About
Foothills Golf Club offers 18 holes of golf on a golf course designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf and built in 1988. The par-72 golf course measures 6,901 yards. Foothills Golf Club sits among the South Mountains, and features a contrast of challenge and forgiveness on a links-style course that allows golfers to play a target layout that has more than 65 bunkers that daunt, fairways that roll and desert that has a lot of rocks. The fabulous championship golf course provides the locale for all levels of golfer to shoot a memorable day of golf.
After taking in the views of the South Mountains on the Foothills Golf Club's golf course, head back to the clubhouse, for wonderful vistas of the course and the Estrella Mountain Range.

Awful Greens
Greens are really really really bad. They must have some disease. Shame because it’s a good layout. Cant see them getting better anytime soon. They prob need to rip them out. Would def get a new greens keeper.
Have have the Greens gone?
The staff was friendly, the tee boxes in great shape and the fairways were great too. However, these were the worst greens. It looks like every green had some sort of disease that has killed the majority of the greens and left bare sports. To try and cover up the spots they spray painted the bare spots with a blue dye. Everyone you picked up your ball it was blue. The blue dye got all over your hands and shoes. The price would have been fine if the greens were just ok but for them to be this bad, they should have given a discount and could have told us checking in that the greens were in bad shape.

Good, but greens were terrible
Very nice course and overall facility. Everything was great except they lost the greens and they are terrible. Putted through muddy footprints on some holes. It looks like they are trying hard to regrow the greens. They have lowered the green fees for now, which was good.

This course was in pretty poor condition. Missing grass on the greens that was filled in with sand or something.
Overall, course was not in very good condition. Greens were splotchy with missing grass areas that they had filled in with sand, fare ways were okay, but difficult to hit out of that grass in spots. The facilities were okay, not a lot of people in there, though. Carts were new and ran great.

SHOCKED
Course was closed all summer and expected from a Troon course good to excellent conditions . Sad to say the greens are painted green with lots of sand and grass is very sparse if there is any . . The fairways are hit and miss some of the fairways were seeded good and others were hit and miss and some had very little rye grass on fairways. Bunkers had soft sand and were good . tee boxes were good mostly level. . Played 2 weeks in a row and there was no change in conditions. Scheduled for 3rd week but cancelled . When course was closed they removed a lot of brush which was good . Pace of play ist week was good just under 4 hours . Second week was 4 hrs 35 minutes too slow waited every hole . price was too much 67 dollars for course conditions . I would wait to play this course again until I see favorable reviews

Greens toast
Beautiful club house great staff at bag drop. Great initial start with driving range putting and starter. Assistant pro at pro shop had no personality. Course layout great greens are toast, mostly sand greens painted green. I would avoid playing this course for at least 2024.

Greens are a disaster
After playing a few less expensive courses, I decided to splurge for a higher priced "better" course. That was a big mistake. Whatever they attempted to do with the greens failed. Some greens were almost 50% painted green sand. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape - as what one would expect. The practice green was cut higher than most lawns but otherwise in good shape. Pace was slow but I played Sunday mid-morning so not unexpected. Staff were the bright part - very friendly and tried to lower everyone's expectations WRT the greens. Unfortunately, I would not recommend playing this course at the price they want until the greens are fixed but that might not be until next year.

Worst Greens in Az - Green Spray Paint EVERYWHERE. Disappointed as heck with Troon
After paying just under $80 in green fees 3 weeks early, I checked out some reviews a few days before hitting the course and was absolutely terrified by the recent reviews. I had my friend contact the golf shop and get more information, where he talked to the manager, Austin. Austin assured us that the reviews were completely “not true”. Austin mentioned that the course had just reopened and there may be some rough spots, but overall the course condition was great. We got to the first Teebox and seem pleasantly surprised, but when we made it to the first green, we noticed 80% of it was green sand.
Now I understand, courses can’t always be in perfect condition, but they were attempting to charge my friend $95 for a walk in tee-time. I have played “worse” courses in the SUMMER for $19 that had better greens.
At $40 winter time fee, I would have understood, & given 4-5 stars. But charging $95 for $30 course conditions is bonkers. Also they charged me for range balls, when I looked at my buddy’s receipt, range balls were free? Not sure why I paid $14 ON TOP OF MY GREEN FEE, if they are included?
Overall, we are VERY disappointed with the course conditions / price.
When I attempted to talk to manager Austin at the end he was gone, I hope they reach out to make this right.

It saddens me to write this because I’ve always liked this course, especially the layout. It was never in the best shape so I was excited to see what improvements had been made after the closure. Well, after playing 18 holes yesterday I still have no idea what they are. The course is in worse shape than I’ve ever seen it.
I can honestly say these are the worst greens I’ve ever played. Stunningly bad, arguably unplayable. Also, stop painting the grass. It’s half insulting, like putting lipstick on a pig. I’m sorry to be so harsh but seriously, Troon and the club itself should be ashamed. At the very, very least, there should be some kind of a warning given about the conditions to anyone booking a tee time. I feel ripped off, and I honestly don’t know when I’ll feel comfortable going back, if ever.

The course needs the greens to grow some grass on them!
This course has a nice layout. And I'm told it was shut down for six(6) months for reconditioning. Seems like they could have used a couple more months. The greens are horrible. Patches of grass and patches of sand covered with green iron oxide to promote grass growth. Nice paint job!

Poor conditions
We were excited to play the “NEW” course. Very disappointed. Greens were horrid to say the least. The course wasn’t new at all. To pay $65 for a $20 dollar course was insulting. They should have waited another month before reopening. Won’t hurry back!!!

Conditions still not great
With all the money and nearly 6 months of closure you’d expect the course to have dramatic improvements over the past. However the greens are still extremely fresh with many large spaces of little to no grass. The fairways are starting to come in from overseed, but patches are barren like mid summer and looks like no work was done to them during the closure. Only real visible change is the weeds have been scraped out of the desert areas.

If I were Troon I’d run away, this course is beyond a lost cause. The audacity to charge what they do to putt on Plinko boards is shocking. It’s sad when the starter warned us about how the renovations didn’t turn out. For the prices they are charging go to a city of Phoenix course.

We have recently experienced poorer than normal water quality, obvious extreme weather, which combined with an early overseed has seriously impacted the turf. We acknowledge that it is not at its best right now, but please rest assured that we are actively working to improve it.
Our team is implementing necessary maintenance and updates to ensure that the course regains its quality and playability. We have re-seeded and are using alternative water sources to rectify the issues asap. We are committed to providing you with a great golfing experience, and we anticipate that improvements will be noticeable in the very near future.
To repay you for your loyalty and patience, we will be hosting a 4-person Scramble tournament including golf, food, and prizes to the first 144 golfers for $25 each in the month of January. Stay tuned for further details via email marketing, course website, and social media posts.
