Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Pretty basic
This would be a good opening round, a warm up course. Very flat and few features. A lot of bunkers and a couple of holes have water in play, however from what would be the white tees it is short and flat. Drier conditions lead to a lot of roll on the fairways and easy shots in to the green. Nice pro shop, good selection of goods.
Wigwam Gold
It was a great day and everything went well, esp the price!
This was my favorite course
the greens were not in a good shape. I am very disappointed. I brought a friend from Denver to play with me and greens were not in a good shape. We enjoyed the greens at Estrella Golf..
Overall a good place to play, great value!
The greens are in good shape, a few bare spots from the burn out of the winter Rye grass. Tee boxes and fairways hadn't been mowed in several days. Otherwise a great value.
The course has good features
I liked the course. It was in pretty good shape.
Great course
Course is in great shape. Friendly staff
Go for the Gold...
This course was alot less challenging than I thought it would be, the greens were the real challenge, fast and somewhat undulating. would play again for sure..
Be prepared to be challenged.
My wife and I stayed at the Wigwam Resort for our vacation, and I got the chance to play the Gold course. It is a very good course , and indeed a challenge, mostly due to the tricky greens. The only negative was pace of play, mostly because I was a single, and had caught up to the early morning pack, and nowhere to go. Other than that, it was a fun round.
gold for gold!
Love this golf course! Third time playing it since summer has come to AZ. Great condition as always . Love the fact that they removed alot of neglected sand traps and the ones they kept are filled wit good quality sand. Keep up the great work Wigwam resort! Stop by Reds after your round and say hi to Ashley she make a great margarita!
Great coarse good challenge
The coarse was in great shape and the staff in and out on the coarse was fantastic.
GOOD VALUE
ALL WAS FINE.WE ALL HAD A GOOD TIME EXCEPT WE ALL THOUGHT NUMBER 18 ON THE GOLD COURSE WAS A WEIRD LAYOUT WITH HIDDEN WATER ON THE LEFT ABOUT 1 FOOT OFF THE GREEN
An Old Friend
Played this course in the late '90 and it was a wonderful change form the desert courses I was currently playing on a regular basis. The course today is nothing like I played before as it is much better. I swear the greens do not have a flat run, the fairways cuts are narrow, but there is room to explore the outer edges of the 1st cut. Highly recommended.
good value
This was excellent value for the dollar on a very good golf course. A most enjoyable afternoon at a great pace of play. Range fee was included in the green fee which was obtained online. Greens were very firm but otherwise excellent. Before the round no one was able to tell us if there was a snack shack on the course - turned out there was. Very friendly starter.
Play the Right Tees
Don't let your ego determine what tees you play. Let your handicap determine it. I joined 2 men as a single and they wanted to play the 6800 yard blue tees. Big mistake. If your an 18 play the forward tees for sure. One gent mentioned to me that he'd never had a par on a golf course before. I'm a 12 and wanted to play the 6300 yard tees which are plenty long for me. Long story short, everyone struggled but believe it or not the high handicapper did get his 1st par!! I got three total. The greens are firm and fast and most slope back to front. If its a front pin and you go long you're almost guaranteed a 3 putt. See the other reviews. They greens putt true but are very fast. I'd say 12-13. Anyhow, the condition is great and the GolfNow tee time was a great rate considering this course charges close to $100 in prime season to outside guests.
A Monster!
We played the Wigwam Gold course, from the tips. Over 7400 yards - crazy long. A very good test, but you need to be mentally ready to be making your approach shot with a long iron or even a wood. Course was in good shape, but outside of the length there's nothing special about it --- just a solid track for an enjoyable round of golf.
Where are the distance markers?
Other than no or non-visible distance markers, the course itself was fun and enjoyable, nice views. The pace of play was very very slow and we couldn't finish our 18. one other thing, why does this course lock the course restrooms at 5:30 pm when there are so many players still out on the course and approximately 2 hours left of light? My wife and I needed the course restrooms twice during play and we had to call the pro shop the first time to come open them and we ended up leaving the course the second time having to use the restrooms at the golf academy building. We may or may not return to play at this course.

Wig Wam Gold Golf Outstanding
Have not put foot on this course before. Played some other courses in the area that left me disappointed because of the overall condition. NOT the case here at Wigwam. Beautiful course, excellent condition, and (tee time off 2:22) great price at $33 per. One disappointment. Bathrooms at turn were locked? No key in cart either. No big deal. I will be on this course again and hope to play the other two (WW has three 18hole courses)soon.
Great golf course
Wigwam Gold is one of my favorite courses in the entire Valley, I just wish I lived closer. It is one of the few courses I could play every couple of weeks and never get tired of it. Really challenging approach shots just about every hole and the greens are excellent, running about 12 with plenty of slope. Excellent fairways and great sand in the traps. Heritage is also very good but the Gold is awesome.
Wigwam outing
Wow!! Great layout and great pace of play! Staff was awesome and the course was in good condition!
Seriously
I had long heard about the golf course at the wigwam and was delighted to play it for $38.00. Surprisingly that was all it was worth. There is no signage at the hole nor on the score card that shows that layout of the holes. The starter was rude. Many holes ran parallel to each other and they had overbooked so it was extremely slow. I would not play this course again.
Greens were slow and in bad shape, I totally agree. I was extremely disappointed considering the reputation of Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
