Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Great coarse good challenge
The coarse was in great shape and the staff in and out on the coarse was fantastic.
GOOD VALUE
ALL WAS FINE.WE ALL HAD A GOOD TIME EXCEPT WE ALL THOUGHT NUMBER 18 ON THE GOLD COURSE WAS A WEIRD LAYOUT WITH HIDDEN WATER ON THE LEFT ABOUT 1 FOOT OFF THE GREEN
An Old Friend
Played this course in the late '90 and it was a wonderful change form the desert courses I was currently playing on a regular basis. The course today is nothing like I played before as it is much better. I swear the greens do not have a flat run, the fairways cuts are narrow, but there is room to explore the outer edges of the 1st cut. Highly recommended.
good value
This was excellent value for the dollar on a very good golf course. A most enjoyable afternoon at a great pace of play. Range fee was included in the green fee which was obtained online. Greens were very firm but otherwise excellent. Before the round no one was able to tell us if there was a snack shack on the course - turned out there was. Very friendly starter.
Play the Right Tees
Don't let your ego determine what tees you play. Let your handicap determine it. I joined 2 men as a single and they wanted to play the 6800 yard blue tees. Big mistake. If your an 18 play the forward tees for sure. One gent mentioned to me that he'd never had a par on a golf course before. I'm a 12 and wanted to play the 6300 yard tees which are plenty long for me. Long story short, everyone struggled but believe it or not the high handicapper did get his 1st par!! I got three total. The greens are firm and fast and most slope back to front. If its a front pin and you go long you're almost guaranteed a 3 putt. See the other reviews. They greens putt true but are very fast. I'd say 12-13. Anyhow, the condition is great and the GolfNow tee time was a great rate considering this course charges close to $100 in prime season to outside guests.
A Monster!
We played the Wigwam Gold course, from the tips. Over 7400 yards - crazy long. A very good test, but you need to be mentally ready to be making your approach shot with a long iron or even a wood. Course was in good shape, but outside of the length there's nothing special about it --- just a solid track for an enjoyable round of golf.
Where are the distance markers?
Other than no or non-visible distance markers, the course itself was fun and enjoyable, nice views. The pace of play was very very slow and we couldn't finish our 18. one other thing, why does this course lock the course restrooms at 5:30 pm when there are so many players still out on the course and approximately 2 hours left of light? My wife and I needed the course restrooms twice during play and we had to call the pro shop the first time to come open them and we ended up leaving the course the second time having to use the restrooms at the golf academy building. We may or may not return to play at this course.

Wig Wam Gold Golf Outstanding
Have not put foot on this course before. Played some other courses in the area that left me disappointed because of the overall condition. NOT the case here at Wigwam. Beautiful course, excellent condition, and (tee time off 2:22) great price at $33 per. One disappointment. Bathrooms at turn were locked? No key in cart either. No big deal. I will be on this course again and hope to play the other two (WW has three 18hole courses)soon.
Great golf course
Wigwam Gold is one of my favorite courses in the entire Valley, I just wish I lived closer. It is one of the few courses I could play every couple of weeks and never get tired of it. Really challenging approach shots just about every hole and the greens are excellent, running about 12 with plenty of slope. Excellent fairways and great sand in the traps. Heritage is also very good but the Gold is awesome.
Wigwam outing
Wow!! Great layout and great pace of play! Staff was awesome and the course was in good condition!
Seriously
I had long heard about the golf course at the wigwam and was delighted to play it for $38.00. Surprisingly that was all it was worth. There is no signage at the hole nor on the score card that shows that layout of the holes. The starter was rude. Many holes ran parallel to each other and they had overbooked so it was extremely slow. I would not play this course again.
Big improvements
I've always liked this course, but it is in the best condition I've ever played.
One of the best.
My wife and I do a lot of traveling for work and of course we take our clubs with us so we try to experience various courses wherever we go.
You know its a good course when we are still talking about it the next day, the fairways were like playing from carpet and the greens were just as nice, even with all the sand we found it easy to get out, nice and fluffy. The only thing was there was a threesome that for some reason was playing extremely slow, we were hoping for a Marshall to come by but didn't happen but other than that, I would recommend this course to anyone.
Great course
Great course, however they need a Marshall to keep up the pace. Started at 2:45 didn't get to finish last 5 holes. Dave was not a friendly guy
Great course.
I had heard that this course was newly renovated, but had never had the opportunity to play it. I decided to treat myself for my birthday and play here. Wow! What a beautiful course. It can be very difficult as there are many traps and water to be aware of. Yes, I participated in the sand traps and I fed a ball to the water monster. You really need to know where all the trouble is and play your next shot accordingly.
I was teamed up with a couple of professional baseball players in the area for spring training. Half my age and twice my distance. Geez, these guys hit long. Humble pie anyone....I am reasonably long for a weekend golfer, but these guys hit 300+ on their drives. (No, I am not exaggerating. I have a GPS and I measured some of their shots.) However, even they had some problems scoring. You still have to chip and putt well to score here. Long is helpful, but accuracy is a premium.
The ranger/starter warned me that the pace of play might be impacted if golfers chose the wrong tees and won't move up to the correct ones for their game. He said some golfers egos go for the longer tees, but they can't actually play them. He told me to try them if you like, but be ready to move up if you can't.
Apparently, most golfers must have listened to him as we did not have to wait much at all. We played fairly quick. Even the baseball players commented that we did not have to wait. I think we finished at about 4 hours. That is an excellent time for a course like this. The score card says that the round should take 4 hrs and 15 minutes. I was really surprised how well the pace flowed. I think we saw the ranger driving around spot checking on pace. It must be working as we kept a good pace going.
The gold course is nothing like the other two courses here. This one is hands down the best.
Wigwam review
Booked the Gold course but when i arrived they moved me to a smaller course as they said they were moving faster than expected, but gave no notice of a sooner start time. Staff was not friendly and seems to be in a hurry and not focused on players. Sorry to see as in the past this has been a very good experience. Suggest everyone reconfirmed their tee times and course assignment. Waited a year to play the Gold course and don't think I will return as there are many better customer serving courses in the area.
Think you are good????
This course will challenge your game big time. I'm a legit travelling 6 handicap and played the course from 6900 yards. If you miss greens, (they are all heavily bunkered tight to the greens), you need to flop onto the green off of tight grass. Not an easy shot at the best of times... But add to the mix hard-dry 13+ stimp greens and it isn't a lot of fun. 93 times later I was done. I played it again from 6300 yards and was 78... Way more enjoyable. Swallow your pride and play the right tees. This course is A real good challenge for good players but I would say if you don't break 90 regularly you will struggle. The greens are the fastest I have played in the greater Phoenix area. Staff was friendly. Bring a gps as carts don't have them and there are a lot of faced carries. Driving range is thin (eg. Not a lot of grass...dirt).

Had played the Gold course multiple times 20-25 years ago, and found it a fun as I remembered. Great layout in good condition, nice pace on the greens, and speed of play was fine. New sand in the bunkers was noted on a few occasions, and was very playable. Beverage cart and halfway house personnel were very pleasant. I didn't rate the "Staff Friendliness" portion as I will give them a mulligan(lots of players, busy day), and let it go at that. It was a beautiful day and a great track and that's the important stuff.
Bring an umbrella for all the beaches!
This course has had some updating and they are all positive. If you play from the tips you better be a pretty good golfer! We played from the orange tees. They were having a tour tournament when we played and some of the pin placements were really challenging! Most of the fairways were lush and green. The greens were quick and often large.
The water holes were lacking water, but my ball still found some twice. The sand is some of the best I have played from which tells you something about my game! Pretty course to play.
Nice course but long for the ladies
A very nice course with challenging elevated greens. At close to 6000 yards and very heavy rough it is a bit much for your average female recreational golfer particularly for ones in their 60's. The rough and greens will challenge the men as well.
