Western Skies Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course open to the public, based in Gilbert, Arizona. Since its inception in 1992, it has gained recognition as one of the most economical golf spots in the East Valley, providing an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere for players of varying abilities. The course, crafted by famous golf course designer Brian Whitcomb, features broad, playable fairways along with thoughtfully positioned bunkers and water hazards, creating a design that appeals to novices while keeping seasoned golfers engaged.

This par-72 course extends roughly 6,744 yards from the championship tees and offers picturesque views of the Superstition Mountains. Its layout focuses on enhancing playability while still emphasizing precision and careful course navigation. Notable holes, which include various high-risk, high-reward par 4s and demanding par 3s over water, ensure memorable experiences throughout the game. Open throughout the year, the course benefits from Arizona's favorable weather patterns and well-maintained playing surfaces.

In addition to the golf course itself, Western Skies provides a well-rounded golf experience, including a cutting-edge practice facility featuring a driving range enhanced by Inrange technology, putting greens, areas for short-game practice, and learning programs. Golf enthusiasts can also shop at a fully stocked pro shop and dine at Mulligans Grill, the club's restaurant and sports bar, making it a favorite spot to visit both before and after a round.

Positioned conveniently just minutes away from Loop 202 and US-60, and around 20 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Western Skies appeals to both local players and tourists. The club fosters a friendly environment underscored by its tagline, "Where Locals Bring Their Friends," highlighting its commitment to customer satisfaction, affordability, and community involvement. It also provides membership options, hosts tournaments, organizes leagues, and holds special events throughout the year.

Ultimately, Western Skies Golf Club stands out for offering a pleasing and accessible golfing experience that merges quality course conditions, modern practice facilities, and outstanding value. The blend of a challenging yet accommodating design, a convenient location, and a welcoming ambiance has established it as a preferred choice for golfers across the Phoenix metropolitan region.

Great Course

This course is in excellent condition for the time of year. Greens ran true and actually had grass on them. Pace of play was good until a group of "Men's league" decided to become a group of 7 on the last 3 holes. Highly recommend this course.

FIVE STARS for the Good People and the Fun Course at Western Skies!

I played Western Skies in 2 1/2 hours, sometimes playing two balls, and using my Golf Pass discounts, I paid about $10. Unlike many courses, they are not understaffed during summer, and every person at Western Skies always treats me like family. It's a great par 72 course in fantastic shape 12 months/year. FIVE STARS!

Easy Long Range Course

Check in was a breeze but the guy working the counter couldn’t have cared less about our business.

We had a tee time around noon, insinuated that we wanted to play 30 minutes early and told us to jump right up to the #1 tee box. No, we’re going to practice first. Neglected to offer us range balls, just an awful experience at the club shop.

Bar cart was nice to have on a hot day, she provided us enough service to keep up hydrated.

Course was nice, good condition, greens were great. Sand traps were in disastrous condition and a lot of desert dirt and rock, beware of those clubs. Also, does no one fix their divots anymore? Yikes, those tee boxes needed reviving FAST. What’s happened to golf?

Only a couple drink hazards but a great course for any skill set.

We’ll be back, it was a good time and hard to beat price using the Hot Deals offer.

Disappointing experience with western skies leadership

I’ve been a regular at Western Skies for quite a while — multiple visits a week, always paid up on my Performance Pass, respectful of the facility and the staff. I’ve worked in the golf industry as a Class A PGA Professional and former Head Pro, so I understand both sides of the counter. What I didn’t expect was to be treated with blatant disrespect by the Senior General Manager, Scott Jacques.

Here’s what happened:

One morning, I brought a guest out to hit balls with me. After I grabbed a bucket using my pass, a man approached us on the range with an aggressive tone and immediately asked, “Are you a Performance Pass member?” I said yes, and instead of a respectful clarification or conversation, he fired back, “Those balls are for you only,” in a blunt and condescending tone. No introduction. No uniform. No name tag. Not even a simple “good morning.” My guest and I had no idea who he was — he gave no indication he was even an employee, let alone the GM.

When I tried to respond and explain that it was an honest mistake — that I didn’t realize the policy was strictly individual use — he escalated the situation by saying, “Well, you’re stealing.” Not once, but twice. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve paid for my membership, never caused an issue, and this guy comes out of nowhere accusing me of theft over a $7 bucket of range balls?

After that, I had my membership canceled on the spot and followed up with a calm, detailed email outlining the issue. I didn’t even know at the time that I had been speaking with the Senior GM — that’s how unprofessional the interaction was.

When we spoke on the phone a few days later, it somehow got worse. Scott refused to take any ownership and doubled down on everything. When I asked why he didn’t identify himself, he said, “Why does it matter if a regular employee or the GM is in front of you?” That answer alone says everything about his approach to leadership.

He also accused me of things I never said or did — claiming I had berated a staff member in the pro shop and told them I was a PGA pro, which was a complete lie. I hadn’t mentioned my background to anyone up to that point. He also said I was “immediately hostile,” ignoring the fact that he was the one who initiated the confrontation with accusations of theft.

Then he told me, “You knew why I was coming over to talk to you.” No — I didn’t. I had no idea who he was or what his issue was until he started confronting me. That’s the problem. He walked in with an attitude, made assumptions, and treated me like a problem instead of a paying customer.

This wasn’t about a policy. It was about how the situation was handled — with zero professionalism, no introduction, and an accusatory tone that never should’ve come from someone in his position.

Bottom line: I didn’t cancel my membership because of a range bucket. I canceled it because the General Manager showed me exactly how little he values his regulars — and then tried to spin the story afterward. If this is the standard being set at Western Skies, it’s not a place I’ll support anymore, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values respect or accountability.

There are plenty of great courses in the area where the staff actually appreciate your business. This just isn’t one of them

Disappointed by Hostile Management

This was my first time using the range at Western Skies, and unfortunately, it’ll be my last. What should have been a casual, low-key experience turned into an uncomfortable situation over a simple misunderstanding about sharing a bucket of range balls.

Instead of calmly explaining any policy, management chose to approach the situation with a hostile and accusatory attitude. It was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. We weren’t trying to get away with anything shady—just two people casually hitting a few balls, and suddenly we were being treated like we’d committed a crime.

I understand policies are in place for a reason, but there’s a right way to communicate with paying customers, and this was not it. A little courtesy and professionalism would have gone a long way. The aggressive tone and complete lack of understanding from the staff—especially management—left a really sour taste.

Unfortunately, what should have been a friendly and welcoming golf facility now feels like a place where you're walking on eggshells. I won’t be coming back, and I’d encourage others to think twice if you value respectful customer service..

Decent, but not great

It’s June. It’s hot and the course could be in much better shape for what they charged for a Sunday round. Nothing flashy. Greens were “ok,” but some soggy areas throughout the course. Also in several areas you think your ball will be in grass in the fairway, only to discover it’s dirt with some very little grass sprouts in the middle of the fairway. They need to adjust the price down to the product they’re offering.

Great Layout, Course in A+ Condition, Friendly Staff

I really like that Western Skies has a straight-ahead layout, wide fairways (in great shape) big flat greens, and short par 4's. The staff is always really nice, and the price is affordable for a retiree like me. You'll like it there. Five Stars!

Western skies golf course is a good summer between!

Not crowded but still delivered on great summer golf in Arizona. Greens rolled true and fairways were mostly in good shape. Tee boxes were good also.

Price was very good!

The course is watering well to combat the 100 degrees plus heat.

i like this course and the challenge it brings.

Some holes are best playing then safe and others can be challenged.

The cart person Leah was nice and she showed up about 4-5 times between the hours of 10:30 to 2 pm.

That's right, 3.5 hours round for our twosome round.

Great Course, Fun People!

Western Skies features a well-kept par 72 course with wide fairways, big flat greens and short par 4's. I broke 80 in 2 1/2 hours, and if I can do it, almost anyone can! All the people there treat their guests like family, and you can't buy that! FIVE STARS!
