About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Golfer Reviews
Terrible day of Golf
We had a 3:10 tee time, however didn’t tee off until almost 3:30. It took us an hour and 15 min to play 4 holes. That is when we realize there was a group of 8 playing together 2 groups in front of us. After waiting on every tee tee box for 10-15 min we decided to skip 2 holes to get in front of the group of 8. We were smooth sailing from there.. or so we thought. As we made the turn onto the back 9 there was a group of 3 that was there to play nine holes and they let them go off the back because the front was still so backed up from the group of 8. We ended up gettting stuck behind them and only got to play 14 holes in total because it got dark. Just not a fun round at all.
Always consistent
Overall course was in good shape, no specific complaints. I got a bit of flack from one of the guys handling the carts as I wanted to swap it out due to the brakes being non-existent. He looked at me like I was a fool, stating that "all of their carts are like that". They aren't, I swapped and all was well.
A single went out in-between groups which slowed things down at 1230 on a Sunday. We let him play through, then waited a lot between holes as the group ahead did not let him play through.
I play here frequently and would love to see some more marshalling taking place. But other than that, no complaints.
First time
Flat, of course, it's Florida.... Many ponds, but are lateral, so if you straight, you'll be OK.
Greens were incredibly Fast. Had a tough time reading them.
Electric carts, always nice.
Plan on playing again.
Thursday morning
Group of 20 ahead of us. Would not let us through, waited with last foresome on last 9 holes. One player it's their usual group every Thurs at 10 am. Beware.
Mix of Forgiving layouts
This course is actually my "go-to" when I have time before a flight out of Tampa ( TPA) . From the club house to the Rental Car renter , its an 8 minutes. drive.
The course has a lot of fairways that are adjacent to other holes, so a wayward shoot is not lost and you can save it and manage a one-putt par. The 15th , 16th and 17th holes I feel are the most challenging and require shot placement if you are someone that grips and rips.
The fairways & greens were in good condition.. Maybe a few more divots that I would care for on the greens, The traps were dense compacted sand from a prior rain a few days before and maybe they should have been raked. Not a big real.
Good Value
Nice layout , fast greens, only downside is course condition .
Great price through Golf Pass
Overall good course in good condition. No real complaints other than the greens fees have gotten really too high over the last month. Booked a great rate through here. The savings help offset the 1/2 dozen balls that are now at the bottom of several of the ponds.
Worth an afternoon
We flew into Tampa Bat airport and after a 10 minute drive from car rental we checked in and were on the course using a Golf Now reservation. Great value and a great first round course to play when flying in from the mid-west tundra! We were surprised by the layout and the value. Don't pass this course up before you check into your first night in FL

I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course . Pro shops staff very accommodating. Would definitely play there again !
Real review
Course conditions are fair. Some spots need some work but that can be expected with any of the city courses. I was happy with the speed of the greens but they are difficult to read as you will find putts breaking the opposite direction. Overall, a good option if you can find a round under 30 dollars I would take advantage of the opportunity. Very fun layout that will keep you on your toes.
Terribly Slow Round
We have played Rocky Point many times before. The course is good value for the money. The layout is nice and the course condition is good. Greens are fast and roll nice and true. Unfortunately there is no Marshall on the course. We ended up behind 4 old men who were playing incredibly slow. There were holes near the end of our round that were backed up 4 groups of golfers waiting for this slow group. It made for a very frustrating day. Just as a note, we have not encountered this issue in the past at this course. They should have a Marshall out there though to avoid problems like this
Good time
Course in good shape, pace a little slow, cost a bit high…need to lower the price.
