Kokopelli Golf Course
About
Located a short distance from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and Arizona State University, Kokopelli Golf Course is a championship length course that offers many interesting challenges. The rolling terrain creates sloping greens and undulating fairways. A majority of the teeboxes and greens are elevated as well. The course also has large multiple island tees and water hazards in the form of meandering lakes that come into play on several holes. The signature hole of Kokopelli Golf Course is the par-5 18th hole. The dramatic finishing hole calls for a shot off an elevated too followed by an approach shot past water to an elevated green.

Is this round over yet?! Photo submitted by u000001335906 on 01/03/2015
A work in progress
Had some time to kill on a business trip, so took my co-worker out for a late afternoon round here. Figured for the price we were paying we would have some fun and enjoy our time. We did indeed have fun and enjoyed our time, but man was the course in BRUTAL condition. The greens were like shag carpets straight from the 1970's, fairways had some grass but mostly compressed dirt, and the bunkers were a disaster. Speaking with the Pro he gave me some background on the prior ownership group and how they let the course go to poop, so much so that many areas without grass won't be able to be saved. New ownership has come in and they have elaborate plans on improving the quality of the course. I'm sure back in the late 80's and 90's this was a fantastic track and had a bright future. Hope to see some glory restored to this facility and will check back here in the future to see the progress.
Poor shape
After reseeding to many bare spots, real muddy in areas. Beware they forced us to play 3 some as a 4 some.
Awful course conditions
The greens are horrible ho put. The Golfball hobbled to the holes. No smooth putting. Water puddles and muddy on the course. Sand bunkers are just dirty unplayable obstacles..the course is to expensive for those conditions. The pace of play was very slow. We had to wait on every hole.
We’re sorry to hear about your experience, Wolfgang108, but the feedback is appreciated. Hope you’ll give us another chance in the future.
no sand
I understand the coarse was just oversewed, but the conditions of the sandtraps was ridiculous. every trap was rock hard with grass growing in them. It doesn't matter how nice the fairways get if the rest of the coarse is not cared for it will always be third rate.
Hi Rmiller16, we wish your experience could have been better, but appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We’ll use this as a learning experience as to how we can improve.
Seriously people!?!
I haven’t played Koko in years and I didn’t play recently. I’m just commenting on how there could still possibly be new people playing this course given all the horrible reviews. Seriously people. Stop coming here.
Thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear we disappointed you. Your comments will be shared with the rest of the team.
Still wet and muddy. Missing grass due to over seeding. Bunkers are rock hard. Give it two weeks to be back looking nice.
Thanks for the review. We will share this with the team!
Absolute Goat Track
Got a “deal” for $50 cart included. Arrived at course was told they had overseeded so cart path only. No problem. First hole: little to no grass on fairways, no sand in bunkers, mud and casual water everywhere and greens as slow as Velcro. 4.5 hour mid week round and I guarantee I will not be back at any price. Beyond disappointing!
We’re very sorry that that was your experience with us. We will use this as a learning experience on how we can improve.
Golf vacation
Fairways were earful and the greens even worse. Did not get a good lie on any hole, understand the course has just been re seeded.
TonyYankee, thank you for the feedback. It’s important for us know how we can better serve our customers and your comments will be shared with the team.
would be great if there was grass and not so much mud.
we didn't think to ask what the condition of the course was...but found out that the front nine was not ready to be played on .... lots of mud and standing water along with the other aspects of this time of the season. A little more info and a lot less cost should have been offered.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review, gkreuz. Very sorry your experience wasn’t what you’d hoped. We will continue to utilize feedback to improve the areas impacting guest experience.
Kokopelli
Overseed was not complete. several fairway areas, especially on hillside were barren, no traps were raked. most had caked mud and some even had grass growing in them. There was so much casual water that ducks and geese were swimming even in the smallest "lakes". I have played there before, but I doubt I will play there again. This course might be ready to play in amonth if the grass starts to grow. We had cart path only rules, which I understand, but with so much mud, it was really a slog. Not enjoyable in the least.
comparison
compared to other courses in the area, this one has not recovered well from recent storm damage and reseeding. Cart path only and many puddles by fairway run off areas. Lots of mud and traps were in very bad condition. Not a good value.
My favorite passtime
Course was in horrible condition. More mud than grass. mosquitos were horrible, standing water everywhere.
We wont be back.
AWFUL!!!!!
Where do I start. Basically, shouldn't be open. Played this course 6 years ago and it was fine. Thought we'd try it again, big mistake. I understand overseeding and all that comes with that, but condition of this course was way beyond that. It has clearly been neglected for a number of years. Started on the first tee with no blocks on the tee boxes. Hadn't been any sand in the traps for a while. Standing water in any depressions. Any raised mounds hadn't seen grass in forever. Cart path was covered in mud in spots. Etc., etc. etc. Bottom line is that as nonlocals we felt that we had been suckered into paying to play this course. Tee-off. com could do themselves a favor by removing this course as option!!!!!
AWFULL
Hole #2 was closed and probably will be for a long time. The fairways looked more like a motocross track and where as hard as concrete. The course needs A LOT of work but no one was doing any work. It’s going to be a long time before the course is in any shape to lay.
Sad!
Terribly disappointed.. I've played this course years ago and it was a fine course.. Init's present condition, I felt like I was playing golf in a remake of Mad Max.
I can only hope the situation is temporary and they will restore the course to its former much better condition.
Total Waste of Time
Upon checking in we were told that hole 2 was closed. No big deal but there was no discount offered. There was no grass in any of the fairways on the front nine and only slightly more on the back nine. There were maintenance people all over but the place but it was hard to tell what they were trying to accomplish. Most of the bunkers were bare. There was no sand at all. The few that had sand were in such bad shape that you couldn’t play out of those either. The greens rolled of but even a very high shot would hit hard and roll off the back. You had to hit it short of the green and let it roll up on every hole.
The cart girl was. Dry nice and the guy working in the food area worked his butt off to keep things moving. I’m not going back. Don’t go or you’ll feel ripped off too.
