About
Opened in 1929, Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana is Orange County's oldest public golf course. It is a challenging layout that has garnered a quite a following over the years. The course features wide fairways and large greens that offer ample room. There aren’t any water hazards a few strategically placed sand traps come into play and there are also mature trees lining the fairways. Golfers will get to practice a variety of different shots on this course. It is player-friendly enough for high-handicappers but there are still some challenges for low handicappers. The excellent condition of the greens and fairways are inviting no matter what your skill level. In addition to the golf course, Willowick also offers a grass driving range and three practice putting greens.

Simple, easy, decent course
The course is very easy, at a 68.4 rating for par 71. I like the fact that the fairways are pretty wide open, and on most holes even if you miss your drive pretty bad, you'll be able to find your ball and likely launch it over some trees. Course conditions are pretty average, and the layout it a little boring but there are some easy par 5's and drivable par 4s that make it fun. This course is good for building confidence in my opinion.

$51 not worth it
I'd pay $20 to play this course again but nothing more. Terrible maintenance. If you want to take a nap, hole 16 has mattresses laying by the green.

Greens and fairways were terrible
on the outsides of the course, it looked like homeless people made camps all around the perimeter of the course. Will not play there again

Dried out with terrible greens.
The greens are in horrible shape right now. The ball hops and bounces all over the place on every putt. There’s more dirt than grass on the course. I booked bc it was $25 to play 18. Next time, I’ll play a more expensive course.

Needs work
Willowick is a good test for an average or high handicap golfer. However because of the uncertainty of the possible closure the maintenance is below par. Cart paths are broken and in really bad shape. Greens have several different grasses on many of them and are patchy. And the fairways are not well maintained.
If you can overlook the flaws it is a reasonably priced course.

Course need work
Played 18 holes today, second round here in July.
I'm not impressed by the tee boxes and fairways. Both are in need of some TLC and some weed killer.
Greens are in decent shape with a few that need attention with invasive grass or weeds.
The course in general is unremarkable with holes that are all very similar. Down and back with a few doglegs.

Get what you pay for
The course was an average public course. The course had been over watered so the conditions around the tee and greens was very muddy. The pace of play was good and I finished the course in 3 hrs and 50 minutes.
