The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

Similar Challenges Throughout Course, Good Greens, 14’s the Claw
Had fun playing today. Last time I’ve been to this course was when I graduated from USF and looks like they added some USF college style facilities and more plans to add even more USF college style facilities like the clubhouse is coming soon. Similar Challenges Throughout Course, Good Greens, 14’s the Claw.
The Claw
Greens were awesome, fast and the fairways were fairly good and the rough was sparse. If you was a challenging round, the claw will fill the bill.....
Course
Course was in good shape...staff was realky friendly...no real ammenities cuz the clubhouse is closed down...hard layout overal....good experience
Pay for what you get!
Greens were above average but the rest of the couse was DRY. Extremely DRY. Did I mention HARD AND DRY?
Has Seen Better Days
The Proshop is in a 12 foot trailer. Had to wait for a cart that was on a second round and didn't make it. Carts are very old. No snack bar, inside of building is completely closed down. The cart barn was about to fall down. The course was fair at best. You can't get cheap enough to make this place a good deal. Sorry folks but this place needs lots of improvements starting with professional management.
Terrible experience
Had to wait for a cart for over 30 minutes and a group of 3 guys were given a cart before me and played ahead of me when they had a later tee time than I did. Cart girl never came around. I will never play this course again. Pro shop was in a storage container. Very unprofessional
Thank you so much for coming out to The Claw an playing this past weekend. We are extremely disappointed that you didn't have a good experience. We would love to talk to you about this further. Please email me at jsparrow@theclawatusfgolf.com with your best contact information so we can discuss this further.

Solid course. Not great. Not bad.
For $35 it’s not bad. Course is difficult with lots of tough tee shots, doglegs and trouble off the fairway. Fairways are in decent condition. Miss the fairway or green and you’ll likely be in a crappy lie with dirt and roots. Pace of play is fine early in the morning but after 9am you’ll likely be backed up and be playing a slow 4-5 hr round
Go USF!!
Love this place. Don’t care what people say about the tuff or under the oak trees about little to no grass, don’t hit the ball there and if you do you have to pay the price!! Most of the greens that were in disparity are coming back nice! Greens always roll good, playing the back tees on a normal day is a challenge, on days that wind is heavy it’s a real challenge!! Love this layout more than I expected too as well! Love watching the college players practicing on the range and course! Love the fact a lot of students come out and play and have fun and they aren’t a lot of stuck up golfers on the course that run them off being rude to beginners and people having fun!
The Claw
Nice greens. They rolled pretty true. The course was in good shape but the tee-boxes are poor. For the price this is a good value.
Disappointing for a college course.
Nice greens, fairways okay, any where else very poor conditions. Did enjoy layout.
Death of a golf corse
Returned to the Claw after roughy 5 years. Amazed to find it total falling apart. Club house, restaurant, pro shop shut, staff working out of a shipping pod. Coarse in terrible shape, although did see workers.
Staff said things are in flux, improvements on the way. I understand that COVID hurt everyone & colleges are money starved, but. I think if the university pres played golf it wouldn’t be in such shape. It was & could be a draw, valuable piece of property. Hope it works out, I’ll wait till next year to try it again.
Love it!!
I haven’t played a course in 7 yrs, and this was perfect. Started to get my rhythm on the back nine. I can’t wait to play it again.
Thank you
Great course
My first time playing in 7 years.. Felt great to play again and the staff was great, especially Hunter
