About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Distractions
Lots to get distracted with at this course as it is near the airport and a few holes run along busy streets.
Course conditions were average.
Putting was very challenging as the ball would not stay on line and green conditions were sometimes in need of a bit more care.
Course is better each time I play
Today was the 3rd time in 3 weeks and the fairway grass is much better than before and the greens speed was a little slow but more than acceptable. I hope this trend continues
Rocky Point
Best greens I've seen so far this fall in the area. Run fast and true. It was slow and there was a slow 4some and some one learning in front of us and 3 separate singles behind us pushing . We finally got let thru on the back 9 and it was much more enjoyable.
To near to major roadswhen
When we played the four ball in front of us had loud music playing out of the buggy but the worst thing for me is there is a major road running along side some of the holes so close that a missed placed shot good be on the road
Greens good fairways ok
Green rolled at a good speed and the fairways lacked enough grass for good lies
Good golf
The coarse is good, I found the greens quick and true. The fairways were OKAY. Good value for the money

Course layout pretty average- with fairways very close so lots of balls coming at you from different holes.
Pace was ok
You pay for what you get - and it’s ok for a budget round

Last 4 holes were a bit slow because of a group of 5 ladies …

Great course, decent layout and just enough water to make it real interesting. I will play it again for sure.
