Some things never change

Knollwood is a great values for the money. The staff is friendly and the course is in good condition.

The only issue I have is they run a lot of five somes so pace of play can be slow even during the week. Expect a 4.5-5 Hour Round. Not good if u r in a hurry, but who should b in a hurry.

Great pace

The course was above average. Had to play conservative because of narrowness of course. The hills however made a poor shot into a playable one, as it brought my ball down, sometimes down the fairway. I don't know what was happening on the 10th fairway but they should have warned us that construction was going on. Otherwise the course was good. Start at 3:05 and finished before 7:15.

Twilight budget

Played twilight on 6/21 & 6/22 at $19.94 (after 4 PM) and $24.95 (after 3PM). I did play this course several years back so didn't really have a good memory of the course from the first play.

Checkin process was painless. Walk up single - got paired up with some good locals to make the game fun.

The course: The opening hole is an eye opener at #1 handicap. But, the rest of the course is pretty tame with reachable par 5s and couple of short par 3s. The course was shaped like a resort course with sides all draining back to the fairway. The course featured mild elevation change just to keep thing interesting enough. The greens were in good condition considering the public traffic - better than most. There are no water hazards so bombs on away.

The pace: AWFUL! on the first day, we got stuck behind the local men's club. They played poorly and took forever to play. Typical - park the cart 30 yards away from the ball, walk up to the ball to assess, go back and get a club, dribble the shot, walk back to the cart. All while the buddy sits and watches and repeat as he then plays his shot. Good thing they only played 9 holes. Back nine opened up and went in 1 hr 45 min. Yesterday was worse. Started at 3:30 PM and didn't finish until 8:45 PM.

Overall, I was hoping for a faster round since it was a mid week twilight. But, I was mentally prepared for a slow round so I wasn't bothered as much. I enjoyed the course layout tremendously. The course condition was in above average shape (green fairways, mild undulating greens, good bunker sand).

btw, if you lose a club, don't expect to see it ever. Typical of public course I suppose

Ridiculous 6 hour round

The overall rating should be better but the amount of time to play it makes it impossible to give a better rating. This is the closest course to my house but I can't play it because it's ALWAYS a 5 1/2 - 6 hour round. They just simply allow too many players on the course. It's not the players that are the problem. It's management greed wanting to squeeze every dime they can get but it makes it so most people quit after the front 9 takes 3 hours to play. It makes NO difference what day, what time or what circumstances it should never take more than 4 - 4 1/2 hours for a round especially in Los Angeles where it never rains!

Knollwood

Played the Blues (6385/70.8/124) in slightly less than 4H as a 2some with RGM2525 on a GN "Hot Deal" for less than $14 w cart. The weather was around 70, fairly calm and very overcast. We played through one 2some and only started waiting the last few holes on a surprisingly fast paced Monday afternoon round.

My 1st time here in almost 8 years. They have cut down some trees and either added or removed some fairway traps since I last played here. Completely changes the way #10 plays w/o a thick forest just left of the narrow fairway.

Overall, the course was in decent condition, very playable.

The tees were a mixed bag. A few were good to very good, a few were poor, most were mediocre. The Kikuyu was mowed close and it looked like the tee markers had been regularly rotated.

The Kikuyu fairways were average. More thin than lush with decent coverage.

The Kikuyu rough was not tall and generally had good coverage close to the fairway. The farther you got from the fairway, it was 50/50 whether you were going to be on hardpan or Kikuyu.

The sand traps could have been decent "but for" the golfers who frequent Knollwood thinking that the rakes beside the traps are mere ornaments. The sand was decent, just WAY too many footprints unraked in these traps.

The greens were the hi-light of the course, VERY good. Soft, they held approach shots very well. They putted medium speed and were pretty smooth.

Not a bad layout, tighter than most, it has many fun holes. However, the combination of American Golf & their 5somes plus many other better layouts closer to my home make me an infrequent visitor to Knollwood. Recommended if you can get a deal.

Knollwood review

Having played several times before I pretty much know the course . The course was in good condition and the greens were excellent. Fairways were typical, and the pace of play was also typical for Knollwood, a little slow, this is to be expected at this course. Overall it was a good day on the course.

Nice Track

Nice course layout. Fairways are lined with trees by roomy enough for a good tee shot. Very good par fives on this 6300 yard course from blue tees. Not much water but traps placed in key locations. Dog legs very nice. A few par 4's are short enough to have a short wedge in. A few par 4's are monsters like #1. Greens in good condition but not fast. Stump around 8. Overall I enjoyed this course. Afterwards I enjoyed there club house bar a diner style restaurant. Not fancy and the price is right.

Welcome to Slowwood

I have played this course several times and the course itself is very nice, it's just the pace of play. They allow groups of 5 and apparently the asian community takes full advantage of that. I'm not racist in any way, shape or form, but go to Slowwood on any given day and you will know exactly what I mean. Great course for the price, just be prepared to be out there for at least 5-6 hours.

Nice course, severely overcrowded

Knollwood is a modestly challenging course with nice green fairways, a plus in SoCal, but is very crowded on the weekends, without enough carts to keep up. My GolfNow time was not processed as a single player (staff at Knollwood says that is normal for them, but I've never had the problem at other courses) and a 5 hour round (normal for weekends in LA) took 6.5 hours. Bring a sleeping bag if you want to play here on weekends...

Augusta-fied

So.... Knollwood is undergoing water-conservation re-design, and it's for the best! The place now looks like Augusta National, if you will, in a way, as the edges of the hole layouts has been stripped of turf under the trees and therefore now has the look of Augusta with the wood chips and pine needles. If you thought the course played narrow before, it plays even narrower now, as driving the ball is even more important as a sprayed shot that used to be on grass in the deeper rough under the trees is now going to be on dirt, wood chips and pine needles. But the great thing about the renewed layout is the way it looks - the layout of the holes is much more defined and artistic looking, the fairways are still pretty generous and there is plenty of rough to boot, to catch slightly off line balls without bouncing through and all the way to the new wood chip edges! The course is in very good shape on most holes with lush fairways and rough, just a couple holes a bit thin or hard-caked, such as the 10th fairway. But the whole place looks awesome with this new look! Thank you to the greenskeeper for leaving a decent amounts of rough down the sides of the fairways in good strips, the whole course now really looks like it snakes through the hills! The greens weren't at their best today for some reason, but I guess it's that time of year of seasonal change and probably needs punching. The bunkers have new white, fluffy sand, which is a challenge now, as it is easy to dig down in there if you're not careful.
But teeing off just after noon and getting done in about 4 hours is a record for me here today! I wonder why it was so not busy? We said may be it's because people heard about the possibility of thunder or may be even rain, and didn't book the place, or may be people now think it's too difficult with the wood chip layout? What rain? It was a bit humid, sure, but there was steady breeze today too and the place felt great, played great. Totally recommend this place now. A great walk too, just right with the hills but not too taxing. Oh and they put some nicer balls at the range too, because they used to have really awful balls before. And the landing areas on the range is all grass too, which is great.

The course has nice feature and challengeable.

I played first tee time at 5:08am at that time.
Out course I spent 1hour and 40 minutes. I was really happy for a moment but when I tried to start rest of 9 holes I mean In course, lots of players was waiting to play. I asked one of player "what happened? " He said to me. " lots of players joined to play back nine."
Oh my god!!! I played back nine for almost 4 hours to finish.
This was really upset and stressed. I dont want to go anymore in the future.

What a Local Gem

I'm afraid to write the glowing review this course deserves, for fear that other golfers searching for a great local course at a fair price will flock to it, and tee times will disappear:-)
Excellent fair greens, challenging holes that are not too daunting, "relief" holes that help you improve your score or get your confidence back, and a quiet, beautiful setting make this an excellent course. The Pro Shop staff and Starters are friendly, helpful and accommodating. The price is great.
Pace of play was just shy of 4:40 for a 2 behind a 5 behind a 4. During the week, that's a bit slow.
But that's really the only spot on this pristine place.
It's now in my Top 3 Local Favorite Places to Play.
Easy to find, easy to park, too.

Course recommendation

It's an awesome course and challenging, but Knollwood is known for its slow pace of play. Give yourself 5 1/2-6 hrs to play it.
They are going through u renovations by the pro shop and it looks as if they are trying to come serve on water by taking somehow as out and laying diet which will make the course tighter
