Babe Zaharias Golf Course
About
Located just 20 minutes from downtown in the Forest Hills section of Tampa, Babe Zaharias Golf Course meanders through a tree-lined residential neighborhood. Fun Course
We play at BZ about every three months. It's a fun course with several tee choices. The fairways are challenging and need some help, but they are playable. I would recommend you give it a try.
Classic, great course, sprinklers were on mid day tho =/
Would've given it 5/5 as usual but we teed off at 1pm and literally all the sprinklers came on, including covering the tee boxes, mid fairways, and greens, during the first 30 min of our round. We had to wait at tee #2 for 10 min for them to stop, it soaked our cart and clubs, and when calling the clubhouse the girl admitted she should've started everyone on the 10th tee, but said there was nothing she could do about it now. Never have I ever had that happen mid day during a round. Truly annoying, but whatever. Course was still playable and it gave ur a little water park feel, lol.
Pace was great , back nine was close due to seeding
Like an old friend.
Playing The Babe is like seeing an old friend that you haven't seen in a while. You pretty much know what to expect. A fresh haircut, a smile, and an untucked shirt.
There's nothing tricked up about this course. It's pretty straight forward with just enough dog legs and elevated greens to keep it interesting. The greens rolled really well in spite of a few weeds here and there. Not bad enough to even mention really. Fairways all had grass on them except for a few spots, again not a big deal. For the money I think it's an enjoyable 4 hours spent with friends and a good value. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They were doing all of the Corona protocol and I felt safe there. I had forgotten my golf GPS in the cart and when I called them about it they said that they had it in the pro shop for me. I turned around and went back to get it and thanked them. That impressed me. The only negative was the brakes on 2 of our carts wouldn't lock. They would stop you but you had to be careful how you parked or your cart would roll a little. Still not a deal breaker. Four solid stars.
Good course for the money
I got a hot deal thru Teeoff.com. $22 I believe. I had not played there since I graduated from University of Tampa in 1990. It was more of a nostalgia round for me. Played solo so pace was awesome. Met shop manager very nice lady. A great place to relax and enjoy your day. Rough was a little thick, greens were very good. Bunkers well maintained. 2 tricky holes on the back. Number 5 on front, blind shot, hit into water..ugh. Would play it again.
Great course
The pace is always great. We Always enjoy playing this Course. The pace is always good. The greens are turning out good after aeration a few weeks ago. I would recommend this Course to everyone.
Love this Course
I love the Course, pace was great. The greens were just aerated, other than that the Course was in great shape.
Remodeling club house
The clubhouse is being remodeled. Which it needed. About the course, tee boxes need a lot of work. Sparse grass on tee boxes. Fairways were thin but playable. Greens were slightly above mediocre. Staff is very friendly and pace of play was fine. I see this course as improving as time goes on. Nice community course.
Terrible conditions
Was not advised in advance they had aerified the greens the day before. Then as we made the turn we were advised we had to play the front a second time. VERY poor customer service.
Nice for price
The staff was friendly and they were very cooperative with the Covid Guidelines. Course played with an above average pace for FL. Only downfall was the clubhouse renovations are still ongoing.
No change in 35 years
When I was a young teen, my friends and I would walk this course (too young for carts). It was in poor condition, but you could walk and play and have a good time for less than $10 (food included). This was back in the early to mid 1980's. Played there on Friday at the urging of a friend. It hasn't changed a bit except for the price. The entire course was in very poor condition. For the price, highly disappointed.
