Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

excellent
First time to play this course--very nice!! nicely manicured, grass is green, greens were tough--lots of elevation change and fast
Wigwam gold
My group and I enjoyed this course immensely. It was challenging but fair the greens were fast which we all enjoyed.
Big ol park
Gold course is wide open, long as you want, with tough undulating greens. Well placed traps and fantastic conditions. Just about 4 hr round on Tuesday 9:00AM.
Downside - restaurant not open in the morning and after round waited 15 mins and no server came to the table so we left.
Good
Beautiful course and amenities. Pace of play was slow and a bit behind schedule
Holiday round
Played Xmas morning on the course. The course is in excellent shape from box to hole. Pace of play wasn't a issue since no one was playing at that time ,I walked 18 in 3 hours. The Gold is still CP only and it's a simple walk course is very flat. Fairways are firm and fast as are the greens. Please enjoy the Wigwam Gold and don't forget to fix your ball marks .....thanks
Long drive
Since my grandson encouraged me to play from the blue tees I had to hit long drives. That didn’t work out so well. Also the Wigwam is a long drive from where I live , so it was a long drive out and back. Beautiful destination resort course. Worth the trip.
Fantastic!!! Fantastic!!!
From the time got there I felt at home. The guys outside were great, same with the girls out on the course, but in the shop was great. I talked with Greg he was very outgoing and friendly, he explained everything I needed to know as I checked in I didn't need to ask any questions after I left the counter, he even gave me a quick tip and I played better then I have in a long time. Thank you Greg! As for the course It was better then i was even lead to believe. Fantastic views, grass everywhere no desert which was great. I will be back!!!!!
Great Conditions - More of an East Coast feel.
Course just completed overseeding and letting carts back on. Conditions awesome. Fairways very soft. Greens did not hold very well. Desert does not come into play at all as expected in Arizona. Has East Coast feel. Stayed at resort. Off season but great spot. Red's Bar & Grill great. Course Marshalls and maintenance staff very friendly. Pre-shop staff not very accommodating. Asked about rates first day at resort as guest. Quoted rack rate and max for club rental. Booked for half price on golf now and rental was cheaper in afternoon (not mentioned by staff previously) They provided a couple of sleeves of balls, which was great, wbut did not mention previously so I had already gone out and bought balls in advance. Had to ask for the balls the second day. ("Oh yeah, here you go") Overall, a great experience on the course. Will return to resort and play again. Great first day course before you take on the desert. (At Golfnow rates)
Relatively flat but has enough obstacles to make it interesting
We enjoyed the game with the exception of the starter suggesting my wife could us the forward tees. My wife is a seventeen handicap!
Not Quite Ready For Play
This is a well-regarded and long-established course with a very good reputation. It was however, recently opened following overseeding and carts are restricted to cart path only. As well, the course is fairly wet. For me, it wasnt worth the extra $ this course draws over the other Wigwam courses. The ProShop did not advise us of this and we weren't aware until we teed off. As well, this Tues had a whole armada of maintenance staff to avoid.
Great Layout at Wigwam Gold
This is a very good and challenging layout at the Gold course at Wigwam. Most holes are right in front of you so that you are aware of the hazards and design of the hole from the tee. Really enjoyable parkland course.
Unfortunately we played on a "cart path only" day which is annoying, but my wife and I took turns carrying our clubs instead. We should have simply ditched the cart right away, course is easily walkable. It was a bit of a beast for my wife at 5800 yards, but fair.
2 things. Cart path only and New over seeded rough. Imposible to hit good crisp irons from. We were not allowed to drive onto course but all maintenance crew were. They were the reason the newly over seeded rough was very matted down and impossible to hit out of. Great layout.
NICE CONDITIONS
Gold course has long par 5s and well protected greens on some par 3s.
good ball placement critical off tee. I was lucky to have a regular with me to coach me on good ball placement. Greens had good speed and sand wedges held fairly well.
Note: you have to study water hazards prior to hitting ball or have experience on course.
Fairways good. 2nd cut proved hard to find ball.
2nd cut was tender and was able to power through with 6 and 7 iron. I had difficulty hitting 4 and 5 iron in thick 2nd cut. overall course condition excellent. 90 degree rule til Christmas time on Gold.
too early to open
having cart path only carts actually slow down the game. On top of that the rough was very high and the ball almost impossible to find as it sunk right down to the bottom and was covered over by the tall grass. Fairways were in poor condition, on top of this the water available on the course was basically little drips coming from the fountains and the beer cart came around only once. Our foursome all said after the round that we would never play this course again
Very nice place.
Course was in great shape. Very long and challenging. My only complaint is "cart path only". Another couple weeks it should be perfect.
Will definetly be back.
