Desert Canyon Golf Club
About
Nestled within Fountain Hills, the course at the Desert Canyon Golf Club offers a championship course with a variety of elevation changes with views canyon and mountain views. It is a desert-style course with some elevated tees and open fairways that play tight with a few doglegs. Water bunkers come into play on a few holes as well as numerous well-positioned sand bunkers. From nearly every hole on the golf course, views of the signature fountain in Fountain Hills, which is the world's tallest fountain at 550 feet, can be seen.

Review
Tee boxes still under construction. The course is in good shape otherwise. Still a good round if you don't mind playing shorter course
A little misleading....
Played 08/002/15. The site states that the tee boxes are under construction. However, the tee boxes on over half the holes are completely gone (with the exception of the forward boxes), forcing you to play from up front most holes. Occasionally you will come to a hole that has multiple tee boxes, but you are forced to play under 6k yards. This is not mentioned on golfnow.com or on the courses home page. It would have been nice to have known that. The greens are in decent condition.
Great course with substantial elevation changes
Overall course was in great shape, although they are rebuilding the tee boxes. Some were already done but some were out of use for total reworking. Greens and fairways were in very good condition. Views from many locations on the course were awesome. Would definitely play again.
Tee boxes under rebuild.
This was the only negative to my review but it's also a positive. The New tee boxes will be awesome. We had a 652 tt this am. 4some on 1st tee let us go ahead (we were a 2some). Thanked them and we were off. Course was excellent for this time of summer. Greens were in better shape than many of the $$$$ dollar coures we've played. We would've like to see a cart girl on the course but only water stations. ran up behind a 4some of ladies that also very graciously let us play thru. Under 3 hour round this am. Thanks, great time today.
Not impressed, but a "good value" for $10!
I didn't like the layout of the course overall and the fact they are re-doing teeing areas as extensively as they are really downgraded the quality of the course. At least 9 holes had all tees on one tee box (usually the ladies box) - so it made a short course even shorter. The situation was advised when I booked the tee time and the rate was adjusted - so no big issues there. The layout has too many houses (on both sides) and the holes seemed very much contrived to me. The course (fairways, etc.) was in fair condition and the greens were good, but it wasn't an enjoyable course to play for me, especially with so many other options in the area, but for $10 it was a good value.
They were aerating the first screen and The 18th fairway the sprinklers were stored on .
Overall very. Staff was very helpful. Definitely would recommend someone to play this course but the staff need to let the players know that they're doing maintenance on the greens and fairways before they pay .
Nice Course for the Money
Played in the heat at greatly reduced rate. Staff was very nice and helpful. Course not too difficult. Well laid out and maintained. Nice houses lining most fairways, more tightly packed on the front nine, more extravagant on the back. Lots of drinking water. Condition of cart was only fair.
Lots of Uphill Green Shots
This was a course I have been trying to play for a while now. Finally, I came across a hot deal and locked in a tee time. The course has a very interesting topography. Hilly is an understatement. The course is largely cut through a narrow canyon and the result is a lot of elevated tees and greens. The fairways were in excellent shape on the day I played as were the greens. A very nice clubhouse and conjoining lounge complete the experience The course is adorned with high-end homes which adds to the overall feel. A quality course.
Good for all skill levels
Played with my wife (a 30 hdcp) and we both enjoyed the course. Only reaso I did not give it 5 stars for condition is that they had aerated and sanded about a week earlier and the greens were running pretty slow and a little bumpy. By the middle of July they ought to be perfect. Very friendly people and after 10 AM very little play so we had the course pretty much to ourselves. Great layout winding through the arroyos and hills with easy, downhill starts on 1 and 10. Little in the way of forced carries so good for my wife but plenty of challenge if you want to take it on. You will enjoy it!
off season delight
Course in great shape in early July. Light play and an excellent value.
Nice course to play
The course was in good condition especially for the time of year. All bunkers were manicured as were the teeing areas. It is not an over-challenging course which made it fun to play. It was an enjoyable round.
Great course
Desert Canyon is our favorite course. We try to play there at least once a month....the staff is wonderful, the course is always in great shape and we really have a great time there.
Hot golfer
What a great course! Did 18 in 3.5 hrs. No waiting and pace of play was excellent. Fun and varied holes. Beautiful scenery and greens were as they should be. We got a hot deal on GN.COM . If you have the chance, play this course.
Beautiful views great layout
Course was in excellent shape,2 of us got around in 3 hrs summertime golf...great value
Scottsdale summer golf
I played Desert Canyon around 1030 on 7/17. GN rate was $35 including range balls. I thought it was a little high but the course conditions made up for it.
I haven't played here in about 5 years and was pleasantly surprised at how well the course looked. The course wasn't in winter conditions but was definitely better taken care of than I can remember in the summers I played.
The course was empty mostly due to the high heat and we were able to get around in about 3.5 hours without setting any speed records.
Tee boxes were mostly good with a couple of the elevated boxes not level. Fairways were in awesome shape with plenty of grass. The greens were a little inconsistent with speed and was hard to get a handle on them. Bunkers were all in good shape with plenty of nice sand.
The course is not overly long but it does have a couple of long, difficult, and uphill holes on the back nine that can be frustrating. Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, and eighteen are all uphill with 15 and 18 being a par 4, 13 a par 3, and 14 a par 5. Par is like a birdie and bogey is like a par on these holes. The 16th hole is a fun downhill par 3 with a great view of the surrounding area.
Overall the course is fun and challenging without beating you up too bad. The course is a good summer play if they keep the conditions up the way they were yesterday. The views around the course are beautiful looking over the desert and seeing 4 Peaks and Fountain Hills.
Love the layout but greens this time were no good.
Second time playing this course the greens were inconsistence but everything else was ok.
better than ever
It's been a little over a year since I played this course. I don't know what changed but this course went from good to excellent. Greens, fairways and tee boxes all in great shape. That's hard to do in Arizona in the summer. Staff is very helpful. I can't wait to play there again.
Great Value, fun course to play, lighting fast greens
Great Value, fun course to play, lighting fast greens, interesting shots, lots of up-hill shots to the greens, and a 100 foot drop to the 16 green.

With the summer being the only time for our grounds crew to do aerfication and other projects like tee boxes its hard to keep things perfect. I do apologize for my staff not informing you when you checked in on that day. Please come and see us here in a couple months when our new tee boxes are finished.
