Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Big improvement with bunkers
The new sand in the bunkers makes them fair to play a big improvement over previous years. The course is still a great and fair layout. Greens were in great shape as well.
Renovated Golf Course very playable, but can be tough
One of two Robert Trent Jones courses at Wigwam Resort, this is the championship layout that hosts many high profile events throughout the year. After a renovation this summer by Tom Lehman, however, the course is more playable for average players and a little more challenging for the big hitters, where they'll now find that bunkers they used to carry are in their landing zones. With thick rough, hitting the fairways is also a must if you want to score.
Better Value Elsewhere
Arrived at course for breakfast before round to find out that restaurant at golf shop is not open weekday mornings any more - to serve three courses. Greens were just sanded, but no notice given by golf shop staff. New bunkering a definite improvement, but $69 for a round on the Gold is way too expensive for this course. Better golf value at Verrado or Raven Phoenix for same money, and they are better courses for challenge and condition. Resort was not busy.
Great course
Played nine holes early morning, staff was great, very helpful, provided ice cooler on cart. Course was in great shape.
Freindly staff... friendly fairways
I've been playing for a couple of years now and was intimated by trying club courses... this was one of the friendliest places I've been to...
Great course
The only problem was the address on our golf now confirmation was wrong so we were late. The staff was all very nice about it though and fit us in anyway.
Dumb it down
I used to love playing the Gold course but since they completed a Tom Lehman renovation I'm not so sure.
They removed quite a few sand traps and essential made it a easy muni. The greens are in horrible condition but they just punched them a few weeks ago to be fair. I couldn't hold a shot as everything I sent had a ton of roll out. Mind you 1 play from the Orange tees and they were well up. I'm 67 yo and play to about a 6 but I shot my lowest round on the gold 76 with virtually no problem. I realize what they are trying to do but to me I preferred the old GOLD as opposed to the NEW GOLD. I like to have to think.
Left wanting more
We arrived to find out the course had just reopened, usually not a bad thing and the pro shop told us that there had been no play for 2 months on the course so it should be great. Well, the tee boxes were the highlight. The greens were bumpy and slow, imagine if there had been play in the last 2 months. Not sure why they would open a course for play when the bunkers are still being shaped and there is new sod just laid that you need to drop from. The course layout and holes were good and when finished I am sure you won't be disappointed but sadly, I can't help feeling let down which makes me think twice about returning
They told you the course condition prior to teeing off, and gave you a bounce back certificate. 0-4 handicap? LOL...yeah right.
Revisit to Wigwam
Only my second time playing at Wigwam. Played the Heritage course as a single but got paired up with a threesome. The course was a typical old school layout. Mature trees line the adequate fairways and not much rough. There was some water hazards and a couple of forced carry's. Found the bunkers to be more dirt than sand, yet not to challenging. The greens rolled fairly true. A few greens displayed bare spots, but hey it's summer in Arizona! Overall a fun and enjoyable course. The entire staff were friendly and courteous. Next time I'll play the Gold course (was closed).
Wigwam Gold
My niece placed second in the state of Arizona on the Gold course. The course was definitely an exceptional experience!!!!
4 hr 15 min pace. I'm accustom to playing slightly faster. This pace is the accepted pace of the resort. A foursome two groups ahead were setting the pace.
The practice facilities are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
Great round until back nine
Great round at the Wigwam Gold course. I had a noon tee time but got off a few minutes early as no one was out there. Was able to play by myself from the back tees which was great. I finished the front nine in just over an hour. Then I started to run into a dad and his son playing. I got to the tee box as they were hitting on 11. The dad scowled at me and kept playing. He didn't ask me if I wanted to play through which was rude. Thag being said, the last 7 holes took 1.5 hours and waiting on every single shot. No rangers around to complain to, either. But, still a good round and had fun in the sun.
Gold course was in excellent condition. New renovations made the course interesting and in the best shape that I have ever seen it.
Highly recommend it!

Great Time
Excellent course as always very tough for someone my age (70) but still enjoy playing it once in awhile.
Great Day on the Gold Course
My first time playing golf since before last Christmas. Played the Gold course, tee time at 11:30 but got off early around 10:45. I had the front 9 to myself, and ran into a few people on the back but played through them. The course is in great shape tee to green, the greens being pretty fast. I really had a great time just being out there on such a nicely maintained course. Can't wait to play again next week.
Course Closing on 6/8/2015
I was concerned when I showed up for my tee time when the staff informed me that the Heritage course would be shutting down for awhile and they hadn't been watering it.
To my surprise, along with everyone's in Phoenix, we received some June rainfall, and this kept one of my favorite courses still very playable. This course has the biggest greens of the 3 at the Wigwam, and many of them aren't anthills like the patriot or gold courses. Too bad it seems that is west valley gem will be shutting down for this summer, but I hope that the planned improvements will add to it already appealing nature. Rounds play fast and the resort style layout will keep your errant tee shots from coming up missing like a lot of the desert courses here in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Where's the sand?
I love the course except for a couple of issues. The Gold course has 85 sand traps. Only about 10 of them actually had sand. The rest were DIRT traps. Many of them are deep so chipping out of them is next to impossible. To bad - such a great layout! The other complaint - warm beer at the 8th hole snack bar. Warm Bud Light Lime and not very refreshing. Please add sand to the other 75 bunkers.
Great Course challenging and good price
I have played all the courses now at Wigwam and I must say that the Gold is by far the best. Very challenging, long, and fun... several holes with hidden water, small landing areas, and the greens were excellent. Every green is elevated and guarded well!!!
Good Course
Great layout should have played from another tee, joined with high handicappers.
Not Resort Golf!
This facility has been a favorite of mine for 10 years. The staff have been professional and friendly and the course well maintained and challenging. Not today. The heritage half way house is closed for demolition, the starter allowed 8 twosomes in a row to tee off, and no beverage cart to be seen through the first nine holes. After three attempts to contact the pro shop and inquiry as to the whereabouts of the beverage cart, I threw in the towel. Nine holes in 2.25 hours is punishment enough, but no libation to soften the blow, I had to walk off after. Nine holes.
I will say that the pro shop heard my concerns and offered me a free round for the bad experience. Not sure I will go back until I hear things are better. It's a shame really, as Wig Wam is the only "Resort" in the west valley.
Hidden Gem
I've been here for 5 years now, golfed all over the valley, how did I miss this place. Love the course layout, in great shape, excellent greens. 20-30 mph winds made scoring impossible but I will return! Hands down the best $25 I ever spent on golf.
Great Course
Clean facilities, Great greens... Mature trees makes for a challenging round if you not in the fairway. Overall great golf course!

Easy muni....and you say you are a 5-9 handicap? I am an advanced golfer, and found this course challenging if played from the tips.
