Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Doesn't disappoint!
Beautiful fairways; elevated greens that run true! Nice variety of holes!!!
Awesome facility
Played the course for the first time in a couple years. Played from the back tees as a college golfer. Course is a great layout from backtees but also was a test for my dad from the upper tees. Course was in mint shape and greens were fairly quick. Only setback is the group ahead of us (pretty sure they were members) took their sweet time and didn't really care they had fallen way behind.
Course Play Overshadowed by Poor Service
Course is in absolutely fantastic shape. Very challenging course for all skill levels with strategically placed bunkers and relatively tough pin locations. Only 2 complaints that almost ruined the round: the service from clubhouse and the availability of hole maps. Firstly, the clubhouse team could not have been any more rude. We arrived plenty early for our tee time but found it extremely difficult to locate the clubhouse due to a lack of signs and direction. The clubhouse attendant assumes that all players are 100% aware of course amenities and procedures, but for a first time player of the course, we were completely ignorant of where all things were. The course was not busy, but every question we had seemed to be a bother. Absolutely no hospitality. Secondly, the course lacks a description for each hole. With three courses intertwined, it gets very difficult to determine which hole you are playing and whether you are actually aiming for the correct fairway/green. Overall the course is in great condition, but lacks in user friendliness. This will not be on my list of courses to return to when I am in the area.
Lots of hazards beautifully done!
Really nice course with well placed hazards and challenging greens. Pace of play was good on front nine, but painfully slow on back nine. Had lunch before our round and everything was excellent!
Great Course
We teed off just before 4. Got 16 in and pace was great. Ran into a slow group when we got to 17. The course was in great shape. If i had to say anything bad about it, the fairways could have been cut a tad shorter but really nothing to complain about. I would definitely come back here at play the other courses next time i'm in AZ.
a good test from the tips
the gold course will test your game as it's well over 7000 yards. The layout is very wide open so balls tend to fly from other holes into you - slight knock on the layout. Some large trees can really come into play if you hit the wrong side of fairways. Greens and pin locations provided ample challenge. A couple of bunkers lacked sand but think that was a raking issue.
Great value
Only downside was carts on path only. So the round was slow. It was not that wet out there. We could have played 90 degree. Anyway, great course and condition.
Nice Course and Well Kept
Played around 10am on a friday at the Gold Course. First time playing. The course is well maintained and the grass was so green. The rough on the course is not very thick and easy to navigate. There are some well placed bunkers all over the course that make it interesting. One issue with the bunkers, there was very little to no sand in a green side bunker which caused my club to completely bottom out and duff a ball. It appeared to be only the one bunker because later in the round I was in another bunker or two and the sand was perfect. Another knock on the course was the price. Even though the range balls were included, I would have at least expected to have a range finder in the golf cart for what we paid. Greens were quick and you need to be precise where you miss on this course. If you leave it in the wrong area off the green, you could be in for some very difficult shots. Since it is a Parkland course, you can get away with some errors off the tee box as compared to the desert courses. Overall a nice course. Unfortunately this is west of Phoenix so you don't get the views of other courses.
Need a helmet to play Wigwam
We played the Gold course. The fairways are in great condition, the greens not so much. Our biggest complaint is the closeness of holes going in every direction and you constantly hear "FORE" as you are on your downswing. There are too many golfers crisscrossing since they have 3 courses in this location. You had to pay attention where your next tee box is as signs / directions are not exactly abundant. Maintenance crew were also busy doing their work without regard of approaching golfers or golfers who are putting, and I am talking midday, not early morning time. Another big turnoff was that the crew were cutting trees in the middle of the day, when the course was at its busiest.
Overall, the green fees are too expensive for what you get. There are too many golf courses in the area that are way nicer, same difficulty, more classy, friendly and definitely more reasonably priced than Wigwam!!
Beautiful track one of top courses in West Phoenix
Even playing the orange tees it is a very long course - Probably too long for a 14 handicap but still a very good experience
Very Nice Condition
I liked the layout, the distance, the clubhouse, and several other aspects but the #1 thing about this course was the condition. The fairways were smooth, cut short, and lush. The greens were fast and had no patchy areas. Even the rough was well maintained. It was impressive. It's a bit flat tee-to-green, but the approach shots and the greens are challenging.
Gold Course
Always a fun course, today the course fairways and greens, AND yes, the trays were in excellent shape. Greens are challenging as ever. Great day had by all.
A very enjoyable day
Nothing to complain about. The fairways were good, the holes were challenging but not impossible, the greens were excellent, fast and true.
Not bad
It is well kept during the summer months, not a bad course but not a course I would play again. Greens were very slow
Classic RTJones layout!
Demanding course. Don't be tempted to cut corners or you may find yourself with a blind or blocked shot. Tricky elevated geens...don't attempt going for the pin in tucked locations or you shortside yourself with very difficult recovery chip shots. Stay below the hole on approaches or you can count on some 3 putts! I played aggressively on front yielding a 43...my conservative play on the back 9 rewarded me with a 36. A must play if you want s break from the desert courses.
Very fair resort course
Couldn't have asked for better conditions. The day started out raining, but stopped by my tee time. The course was not soggy, but it helped make the greens just right. You could spin a ball into them and it would hold or backup. The weather scared off other players too so it was almost like having a private course. The course is very fair. No hidden or blind obstacles. Great course if you're looking for a place to play that you won't lose a lot of balls at. The course was in excellent condition. The fairways were kept perfect, the greens were in great shape, and there enough water holes to give you a challenge. Got lucky and booked the course with a Hot Deal so the price was just right for winter golf in AZ!
