Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

The tee times were mismanaged by allowing single players to play between groups. They should pair up singles and speed up play. The pace was horrendous and we left after 13 holes and will never play there again.
Close to TPA airport
I play here mainly because its an 8-9 min drive to TPA Airport. So when I have a later flight , I book a round in the hopes of finishing 18 holes. ( 90 % of the time I finish 18 hoels)
The fairways and tee boxes are in okay shape, the greens are a bit better ( Slow rolling on this hot/humid sunny day) . I never tested the sand traps but they seemed to be fine and raked. The Pro Shop staff is accommodating and friendly .
Only the 10th hole next to the Driving Range can be hectic with lots of stray range-balls that require a little bit of effort to find your ball . Maybe use a different color golf ball here.
Good course with a discount
I don’t think the course would be worth paying full price. I got a half off discount on a hot deal and I would say it was well worth it. Not the longest course, but it is still pretty challenging. All the greens were well maintained but some of the grass around the greens was pretty patchy.
Fairway was full of weeds
Most cheap courses at least have a good fairway, this one didn’t. Overall horrible condition and want to charge anything more than $40 is absurd. One of, if not the worst courses I’ve played on in 5 years. Also to top it off one of the tractor drivers drove over my golf ball right in front of me as I drove to get my girlfriend’s ball that was 50 feet away. It was comical to say the least but I was appalled haha. Never playing here again
Average Course
It was my first time playing here. Not a bad course. I'm not sure if I will return.
All good but the tee boxes and rough
Greens and fairways were really good. The rough is my own fault but even there it would be helpful to have more grass. Tee boxes were more dirt than grass. That was the only disappointment. We had to wait for most tee shots but still played in just over 4 hours. Good time overall.
Solid course, solid price
Played today, course was nice. No real complaints for the price. Fast greens.
Good for Beginners
Wider course, greens good, but the rest of the grass is struggling (during a drought). Great place to learn for the price.
Pretty boring course
This was a pretty boring course almost every hole was pretty straightforward with a few dog legs little bit of water. I don’t know why it’s called “Rocky Point” as it is a very flat course. Visually nothing all that pleasant to look at like I said pretty flat course. It was very dry, greens were in pretty bad shape and it was very expensive for the shape that it was in. I will not be going back there to play again
