The Clubs at Arrowhead - Legend Course
About
Located in the west valley, The Clubs at Arrowhead - Legend Course (formerly known as the Legend at Arrowhead Golf Club) is an Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay-designed golf course with a traditional layout. The challenging course has six lakes creating water hazards on many of the holes and several doglegs. The difficult to read greens are undulating and in excellent condition. Each hole, except for one, has bunkering on the fairways or protecting the greens. The Clubs at Arrowhead - Legend Course's signature hole is the par-4, 426-yard fifth hole. It calls for a shot off an elevated tee with water running along the right side of the fairway as well as next to the green.

Somewhat disappointed
This review is a tough one for me. I really like the course and its layout. Today, however, we found that due to overseeding it was cart path only. This slows down the round dramatically and the long walks to the ball in the heat are not fun. As I stated in a previous review the bunkers/traps are terrible with no sand in them, only raked mud. Due to the overseeding the greens were extremely slow. The pro shop attendant told us, two strangers, that if we each wanted a cart someone would have to pay an extra cart fee. My booking on Teeoff said it came with a cart. Finally, there needs to be a map of some kind on the scorecard! For all these criticisms I would play it again.
This place doesn't understand pace of play
Goose crap everywhere. Terrible e pace of play. No sand in sand ttraps just mud holes.
Fun Course Good Value
Conditions were poor due to overseeding but generally a good course with some fun holes. Always a good value in peak season.
Bad shape
I know they just went through o reseeding, but the greens were very rough and bumpy. The fairways and rough were very inconsistent- lots of brown spots. The sand bunkers are just dirt and mud- the worst I have ever seen! I won’t come back till I hear it is better.
Great Layout but Awful Conditons
This is one of the best layouts in Phoenix. Unfortunately it has been is awful shape for over 10+ years and today was NO different.
First off the started yelled at us for putting our own clubs on a cart and told us to remove them. We were only 3 tee times for ours to start. We told him to pound sand.
The course has just been over-seeded. It was extremely wet. Lots of bare spots all over the place. The greens were very slow but that is expected coming out of over-seed. What is NOT expected is the greens missing 50% of the coverage of seed. some greens had large holes all over them. The 7th Green had over 50 large holes in the green. Like footprint size and over and inch deep!! Some of the tee boxes were very bare and others had no flat spots to hit from. The were crowned really bad.
It is really sad to me because this layout is one of the best in the valley. Mr Palmer is rolling over in his grave for what has happened to this course.
Skip this place and Play the 500 club over the hill to the northeast for the same price and way BETTER conditions.
I will NOT ever be coming back.
Course is meh, service is terrible
The course is your standard end of summer retirement community/suburbanhousing course nothing fancy and you can get a cheap late afternoon round in. The bunkers as expected in most cheaper courses are rock hard , outside the fairways are rough, but the greens are pretty solid on most holes. Just don't try to get ice for you and your friends on a scouldering AZ day. I went in to get an ice bucket for my cart, and one for my friends cart. I was notified these aren't free so I bought a beverage. Was given a bucket with 1/8 th ice and this is not an exaggeration and then asked for a bucket for my friend as well, was told I'd need to make another purchase. Fine , ridiculous , but sure ill make another purchase. I'm then told they are out of bucksts and I'd need to wait. I'm now sitting with 1/8th of an ice bucket and 2 purple Gatorade , shoutout Gatorade. Of course the ole whos the manager trick won't work because Karen who couldn't find the ice buckets was the manager. I walk out defeated with my one ice bucket slightly filled with 2 Gatorades. The saving grace here is a super friendly starter. He overheard me telling the story of the ice situation to my friend and said "we have plenty of ice buckets" went into the shop and corrected the situation, walking out a hero with a bucket of ice. Telling me "God will give you patience" and in my mind I was hoping he could give me some ice.
Jam packed on a Tuesday.
Didn't know til arriving that I had to share a cart. Waited at every teebox, almost 4.5 hours to play. Not worth it.
Legends at Arrowhead
The course is in fairly good shape for the time of year. The Bunkers had no sand and were like rock, a lift is necessary. The fairways, rough, and greens were great. The holes were cut in very strategic locations and none of them were flat. This made the game more challenging and tougher to maneuver.
The biggest set back was the pace of play and the matching of players to play together. The starter matched players at his discretion and did not account for the skill of the players. First we waited at every hole for people who tried to show better than their skill level. Lastly we were matched with players well below our level. This was undoubtedly because of economics and trying to capitalize on other courses being closed for overseeding.
Course is in alot better shape than it used to be especially the green's glad they've turned it around cause it's a challenge as far as the layout really alot of good holes with plenty of challenging holes but not a good course for higher handicaps it really slows the play down.
Bunkers all rock hard so STAY OUT!!!
Overall nice course and great pace of play at least for afternoon tee time. Sand is so hard you have virtually no shot at up and downs even from easy lies with room to work. Either replace/add sand or convert everything to grass. It's really that bad so always miss in the other direction no matter what!
This make me pay extra for car other way I have ride w/ other
Good course. Poorly ran
I love this place. It’s next to my house, it’s a really cool course as far as layout and toughness, and it’s always a good price. It’s just so poorly ran and I always run into issues. They seem to start people on the back nine a lot. Greens are in great condition right now but the green side bunkers have zero sand in them.
Enjoyable
As a first-timer at any course, I always ask the pro shop what I should know about their course. In this case, his answer was to stay out of the bunkers. That was good advice- the traps were all compacted sand that could not get a wedge under the ball. Having said that, it's really my only criticism of the course. The fairways and greens were all in good shape, especially considering the summer the Phoenix area has had. Loved the layout. I would drive to play this course again!
Challenging Greens
Love the layout of the course and the mountains provide a great backdrop. The greens roll well and true, and the pin placements can make the undulations very difficult for scoring. It’s a fun course to play.
Great course
for the money the difficulty and the amenities it's one of my favorite courses in Phoenix
