Ahwatukee Country Club
About
The sun shines 350 days a year in Phoenix and you can enjoy this factor at Ahwatukee Country Club. "Ahwatukee" is Crow Indian for "house of dreams", but this could easily be the "golf course of dreams".
The semi-private Ahwatukee Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course designed by John Bulla in 1974 that is open year-round and includes a driving range, as well as a cart included in the greens fee. The golf course is par-72 and measures 6,713 yards from the championship tees.
The Ahwatukee Country Club golf course features a fairly wide-open layout, but has out-of-bounds areas on either side of the fairways - including some with houses, so watch out for those windows - as well as water hazards on some holes. The putting greens play fast.
After a tight front nine on the Ahwatukee Country Club golf course, things open up on a razor-sharp par-4 dogleg 10th hole, with no chance to cut corners: there's a towering forest to the left.

We had fun, but issues must be addressed....
Pros: The greens (as long as you were not on the edge that was overgrown with weeds), were in really great shape. Putting was the most fun part of this course
Cons: Four of the holes has sprinklers going off in the middle of the fairway throughout our time playing the holes.
Fairways? No... Mudways would be more fitting.
Mud dunes littered alongside the greens and tee boxes
The tee boxes! Many looked like a mine had gone off - plus they are far from flat: choose your tee shot lie wisely. You either have a below your feet or above your feet lie off the tees.
Back to the fairways - standing water made it very swampy. However, most of the fairways were overgrown with weeds which was a preferrable lie compared to the lack of grass in the fairway at all.
Overgrown weeds sometimes made tee shots that landed in the fairway impossible to find.
Standing water in all sand traps making it muddy clay.
All that being said, my group had a fun time - we just adjusted some rules: If you land in a sand trap, you get free relief no further to the hole (If they cannot upkeep the fairways, the sand traps are certainly not kept up either); If you land your shot in the fairway and it lands in swampy mud water, you get free relief onto a preferrable lie no closer to the hole; If you land next to a sprinkler located in the middle of the fairway, you get free relief no close to the hole.
Although this 18-hole-round was $37ea, we all feel that we overpaid for this course in its current state
Don’t bother
Other than the greens, which were in pretty good shape, this course doesn’t look like it is ever watered. Most fairways had no grass on them, and there were dirt areas where the rough should be.
Despite the conditions, it was packed and we waited on all but about 10 shots the entire round.
Pro Level Greens
I've seen greens on the PGA tour that didn't look as well maintained. Tee boxes were good too, but the fairways need work and the layout was hard to follow at times.
Horrible customer service
We played this course on Father’s Day . I brought water with me because i knew it would be hot (114 degrees) . At the 10th hole, I ran out of water but knew the 12th hole had a water station. We arrived at the 12th hole and found that the water container was empty. I called the clubhouse and spoke to a female employee, who told me that someone should have filled the water jugs in the morning. I told her that the water jug was empty, I asked her if she had a cart girl on today or Marshal and she told me that they did not. She did advise that she would get someone to send us out some water. We made it to the 17th hole and not a single employee from the golf course came out and provided us with water, I knew the 17th hole was also a water station. When we got to the 17th hole, we realized that there was no water, the jug was empty. I called the clubhouse again and they said they would send somebody out but we all know how that turns out, again no one showed. We were on 18 halfway down the fairway when a rude/ P.O. Guy in a cart was heading towards us with a bucket of water. I waved at him, screamed at him, yelled at him, stood in front of him, and he literally drove past me without even stopping. The customer service at this golf course is absolutely horrible, and I will probably not go back. I try to support local golf courses and businesses, but when your customer service is absolutely horrible I can’t bring myself to spend money at your business.
Friendly staff. The best.
It is what it is. Great value and always enjoy the time.
Too wet
Course was in good condition except there was too much standing water. Sand traps were just mud.
Not Up To Par
The condition of this course has steadily declined year over year. Needs a good spring manicure and cleaning. Many years ago this
course was really nice. But that was years ago!!!!!
Improving course with some minor issues
Course is definitely improving but minor challenges. Loved the in cart GPS.
Early tee times are challenging as the entire front nine had active sprinklers that we had to dodge with one green having a quarter inch of water covering the green. Trash cans were overflowing with trash around every receptacle. Tees were covered with broken tees and hundreds of golf balls in the fairway near the driving range. Middle of the fairways had grass but lots of dirt patches.
