Ahwatukee Country Club
About
The sun shines 350 days a year in Phoenix and you can enjoy this factor at Ahwatukee Country Club. "Ahwatukee" is Crow Indian for "house of dreams", but this could easily be the "golf course of dreams".
The semi-private Ahwatukee Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course designed by John Bulla in 1974 that is open year-round and includes a driving range, as well as a cart included in the greens fee. The golf course is par-72 and measures 6,713 yards from the championship tees.
The Ahwatukee Country Club golf course features a fairly wide-open layout, but has out-of-bounds areas on either side of the fairways - including some with houses, so watch out for those windows - as well as water hazards on some holes. The putting greens play fast.
After a tight front nine on the Ahwatukee Country Club golf course, things open up on a razor-sharp par-4 dogleg 10th hole, with no chance to cut corners: there's a towering forest to the left.

Always a great time at Ahwatukee club, sad to hear About robs departure.
Mud bog or shag carpet
This course has been the only one I could rate lower than Cild Water. Where to begin...
Greens: 80's shag carpet. Probably a 5 on a stimp. Nothing will hold. Nip a 60° and watch it roll. Bring a wedge in like a lawn dart returning from orbit and watch it roll. BUT, you couldn't attack short of the green to play a release because the mud would grab it like velcro.
Fairways: Not sure mowers were working. Patches in the middle were thicker than the rough. Irrigation is also an issue. If you didn't land on what little grass was there it was a sloppy mess. Standing water everywhere. I had more mid balls in 1 rounds than I've had collectively in many years.
Bunkers: Good ones were good (rare) bad ones were concrete and caverns.
Tee boxes: Again, not sure if all of the mowers were broken or not, but most were about 3" thick. The ladies red tee boxes weren't even laid out on many of the holes so we just had to guess for the wife.
Cart paths: Suggestions. So many were full of water, mud, or both.
This place is listed as Ahwatukee Country Club. Seriously disappointing. Not worth the drive nor the cost.
Get what you pay for
Course condition was rough, staff was incredibly friendly though! It was very slow paced without a Marshall to keep people on track but would go back.
Great round as always , fairways looking a lot better!
Needs ALOT of work
Normally love this track for the summer value knowing that it won’t be in the best of shape when I go. But this was worse than usual. I know they’re renovating, but the grass all over the course was over grown or non existent. Bunkers had puddles of water from sprinklers being stuck spraying in one direction. Tee boxes were rougher than normal. Greens were okay enough. Probably would stay away for a bit until they can get a bit further in the renovation
Good time for novices
Invited my friend to go hack it out as it was both of our first times at that course. We're not the best but certainly able to keep pace. We had a blast working on our approaches as the layout was decent. The carts had GPS and scorekeeping which made it easy to keep track of how bad we were doing. Greens we in great shape, sand is typical Arizona hard dirt, and the drinks made up for our crappy scores. Would golf again.
Don’t bother
Worst course I’ve played all year, and I’ve played here many times in the past. This was the worst I’ve seen it and that’s saying something. Don’t bother unless the round is $10 or less.
Focus on Conditions
Played ok. Course had some massive repair going on across the entire front and back sides. A few balls I hit ended up in the middle of the fairway but were not findable due to massive puddling and standing water. I have played here multiple times and this was the poorest conditions yet. Hoping something turns around soon for course maintaining because the club is nice and so are the employees.
Great course, it’s improving a lot. Staff is always friendly and happy to help. Greens have been very good .
My favorite course
Me and my brother and all our friends play every Monday when we can and we love the people and the course.
In a really bad spot right now
First, be prepared for tons of ongoing course maintenance. Since it is summer and it has to be done at some time, I’m okay with that at the price. Greens can be really nice, as are most of the bunkers. Tee boxes and fairways usually suck but especially right now. My buddy and I actually like some of the challenges this course provides on its best day, so it sucks to write this.
What I am not okay with is the poor pace of play. We were scheduled for 8:48AM just for the 8:40AM group to be teeing off 10 minutes late. 8:40am group was held up by group in front of them. We saw the 8:40 turn around and leave after 12 holes. My group left after hole 17. 5 hour pace for a course as simple as this one is inexcusable. There needs to be a starter at the clubhouse or hole 1, and / or a ranger who is periodically checking groups for pace. Having neither causes disasters like yesterday.
Water stations were empty by 10AM and never refilled. Bathrooms were wack to say the least. No beverage cart.
Employees behave in a manner that is deplorable, aside from maybe a couple of the younger clubhouse attendees. Cart staff turned their shoulder when I told them pace took 5 hours.
Awful Experience
There was / is nothing redeeming about this course. Pace of play was 5+ hours. They don’t have a starter so it is a free-for-all off the first tee. Fairways were muddy or dirt. Tee boxes are chopped up. Some holes didn’t have forward (red) tee boxes marked. First set of bathrooms had to light so we left the door open. Second set of bathrooms - one was out of order and the one operating bathroom has no toilet paper. There was no beverage cart service. It was terrible. Will never golf this course again.
Too much construction
Dump trucks unloading. Lots of noise. Many places torn up. More weeds than grass.
4 year transition ???
I think this course MIGHT even be worse than kokopelie, and things don't get much worse than that .
Might as well play in a construction zone
The entire course is under construction. There wasn’t a single hole where there wasn’t some kind of distraction. I probably counted at least 15 front loaders or some type of heavy machinery, dump truck etc. I literally teed off on 17 in between a dump truck and a frontloader you think they would stop working while you’re teeing off but nope. I’m surprised the workers haven’t been hit by a golf ball because they don’t even acknowledge that there is someone playing golf there. We were two of the few people on the course which is why pace of play was OK. I understand they’re trying to improve the course but they’re charging $15 more than courses nearby. At least drop your prices if you’re going to provide a garbage golf course.
