Willowick Golf Course
About
Opened in 1929, Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana is Orange County's oldest public golf course. It is a challenging layout that has garnered a quite a following over the years. The course features wide fairways and large greens that offer ample room. There aren’t any water hazards a few strategically placed sand traps come into play and there are also mature trees lining the fairways. Golfers will get to practice a variety of different shots on this course. It is player-friendly enough for high-handicappers but there are still some challenges for low handicappers. The excellent condition of the greens and fairways are inviting no matter what your skill level. In addition to the golf course, Willowick also offers a grass driving range and three practice putting greens.

Good Value
Nice course, nice layout, pace of play pretty good. Greens were in really nice shape. I would recommend it.
Terrible
Worst course I’ve ever played in OC. If they spent half the money they do on dye to make the course LOOK green on actual care, it wouldn’t be too bad. Tee boxes haven’t been cut in weeks, awful fairways, don’t even get me started on greens. Wish I was drunk for this round.
Fair conditions....
Fair Conditions....
Bumpy ride for bad backs....
Greens are Good, not great
Sand traps are like cement and I don't ever recall any sand being added.
BUT, you Can't beat what you get for the price...
Bought water from bathroom
We didn’t bring enough water wife went to snack bar closed went to bar he wanted 2.50 a bottle wife had 2$ . He said he would fill up cup for a dollar. He went to bathroom came out 1 min later ,she said is it good water , he said the best so I tried it and it was bad he filled it with toilet water f this place
Like this old course
Course was a bit boggy in place but overall it was in good condition. The greens were is great shape.
Great course
Pleasantly surprised by the great Par 5 holes and layout. There was work going on, and two guys with tractors came right through while we were playing, and started working.
Sometimes a bit confusing layout f r on hoke to hike, but we had a great time and will be back
A "Value" Course
While the fairways are not much better than a cow pasture, the greens were well-maintained. This is a "value" course: IF you can get on for $20 or less WITH a cart.
The pace-of-play is usually reasonable (4 ½ hour round). However, the day I played it was an extremely slow round (the slowest ever?).
I started out as a single. On hole #6 I had another golfer join me. By hole #12 we were a foursome! We had a good homogeneous group and the social banter helped pass the time on each tee box as we waited for foursome in front of us to clear the fairways & greens—they were quite slow and ‘deliberate’ players. The only good thing was that I shot a personally low-round.
Golfing with my son's
My 2 son's and I had a blast playing Willowick it's our favorite course. We live 5 minutes away really enjoy playing here.
Pass.
I have played Willowick many times. I’m done. This place is absolutely horrible shape. Every fairway is a dump. Gopher holes everywhere. Driving range is just a patch of dirt. Honestly, you can pretty much go anywhere and it’s an improvement. So many goofs out there with zero ediquite. Two groups ahead of us joined up on 13 to create a 7-some. The group also drove through the fairway and scooped up two of our groups balls. I’d rather not even play than play Willowick again. Seriously, save your money and go somewhere else.
Had fun
Just to give you a heads up. I still consider myself somewhat a beginner even though I’ve been playing for about four years. The course was fun and challenging at times. Don’t give me wrong this is not a state of the art golf facility. However considering it’s the oldest Golf Course in orange county it was fun and reasonable. I would definitely play it again. Pleasant surprise.
