NICE COURSE
The course if very nice. Lots of trees along the fairways so if you hit off it's difficult to get back into the fairway. Lots of patches of dry ground, marked as found under repair so they were working on them. Lots of wildlife, turkeys, deer, and other small animals as well.
Needs TLC
I'm a regular player at Ancil, but I must say the course condition is the worst I've ever seen it. Fairways have multiple dirt patches throughout. Greens were in decent condition, but rolling slow and in need of a little TLC here and there. You may want to consider another course if you enjoy hitting your balls off of grass!
Brown Fairways
Summer took a toll on fairway conditions cause they were mostly brown with a lot of circled out patches. Greens were descent.
Worst shape ever
I love this course & believe it to be one of Sacto's finest, so, I usually can count on greens being excellent & fairways good- NOT NOW- it is horrible, greens are a joke & fairway a pasture
Very forgiving course
Ancil Hoffman is one of my favorite local courses. It has wide open fairways so you can tee her high and let her fly. The course has always ben in good shape if not great shape. The staff there are great people .I would recommend this course to anyone.
Excellent layout
Course experiencing some drought conditions and fairways were pretty sparse. Play was a little slow.
Staff was the worst I have ever seen!!!
My son and I checked in to the pro shop at 12:15 Sat Sept 6, 2014, he is 14 yrs old. I asked the man at the front desk how much it was for a Jr and he said $15 dollars. I was paying for the round when he told me it was another $17 dollars for him to ride. At that time I said he would walk because that was ridiculous... After we went down and got a cart my son put his bag in my cart and grabbed a sandwich and a drink at the resteraunt and said he was going to eat lunch and would skip the first hole. As I was teeing off one of the staff came up to us and said he was not allowed to sit in the cart because he did not pay for the right to sit in the golf cart and he was relaying the message from the pro shop. I then told him that after he was done with his lunch he would grab his clubs and start his round. Thats when we started getting harassed. We then had another staff member ask us to please not let him sit in the cart while he ate his lunch which led to words from me and our other players at our displeasure by what they were doing. My 14 year old son then asked why they were harrassing us and I said I didnt know. After I hit my tee shot at the first hole and went to my ball the main man from the pro shop came up to us and asked us to either remove my son from the cart or he would call the Park Ranger out on the course and they would remove us from the course. I again said my son was eating his lunch and was not even playing yet and he again threatened us to remove the bags and my son or we would be arrested by a park ranger. My son wrapped up his sandwich and got out of the cart. My son then started his round from the second hole. From that point on we had a golf marshall watch us at every hole to see if he got into the cart. I would never recommend this course to anyone but stay tuned because this is not over yet. We have filed a harassment complaint and have witnesses to back this up. This was the worst golf round of my 35 years in golf!!!
Beautiful course
This course offers great challenges and is set in beautiful surroundings.
hoffman
The course nice with plenty of dog legs and fairly narrow fairways. Very little elevation changes but still a challenging course none the less. Great course for the money.
Best Muni in Sac, but getting very dry...
This place, and Sacramento, need water badly. The course is in such dry condition and there are huge patches of barren soil all over. It's fine if you want to hit driver and see the ball roll out on the baked out turf, but hitting approaches is a different animal. Winter can't come soon enough for this course and the entire area. Other than that, this place will always be my favorite.
Ancil Review
Amazing course for the price. Couple dead patches, but that's always expected. I would recommend it and would definitely play here again. Facilities are great.
Good value
The condition overall was good and the course was very pleasing to the eye, the greens were a little slower however the ran true and were smooth. Overall. A good test of golf and pleasant place to play
Fairways were good
Really try to stay on the fairway if you get in the trees it's sometimes hard to get out.
The greens were not in great shape. They were inconsistant and one or two were really patchy. Ball bounced around a lot.
pace of play? no way!
I play this course every week, yesterday it took us almost 3 hrs to get through the front 9. Never saw a marshal? We end up leaving after 9, when I called the pro shop the attitude was oh well...
Not sorry... not let us give you a rain check for 9..
Nothing... very disappointed!
Grat staff
Course in good shape considering drought. The girls in the restaurant and beverage cart make it worth while
slow play
Tee-off areas and most greens were very good.
The main problem was the group in front of us were very slow. We had to wait on every hole 1-9. They got 1 1/2 to 2 holes behind the group in front of them. A golf marshall said he talked to them early on but nothing was done after that. At #8 we asked them if we could go ahead. At nine they let us hit up after they were on the green and then pass them on #10. The back nine went very quickly as we did not get held up by any slow play. We did not have to wait again until #17 when we caught up to the next group.
Very tight course
First time played this course as an out-of-town player. The starter could not get straight whom should I pair with and at what time. After checked few time with the starter, I got off on-time. Course is in good condition, and pace of play was good for playing on Sunday. I really enjoyed the round. The course is very narrow, and you need to put your tee shot at right spot.
Another round in nature
Still one of my local favs, trees everywhere, nature life always present, no houses, like being in a park but up are playing golf. It u get under the trees not as much fun, so hit it straight and pic the right tees. Don't be fooled by the short yardage.
This course has a variety of features
The course is fairly open, but will throw a tree or two in the fairway as a challenge. Use of a 3 wood off the tee comes in handy especially on some of the dog leg fairways
Played July 31, 2014
Greens - excellent --- fairways and tees - good but thinning some due to lack of water I assume
I'm really troubled to hear about this treatment you received. We work hard to keep our service above average. Please message me when you can so we can figure out what happened and ensure a better experience for you in the future.
