+ years. This is a very mature course of moderate playing levels. Very friendly staff. It was busy but we did not feel pushed while playing at all. Very well managed by the marshal.
Pace of play-still a problem
Played 4 holes and quit. Too many groups backed up over the entire course. Marshall said a tournament earlier in the day held up play for the day. I was charged $8 for playing 4 holes. Staff at proshop was not friendly at all. I thought Ancil was working on pace of play, but not this Saturday afternoon. Will not return for some time. Bummer, because I like the challenge of Ancil and the many trees.
One of the best courses in Sac
Beautiful setting with true rolling fairways and greens! This course is challenging from the back tees with an array of doglegs with trees on both sides forcing you to keep it in the middle. One of my favorites!!
4th of July round
A little slow because of the holiday, but course conditions were fantastic for how warm it was. Some of the best greens I've ever played for a public course, again even with the heat nearing 100 degrees. You better hit it straight as it is a tree lined course. Score well here and you can score anywhere.
A Thursday round
The course was in nice shape. Greens have good speed. Some areas were dry but the course had them roped off and trying to repair them. Play a little slow, but finished in 4 1/2 hrs. A nice way to spend the day.
This course is not cookie cutter
It's a beautiful setting in a quiet park sanctuary. You can see wildlife throughout the park and on the course but they are not intrusive. The course can be challenging as there are lots of trees and bunkers to get in your way. You can't just get up to the tee and bomb a driver every time. You have to think smart to play this course and, if you do, it will reward you. The pace of play is excellent and I've played this course several times. On a weekend, you can get through in less than 4.5 hours.
Enjoyed our day at ancil hoffman
My group included a scratch golfer and three higher handicap players. The course was in great condition as they had just held a big amateur golf tournament the weekend before. Pace of play was excellent and all of us enjoyed the course.
Really Good
I never expected this goof course and good management.
I enjoyed it very much.
I will definitely come back.
Top Notch
One of my favorite courses in greater Sacramento. Ancil Hoffman has beautifully framed holes with mature trees lining the fairways. nice elevation changes on some tee boxes. Slopey fairways and greens. A true test of golf that will require every shot in the bag. Greens are small and undulating, only cons on this course is the lack of water on course and the fact that the cart will cost as much as the greens fee. It's a great and relatively flat walk so is quite enjoyable. Highly recommend
Great nature walk or ride, a nature lovers paradise
Well maintained course, greens are firm and roll fast. Every hole is lined with shade trees, makes for a cooler day of golf. Deer own the course.
Watch out for duck and goose droppings!
Fun time playing Ancil for the first time
Good course, nice older, mature course with lots of big oaks. Lots of wildlife. Course was in good shape. Busy Saturday but we moved right along during the day, easy course to walk. Weather was excellent.
Great Public course
Great course in great shape, greens were a bit bumpy but overall good. Played in 4 hours walking as there was no one in front of our walking foursome and no one caught up with us, so that was pleasant. A little pricey ($41) to walk, but worth it on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Spring round
Course is in great shape. Challenging greens and as always stay in the short grass. The trees are more than a challenge
fun and friendly
The guy in the pro shop was very nice and seemed genuinely interested in the players enjoyment of the facility. He thanked everyone for coming and invited them to return soon. Being in the hospitality business, I found this a refreshing change from the disinterested young men behind many counters at pro shops in our area.
The beverage cart young woman was quite nice as well.
The course was in good shape and fun to play. I love walking this course and I like the fact that many people walk. I often play as a single and it is great to be paired up with others that enjoy walking.
Great challenge!
Course was in great shape and greens were rolling true. Great course to walk!
Avoid the Trees
The course was in outstanding conditions 3/8/15 greens rolled true, fairways were plush and the *#^! trees were rock hard and unforgiving. Bottom don't attempt to take on the trees, if you find your ball in the midst of them, take the simplest and safest path back to the fairway!!
Tight Tree Lined Fairways
Good track, well maintained. most of the greens putt true. You really want to hit the fairways here. If you dont you'll be hitting under and around huge unkempt oaks all day.
