After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Best of TSA Courses
Finally played Rocky Point after years of driving by it, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the course and it’s upkeep. Compared to Babe and Rogers Park, this is the gem of the Tampa municipal courses. Greens were in really nice shape for the amount of rain we’ve gotten over the last week. Fairways had some weeds throughout but were recently cut. Like every other course in the area, the rough can make a ball disappear even if you follow it to the ground. Course has a challenging mix of holes from the blue tees at 6200ish.
The only odd part was there is no starter, and we were instructed to just go if the other twosome wasn’t on the tee box. Course looked very crowded behind us by 10am. We started at 7:50 and played in just under 4 hours, which wasn’t fast, but wasn’t slow either. For a shorter course with high volume, they would benefit from having a starter space out groups better.
Will definitely go back to play again.
Great lil course
There are a few (6) shorter par 4’s on this course that make it a fun course to play
great place.
I really do love rocky point. Really its 4.5 stars the only reason I took a half star off is maybe the bunkers could use some work and there were a couple spots that could use some tLC, but overall it's great. Great layout, finished in 3.5hours. conditions
were overall great. Holes are challenging but fair. last 4 are a whopper. Make sure you get all your scoring done early. Come out here and play.
First Timer
Played the course read the reviews before deciding to play. I did not expect much so the bar was low from the start. Walk the course with a local played 9 the front. The price is a high for walking at 4pm on a Thursday, fairway was 3 out 10, the tee boxes 3 out 10 pace of play ok. Just happy to play a round of golf. Hey it’s a public course lower your bar and have fun and enjoy.
Good for price
Lots of rain hit the area the day before, and it surprisingly drained well. Pace was terrible, but that’s anywhere around here lately. I’d play it again, especially for the price. Staff is very friendly.
Extremely disappointed
When we arrived to Rocky Point, my girlfriend and I were extremely excited. That excitement was only built up even more by the great women in the pro-shop, and behind the bar. As we approached the first tee - 5 minutes early, there were three other groups on the tee box, with no starter. One of the groups, had a boombox blasting music. I’m an extremely easygoing golfer, but having someone playing extremely music wasn’t exactly great for focusing. The teeboxes were no different than hitting out of the rough and we’re totally filled with weeds and crabgrass, it was impossible to distinguish the fairway from the rough, and various patches of the fairway were filled with mounds of sand. The greens felt like office carpeting, and did not roll true.
The employees working inside are fantastic, and very sweet... but you come to a golf course to play golf, and I have never seen a course in worse shape.
Pace of play was horrible. Got through 6 holes in just over an hour and then hit a brick wall with slow groups. Started the back nine, holes 10,11,12 took us over an hour to play just three holes. No ranger to keep pace of play going. Sad because the course has a pretty decent layout.
Nice pace of play, just aerated and dry weather impacts
Nice holes, dry conditions and aeration made putting tough. Holes are well laid out with several dog legs to challenge the golfer. Wonderful to see native parrots on course.
Would not play again for that price
I wouldn't ever play this course again unless maybe it was around $20-25. The course was weeded and terrible condition. They act as if it is a higher end course and it just is not. Its a smaller course and tighter fairways at times. But the overall condition was extremely poor and I was extremely disappointed. With the prices they charge this course should be a lot nicer. This isnt even close. Also they didnt tell us there was a class at the driving range sold us balls. Supposed to be mats only but everything was extremely packed. They could have mentioned this prior. So we went to the grass to the side and another guy was trying to hit driver in the grass part. A guy comes up yelling and berating all of us as if we were stupid. I get it. But the way he went about things was unprofessional and inappropriate and that is one of the main reasons I wouldnt play again here. Even if the course was in better shape I would have been a little more reluctant to play there because of the lack of customer service and manner this gentlemen displayed himself. Fix your communication skills and your course if you want people to continue to play here. I see why the ratings are low now.
grass
normally on florida courses there are no grass in the fairway but here there were/was plenty of grass. greens were very firm and fast.
we loved the course
Do not pay for this
The pace of play here is the worst I’ve ever seen. There is no ranger watching whatsoever. It’s absurdly overpriced. I waited on the first tee 45 minutes past my tee time to tee off. Then, continued to wait another 15 minutes on each tee box afterwards for a grand total of a 6 hour and 4 minute round. It was absolutely brutal and ruined my only day off from work. The only reason I even finished the round was because I felt even more sick to my stomach giving them money they didn’t deserve at all. Minimum price for this garbage course shouldn’t be $33, it should be $10
