Kokopelli Golf Course
About
Located a short distance from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and Arizona State University, Kokopelli Golf Course is a championship length course that offers many interesting challenges. The rolling terrain creates sloping greens and undulating fairways. A majority of the teeboxes and greens are elevated as well. The course also has large multiple island tees and water hazards in the form of meandering lakes that come into play on several holes. The signature hole of Kokopelli Golf Course is the par-5 18th hole. The dramatic finishing hole calls for a shot off an elevated too followed by an approach shot past water to an elevated green.

Is this round over yet?! Photo submitted by u000001335906 on 01/03/2015
Good deal for a summer round
I arrived about 30 minutes before my tee time and the staff let me go out early since they were not busy. I thought the greens were in good shape, and the fairways were decent given the hot summer temperatures. However if you were off of the fairways, grass was a bit sparse at times. I personally enjoy the layout, and play this course regularly.
Kokapelli dirt golf course
The pictures make the course look awesome but in realistic The course is very Brown a lot of spots have no grass and it is very much a hard Pan play. Bunkers are nasty , no sand water hazard sometimes water. Why r beverage carts on the 8,9,10 ,11 holes only especially in the desert hydration is very important.
Golf outing
I enjoyed playing at Kokopeli course. Prices are still are bit pricey, but it was a good price for a round of golf.
Great tees and greens
The tees and greens were fantastic but the fairways need a bit of work. I will return next year when they have had time to work the fairways. We're We're from Canada so playing isn't possible but we will get back to play Kokopelli again.
disappointed
I love the layout. It is a challenging course a bit different than the valley norm, however the conditions were terrible. Burnt out dust and muddy. It was great the time I played it when it was in good shape.
Where is the grass?
Not only was the pace behind average, but the grass is missing from majority of the course. Of course the holes you can see from the main roads look epic, but holes 11 ( the new 2) through 8 (the new 17) are garbage. No one in the clubhouse said details on the card were accurate, where 10 is now 1 so the round was played from a true “start at 10” which was quite unpleasant.
All in all, play a different course. Kokopelli has a lot of work to do in order to keep up or even get close to the other 20 courses in the east valley.
Surprisingly Better Than I Thought
Honestly this course was really good for the price, only real issues is there was a ton of mud in the sand pits or even water pits.
Poor Conditions
This was my third time playing this course but first time in 15 years. Thought we would revisit what was a beautiful course. Course was in rough shape- standing water, run down cart paths. No sand in traps and more bare dirt than grass. Wouldn’t recommend course as cost of playing here was more than I’ve paid for better conditioned courses.
Getting better
Fairways are getting better, tees boxes for the most part were ok, greens are really good, layout is still way under rated, price and pace were good, but still the same problems rest in the dirt areas off the fairways and the sand traps are still as bad as possible. Over-all really happy with the improvements and could not believe the two sand traps in front of the 18 green. For some reason the sand traps are filled with awesome sand and how different the course would be if all were the same. Also, do not waste your time playing out of the dirt traps, take the ball out and play it from behind the trap --without penalty. All good!!
Best bang for your buck.
The tee boxes and greens are beautiful. The fairways need some work but the greens and tees outweigh the fairway issues. Good layout, fair price and easy to bet on and book. The food was excellent as well..
Nice course in Gilbert Arizona
If you’re in Gilbert Arizona stop by and play this course, good layout, friendly people, the perfect local public course.
Good value course
You get what you pay for, but the course was in Ok shape - lots of burn in and around the fairways - greens weren’t bad at all.
Value with questionable quality
There's no doubt that $35 is a fair/good price to play Kokopelli. It was a twilight rate; we started at 3:30 and finished 18 holes in about three hours. Excellent pace of play! The fairways are in pretty good shape. However, off the fairways there are extensive unsightly dirt patches throughout the course. These are not typical desert-landscaping areas; these are unmanaged dirt areas. There are numerous sand traps that are flat-out hard pan--literally devoid of sand; bare, hard, and miserable to play from.
Poor
This was my first time playing this course and I will not be going back any time soon. The course is barely playable in my eyes. Tee boxes were decent and some parts of the way fairway were ok. The greens were decent but the rest of the course is absolutely the worst. The rough is just rock hard dirt that I didn't even want to swing my clubs on. The bunkers are rock hard clay and no sand at all. There are little spots of water just sitting around the course and on the cart path that you have to drive around. The course is poorly marked as I didn't hardly know where to go. I started on hole 10 and actually quit after only doing 9 holes. I don't recommend going to this place as it's clear they don't care about the way their course looks. My cart was dirty and when I looked on the one side a piece of it was like falling off. Like others have said there is a ton of potential but they have a ton of work to do to get it to that point. The people there were friendly but the course itself has much to be desired. Wish I wouldn't have spent any money trying to play this course.
