Bare fairways, pocked greens, patchy kikuyu fringe, pricey and slow play.
Course is in terrible shape, fairways have no definition with many, many bare spots with weeds mixed in. The rough is just about the same with probably less grass and more bare dirt spots. Zero bunker maintenance so expect bare clay bottoms with unraked wet-ish sand on the edges. The greens are ok but with unfortunate ball marking, They have a real "only game in town so what are you going to do?" vibe. $59.00 riding WEEKDAY, Embarrassed to have a course like that in Irvine.
First maybe the last
We had limited time and San Joaquin was closest one that we could get.
I knew this is Town course but never expect to have such slow paces, we have seen couple of Ambassadors but don’t know what they do.
Because of first time, our score was ok. We should be able to shoot single and teens for us.
Course layout was ok but cart path was terrible. Cart path was far away from the Green and in line with approach shots
You get what you pay for.
I enjoyed the course layout. Some fun/interesting holes, with very few being just straightforward boring holes.
The greens were in surprisingly good condition. The fairways are not good in many areas, but I’ll take the greens being in good shape over the fairways/tee boxes. One of the par 3’s on the back nine was a temporary green, so we just skipped that one.
Pace of play was shockingly good. Moved right along after a little back up on the first holes.
It’s getting better
Used to be really slow and the course was in terrible shape that I had stopped playing here.
Played here twice now in the past two weeks - 4.5 hr pace and course in much better shape. However many fairways are still really bare and need restoring.
Seems to be getting better though.
Under maintenance
Many of the greens were punched, the ball bounced accrossed the greens. The fairways are unplayable; preferred lies are the norm here.
