The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

Horrible shape
Looks like they aren't investing anything into this course including money, effort or time. Too bad, it's a nice lay out but like most college/university golf courses it's gone to the dogs (not the Bulls).
Better than expected
Not expensive course was in pretty good shape they seem to be doing some work on the tee boxes and one temporary green on one hole. But other than that nice fairways and greens and better than expected due to it storming all week leading to my round. Tough course definitely a challenge will be back for sure
Don’t waste your money
As alum, I’m extremely disappointed. The Bldgs are condemned. No pro shop, no restaurant. Greens were terrible. Not kept. Overgrown grass. Cart had bald tires, almost got stuck on hole 1. Don’t waste the money here, go spend the 30$ somewhere else. It’s sad.
First time
I thought I would give this course a try based on a friends recommendation. There is no pro shop it’s a storage pod. There is no club house. The cart house is all but fallen down. Multiple tee boxes are just dirt. Some of the fairways are flooded. I’d pick your own cart and the first one didn’t have enough power to get to the first tee. So sad, looks like it has potential.
Staff friendly/Course Bad
The pro shop attendant was extremely nice and accommodating. The course was not well maintained and some of the poorest condition I have ever seen on a course….see photo..
Thank you for David for your review. We apologize about the wet conditions of the golf course your last round. Due to Tropical Storm Elsa that came through last week there were precautions that SWFWMD had to take in order to prevent flooding to residents' homes. This causes the water to back up onto the holes that are closest to the Hillsborough River. The good news is that they have told us that it peaked on Monday and will be back to normal levels by Friday.
Poor conditions
We went through six carts between our foursome as they each died mid play. The course was flooded. Many tee boxes were just sand and rock.
It could be a good course as it is challenging. But the conditions have a lot to be desired.
Another course with no water to drink
One day pro shops will stop caring about making money on bottled water and put water out during a Florida summer since all covid restrictions have been lifted months ago
All traps were raked and course is in as good as condition as it has been
Love the layout of this course
It’s just usually in very good condition
But with the recent rain much more green than usual
Needs a complete makeover
It would appear that not one dollar in maintenance or upkeep. And no progress toward opening a snack bar or pro shop that this course is headed for closure. To resurrect this place would take millions and I don't see it coming.
Thomas Gorman
Fun course. There is a lot of dried out fairways and rough. Many of the fairways should be ground under repair especially around the greens. The clubhouse is a trailer which is surprising.
Club house is closed and looks like it will be tore down.
Everybody was nice and the carts were clean and in good shape over all it was good.
Thank you for your review. We are happy to see you enjoyed our course. We value your feedback, and hope to see you back in the future.
