Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Very nice place.
Course was in great shape. Very long and challenging. My only complaint is "cart path only". Another couple weeks it should be perfect.
Will definetly be back.
Classic layout - difficult, long and great challenge
We travel twice a year to Phoenix for golf with all our buddies and this course is always on the list to play...it is a classic layout ...well thought out with tree and bunker placement. very lush, parkland style course. Good change from the desert courses.
Great service, good food in REDS...
Will continue to play each time go down
Fun little track
First tee time out. The practice tees were too far forward to hit anything but irons. There are three courses but only one person to check in all of those golfers. I walked into the golf shop 30 mins before my tee time and was told I couldn’t check in for another 10 mins. First impressions are everything. I would expect any course to be checking in golfers when the sun comes up or an hour before the first tee time. The course was in great shape but we weren’t aloud on it with our carts. Thankfully we were the first group because if we weren’t it would have been a six hour round. We finished in 4 hours and never saw the group behind us after the 4th hole.
Thank you for your review! We hope you will come back and visit soon after our post-overseeding cart path only restrictions are lifted.
Excellent shape
The course is in beautiful shape, the bunkers are the best I have ever seen, powdery sand.
Give it some time!
Played the Gold two days after opening after overseeding. The course layout is top shelf which will never be less then. The cart path only is unavoidable to allow play. But they should have waited imo to open the course the rough between holes was uncut and unplayable if you were lucky enough to find your ball a foot off the fairway. Oh you'll find plenty of lost balls from other players but most the time just not yours unless u spend 5 minutes looking with the group behind breathing down your necks.7 min between tee times was just plain ridiculous, but I played well and enjoyed my round the two singles they paired us with not so much a lot of hunting and looking with a lot of dirty looks from the group behind us. With that being said if you can't hit it straight give this course some time so they can get the grass mowed to playable height.
Good layout
Quite enjoyed the round even though it just opened up after reseeding. Like to try it again when it's been back for awhile.
Great afternoon
As usual the gold course at the wigwam was in great shape the staff is great overall great time period the round took 5 hours which is of course longer than we would like but other than that it was great
Nice but Tough
Unless you are a very good golfer just enjoy the course and take your score and the chance to play a RTJ layout. Severe penalties for off line shots. Play it for the experience.
The course was in very good condition. The traps are strageticly placed and the elavated greens were very challenging.
I think it is a great challenging course considering some traps in the middle of the fairway within driving range.
A Real Golf Resort
Worth the drive from Scottsdale to the west. Coming from out of state, you will not be disappointed. I know it is over seeding time, but the superintendent takes pride in the condition of this course and it showed. Well done. Everyone at the resort was wonderful, helpful, and courteous. Great job!!! The restaurant, Reds, was a pleasant surprise, the food was excellent, 5 star. The service superb. This experience made me smile. Thanks to everyone at the resort.
Great traditional layout
Definitely a 4 star! Nice condition. Nice staff.
Fun time.
Alot of work needed
No water coolers on course. Umm...Arizona....Desert?
Yardage markers are in the middle of the fairway. Kinda odd, oh and they are all off by 20-30 yrds!
No way to identify if flags are back, middle, or front locations.
All of the 3 courses at the Wigwam intertwine. Unfortunatly there are no signs guiding you to the next location.
Don't waste your $ here.
There are water fountains on the golf course and on Gold, they are available in 7 different locations. There are yardage markers in the middle of the fairway. They are also on the side of the fairway as you enter the fairway so that we have markings every 25 yards and the yardage is also done with a laser for accuracy. Flags are identified front middle or back by a corresponding pole at the 150 yard marker with either a red, white or blue cap to indicate front middle or back. On Par 3 holes this is located at the tee box. This information is also on the scorecard. You are correct on the need for more directional signage which is currently being addressed. We have two of the courses that intersect, not 3 and when playing Gold, its only in one location.
The Gold course was in Fine Shape for Summer
We were very pleased with the condition of the course and the speed of play. The greens were in good shape as were the fairways. It was a nice golf day followed by a visit to the clubhouse for lunch and a beer. The staff were VERY friendly, the GM was seen out on the course and in the clubhouse on several occasions and was very cordial and welcoming.. Definitely worth the drive out from Tempe.
We appreciate you coming out to the Wigwam. We take pride in providing the best golf experience. Glad you had a great time!
I have played this course many times, but it was in rough condition that day. Pace of play was very slow. I have played all three of the courses before never encountered slow play or bad conditions like that day. I definitely will play there again since it was a one time occurrence.
Challenging West Valley course
Always a pleasure to play the "GOLD", even if not in pristine shape. Fairways and greens a little spotty.
