Rocky Point Golf Course

About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Good value
On the whole course was good although fairways were thin. My wife and I got coupled with 2 nice men. We never had to wait and played in less than 4 hrs.
Still recovering from Hurricane, but very playable
Tee's and Greens overseeded with Rye, good shape. Fairways still recovering from 3ft of flooded salt water from Hurricane.
Entire fleet of Golf carts was destroyed in hurricane, Brand New Club Car carts are in now.
Once the fairways are back growing solid grass, this Muni is worth the Trip!
Good outing with a friend
We had a great time. He was a novice so we were worried about piece of play, but there was a foursome in front of us. It worked out great. Place was good.
Fun golf
Good shape… slow play, but understandable.. always a fun round.
Beautiful day for golf!
The course is still experiencing some challenges brought on by hurricane damage. The greens are slower than most courses around here, so I had to be aggressive on putting. The narrow fairways on some holes made it somewhat challenging, and a few holes had me using my imagination to get to the green. I would love to come back for some more!
Rocky Point Close until hurricane repairs are done
Course was in terrible shape. I understand issues due to hurricane but not an enjoyable outing. Should close and get the course in condition
Thank You Santa
The pace of play was great. We never waited at all. The highlight of our day was Santa showing up in a Golf Cart and gave each of us a Christmas gift. A very nice gesture on the courses part and very much appreciated by my wife and I. Thank you Santa 🎅
Tampa Muni
Course was in acceptable shape.
The tee's had been overseeded recently, had not been mowed in a few days, so the overseed green was growing. Greens were decent speed, some cups had rough edges. For a Muni Course, and the price to play golf in Tampa rising, Rocky Point is a good deal. Pace of play, excellent.
Decent
Course was in good shape, greens had some blemishes; however, not too bad. Only real downfall is the new carts don’t have a windshield or rain cover for your clubs. Staff was very nice and accommodating.
