Nice course for the money
Staff is great! Course is in decent shape some greens need help and some tee boxes are beat up but that is to be expected in the winter in FL. We don't get the amount of rain in the winter that we get in Spring and Summer.
Honestly, pretty rough course but great people
Thought about not leaving any review because everyone was just so nice, but even taking into account that this is a city-owned public course, it's just in pretty rough shape. The greens on the front are just rolled pasture... generally they're puttable, but it's beyond "patchy"... the patchy parts are the good parts with grass. Back nine greens hit and miss but far better, I believe they are in the process of replacing greens? Big difference front to back. Course is very short, obviously you can see that from the scorecard, but there are a few 400+ par fours from the back tees. Teeing areas are very small, usually not more than 8 feet across, often sloped and several were really dug up. Other areas of the tee boxes not terrible, would suggest the course widens the teeing areas to spread out the pain a little bit. Many fairways a mix of sparse fairway grass, hardpan and weeds, although all were mowed. On one hole my playing partner was excited to find that his drive found a little one square foot patch of green grass out of a wide area of whatever that was. I don't know if they have working sprinklers or if there are water restrictions they have to follow as a city course that other courses don't, but we were surprised. Bunkers were actually great throughout the course, and unfortunately I got to know quite a few of them. Basically it's a one star course with five star people.
Rough
Staff was friendly, grill was nice with good food & prices. Golf course not so much. Tee boxes chewed up pretty good. Fairways pretty bare. Sand was good bits lots of traps & lots of traps directly in front of a lot of 5he greens. Greens rolled pretty good by were hard as a rock, you can’t fly a ball into the green it will roll over. A few long Carrie’s over water also.
The Babe
Babe was not in the great of condition. Fairways left a lot to be desired as there were loads of bald spots and bad spots all over the fairway. Where is the grass??? Greens were okay but tons of non repaired ball marks....Sand traps were not raked....Was in great condition after the hurricanes but it seems that the course went down hill afterwards.....
We like this course
Beautiful day, but fairways were't always fairways – just that time of year. Greens slick as they can be. Be gentle! We like this course and play it often.
Welcoming layout
Good price on a straightforward layout that was a good entry back to golf after a lengthy layoff.
Update
Golfed here last year and course was in pretty good condition. This year the course is rough, not sure if due to the hurricanes this year. Great 19th hole, very clean and great drink and food menu for a quick bite.
Babe's doing well
A nice round of golf today with some cool new friends. Course is FUN to play and you have to make shots here to score. Keep up the good work!!
1st time since the greens renovation
Always like the Babe, not necessarily a destination course but fun to play. Greens were really quick on a very windy day. Greens were great, fairways were good, edges and under the trees were the Babe, .
Spent time in the renovated snack bar and lounge and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and service. Good day at the Babe.
The Babe has gone down
Course conditions have gone down dramatically since the last time I played it a couple of months ago. After the hurricanes it was in the best shape I had seen it in for years. Now it is in awful shape. The fairways are dirt ways with dead grass and dirt.
