The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

4 hours for 9 holes
This is the second time I have played here. The first hole always has 3+ groups at it. The first time it took around 5 hours to complete all 18, the last time it took 4 hours to complete the front 9. There was at least 2-4 carts teeing off at each hole. Staff never tried to fix the situation or let people play through. I love USF but the course needs to be better monitored and not have tee times booked 7 minutes apart.
Best find in Tampa area. Best fairways,
Our golfnow people introduced us to the CLAW. We are glad we made the trip. The greens had just been treated, but they were very puttable.,
First time at the Claw
First time to play the Claw and enjoyed the layout. Anxious to play it again, as the holes with the stream may be played differently now that we know the layout.
I'd play it again.
We had an early morning start and were not pushed or wating. Amenities are basic but adequate. Greens were fast but honest. Some fairways are tight and curving, others require planning. Back nine has some isolated and challenging holes.
Good balance of sand and water hazards. Great value.
Good value for the money
We were a little bit surprise that out of the fairways, the rough turns into dirt. It was our first experience of the season and as a training camp this course was perfect for us. Some fairways are pretty tight, we needed to make some club decision as it wasn't all about grip and rip. Greens were tough are pretty fast which is a thing we are not used to. Overall a good experience, would definitely return next season.
Affordable round
This course is recommended to players who are looking for an affordable round. I enjoyed the price.
Pace of play was super slow. Waited ten minutes on every hole before teeing off. They shouldn't allow walk on's!

The whole course is one big photo op. Loved playing there.
Fairways could have been mowed a little but the greens were fast and in good condition. Will be back soon.
Naturalistic Florida feel to this course.
Despite the lack of a starter, pace of play was good. Greens were in good condition, fast but true. Alligators, sandhill cranes, lakes and wooded areas gave the course an old world, Florida ambience. Will definitely play there again!
The course and facilities need alot of maintenance work!
The conditions of the facilities are disappointing for a major state university property.
My Home Course.....
I love playing this course now as much as I did when I started playing golf. Still haven't beaten this course as many times I have played it. It will always be my home course!
Long Day
No starter. When our tee time arrived there were 4 groups on the tee. Pace of play was slow for most of game.At Hole #7 a ranger brought out a foursome and placed them in front of the group in front of us. This made 4 people happy and disgruntled 12 others?????. Overall the course is great to play
Great course for a fun time. [including the alligator on 14]
course was excellent for winter season. Am accustomed to more grass in the fairways greens were nicely kept, good speed on putts. Overall you put out a good value for the buck and look forward to playing your course again in the near future.
It a very nice course
It one of the best course I played in fl .And it hard narow fariway beutiful greens and fast. Everyting about the course is nice.It worth the money. They treat you well. clean you club .I will recoment this course to my friends
Great value, excellent greens and very challenging
For $30.00 bucks this is a tremendous value, although my foursome struggled we enjoyed this course a lot. Also saw several Gator's, lots of wildlife on the course!
Tight course. Need to shape shots.
This course is tight in places forcing you to pick your place for your next shot. Greens were in good shape with some filled areas. They were cut close and fast. The fairways were in good shape. The price was a little high for this course but deals can be found on line. All in all it was a good day of golf.
Cost was $24 pp. That's what you get. I expected better conditions, especially being the college home course.

Tight -Tight -Tight
Nice course with plenty of water and lots of wildlife. Fairways are tight, but if you keep it in play you do have a chance to score well. I used a 3 or 5 wood on several tee shots to just keep the ball on the fairways, which is a must on the singiture hole #14 The Claw. The course will test you and there are a few holes with hidden water that cross the fairways, which are reachable with the driver. The greens were quick, but rolled true. I would play this course again.
Love this course, some great holes
Always fun, greens were good, a very good value for the money
Nice start to a golf trip
This was our first course on our trip to Tampa. We got a great deal, so expectations were low. The course was extremely crowded, we partnered up with another twosome and that made the timing better. There was no ranger and several times as we were waiting, the ladies behind us hit into us including on a par 3!
The course was in decent shape and there were a couple of challenging holes.
