Desert Canyon Golf Club
About
Nestled within Fountain Hills, the course at the Desert Canyon Golf Club offers a championship course with a variety of elevation changes with views canyon and mountain views. It is a desert-style course with some elevated tees and open fairways that play tight with a few doglegs. Water bunkers come into play on a few holes as well as numerous well-positioned sand bunkers. From nearly every hole on the golf course, views of the signature fountain in Fountain Hills, which is the world's tallest fountain at 550 feet, can be seen.

Great course
Great value. Great layout. A must to play.
Enjoyed our first time playing this course.
My son and I decided to give this course a try on Wednesday, July 27th, my son's 22nd birthday. I found a smoking deal on golfnow.com and it was only $30 for both of us. Granted it was July 27th and the tee time was 10:30am. Thankfully, there were plenty of shady areas, so I think this course is a good one to play in the middle of a Phoenix summer. It seemed breezier too, probably because of the hilly terrain.
The course was pretty empty when we teed off. I think we spotted another twosome and a single out there toughing it out. The course was in good shape considering how dry this summer has been. It was well groomed and the greens were nice and smooth.
Nothing to complain about at all.
I love the elevation changes, something that's rare in the valley courses.
Maybe it's because I played so well, I really enjoyed my time playing. I birdied 3 holes on the back 9 and then eagled the 18 hole, which was a big fat cherry on the day. Felt kinda bad beating my son on his birthday, but hey, when the golf gods smile on you, you don't complain.
Afterwards we went to the clubhouse for some food and beers. Ordered a couple delicious German beers on tap (can't remember the name) and perused the menu.
To my surprise, everything on the menu was $5.00! I ordered the hamburger (bacon and cheese was another $2) and my son ordered the chicken tacos. Both were really good tasting and with the ice cold beer, they really hit the spot.
So, all in all, I'd say this is a course I look forward to playing again. I want to hit it up in the fall, before the rates go back up again, but I think I'll bring a friend here before the summer ends.
Thanks and cheers!
Interesting course.
Fun course with variety of holes which makes it interesting. Lots of elevation changes.
Poor greens
The course was in great shape for the middle of the summer. However the greens need to match the rest of the course. Greens were in bad shape!!
Fun day with my son
As a Head Professional here in the valley I really understand the challenges this time of year in Arizona. I can truthfully not think of anything to make the experience more enjoyable considering it was over 100 degrees out on the course. They had punched their green two days before we got there and other than a little sand on the greens they putted quit well. The staff was awesome, fairways are perfect and we had a very enjoyable round of golf. Hats off to all the staff at Desert Canyon. Thank you Jason for a great experience.

My favorite course
I'm a 28 year old male who's been golfing since I've been 12... But I am not some kind of professional, I have my days I hit high 90s and then I have my days where I'm trying to break 80. Inconsistency at it's finest.
I love Desert Canyon because the front 9 and back 9 give you equally challenging holes. Some holes are wide open on front 9, but then back 9 are narrow as an arrow. Some short and some super long. I play from blues. It's a fun course if you PLAY SMART! GPS in the carts like a TPC course, bag of range balls on grass range for practice prior to round, etc.. Only thing that could be better is the clubhouse only allows you a hot dog instead of full menu at the turn. I love playing here in the summer because it's far enough away that it's not a super crowded course.
Good course for the price
Definitely worth $25 (in June)
Nice desert course
must see and play
Nice track enjoyed had good time. We will definitely
be back
A desert gem!!
Came out on vacation and booked it between flights as it was fairly close to where I was staying. I was NOT disappointed... Great layout, a good mix of precision and length to go along with very fast greens. Some of the pins were diabolical to say the least..Staff was friendly and we got out on time. Conditions were very good, and the scenery was gorgeous as we played until dusk. I would definitely return here, good value for what you get in return. On my "play list" in the Fall!
A little of everything
I've golfed Desert Canyon with my wife every Spring for 15 years. We've always enjoyed the layout and not-too-difficult play. My handicap is around 18 and this course ensures that I will make or beat it most often. This year however, something has changed. The greens have been made much tougher. Usually, that would be a welcome development. I have always enjoyed courses with faster and more challenging greens. The Desert Canyon greens are now FASTER! If you are a high handicapper like myself and don't have the ability to REALLY spin the ball, don't expect to be on the green with your usual approach. And once on, expect to see an above average 3 putt on your card.
Short Course
First time playing Deseret Canyon, course was in fairly good shape for this time of the year. Greens were recently sanded. Pace of play was extremely fast, driving range was a bit average and beat up. I played from the whites and the course played extremely short, there were some par 5's I thought were par 4's because I was approaching with a gap wedge in 2. Many of the Par 4's were drivable from the tee.
Good Course
Desert Canyon is a challenging course even though the slope rating suggests different.
Uneven lies, hazards, fast greens, & false fronts on greens forces concentration to keep your game in check. However, the pro at the check in could learn to be a little more customer friendly & not he so rude.
Nice mature course
It was a fun course. Short but scenic and challenging. Greens in great shape
One of the best courses in the Area!!
Very picturesque and a great layout! Loved it!
Course Okay/Pro-Shop Like a Bad Garage Sale with a Rude Dude at the Register
First, I want to say that this was a relatively random course selection for me on GolfNow. I hadn't done much research and went ahead and scheduled the round for my family (wife + 2 junior golfers). We got to the course early. They were far from busy. I asked the guy in the pro-shop if he had any openings earlier in the day. He bumped us 30 minutes up. He acted like I was asking for a loan or something. The pro-shop is small, random, and unimpressive. We had plenty of time to hit the range and have some lunch. We were informed that range balls were included with the green fees. I was handed the smallest bucket of balls in the history of buckets of balls. I would estimate around 18 balls. The practice green was so small that I couldn't help but think about the practice green at Dick's Sporting goods. After a labored 20 minutes, we headed in for lunch. The restaurant was empty. The food was okay. The waitress was very nice and extremely attentive. I was stating to feel better.
We met the starter at the first tee. He was every bit as ridiculous as the pro-shop attendant. My 14 year old and I decided to play from the tips which was around 6,500. My son is an exceptional golfer. I could tell that the starter was not expecting this as he stood on the tee box watching our first shots. My wife and younger son played from the forward tees. He didn't wait 5 minutes before sending the next group. We were on the heals of the foursome in front of us all day. Everyone waited for no good reason.
The course is nice. It isn't spectacular but a decent course. I don't think I would recommend it to anyone I know. If you are looking for a course that is not too difficult and don't mind the lack of personality, common amenities, and are located within a reasonable distance, this is an adequate place to play. However with so many options, I would look around.
The comment left by dcgolfpro just plays right into what the reviewer was trying to paint a picture of. The problem was customer service and obviously this guy has an arrogant attitude as well. Some people may not care, but some individuals do. That comment makes your employees look like a bunch of chumps along with the reaction of the person that is suppose to mediate through this site.
We appreciate you enjoying our garage sale we had that day. When we look at reviews that our guests leave we hope for things that can be improved. Unfortunately I'm not finding anything in your review so we will continue business as usual.
FUN COURSE
Great Place to play 18 holes. Course is in excellent shape. Greens are amazing, and very fast!
Go somewhere else
With all the other choices, I won't be back to this one. It is very vertical, with many holes very up or down hill. Some holes feel gimmicky. Many better choices for similar price.
Fountain Hills Bargain
The course was in excellent condition, both the fairways and the greens, which rolled true and smooth. There were enough interesting and testing holes to encourage one to come back soon. There are also some excellent views of Fountain Hills.
In short, this course is well worth playing, particularly for the money.

We are glad you recommended our course but a 1 star doesn't really make sense. Our entire course is in great shape for the summer.
