Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
About
Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Golfer Reviews
Camelback Ambiente
Good little track. I found the GPS to be off a little but that's not a big deal. If you can play with a local, it will help on a few holes. Course was in great shape considering they just had record rainfall 4 days earlier. Pace was slower than I'm used to, right at 5 hours. Fun course, a must play.
Not woth the hype
I understand they spent $10MM recently on this course. Not too sure where they put the money. For the price, even for summer rates, I would have rather gone to many of the other course options around Scottsdale. Felt the course was a simple upgrade from other public courses. I was not impressed.
Good not great
Course was so hard you couldn't put a tee in the ground.
Links golf in the desert
We enjoyed the course as it has a nice mix of holes long and short. All three of us are single digit Hdcp. I believe that with the higher handicappers playing in the winter, play will slow down dramatically with people looking for balls in the "Native Grass". The use of the GPS is critical to managing the course.
my new favorite
Ambiente is the jewel of central Phoenix! you will use just about every club in your bag..requires precise drives and approach shots..bogeys are easy if you stay in the fairways ! get in the traps or native grass and a double bogey is very possible. The condition of the course is hard to believe for Aug/ Sept in the valley.. greens are fast and true ,fairways lush ..
SLOOOOOWWWW PACE OF PLAY
Played Ambiente course. The course in good condition;greens firm rolls smooth, fairways good, tee's box need cutting. AWFUL PACE OF PLAY. COURSE MARSHAL were USELESS! !! AFRAID TO MOVE SLOOOOOWWWW GROUP.
different course
interesting changes made to this course. very challenging off the tee box with lots of fairway traps and grasses. Accuracy is important. If u like unusual courses in AZ u need to play this one
Fun and Challenging Track
I was very impressed with the layout and condition of the course. It has some elements of links golf and plays very hard and fast as a proper links course should. You have to make sure you land your approaches well short of the hole or you will find the back of the green. It will be fun to watch the course mature but even as it stands it is already a formidable challenge.
v.nice design changes
Overall experience v.good, greens hard, very hot day, staff was excellent. Not much shade on course if hot.
great balance of features- water, bunkers and rough but playable from different tees
overall course is in wonderful shape- Tee boxes and fairways , the best in town, bunkers also great - greens need another week or so to be perfect. Can`t wait to play again!!!!
Pace of play
It doesn't matter how nice a course is, pace of play will ruin the day. This is an interesting new design, and could be a lot of fun. Unfortunately there wasn't a marshal to be seen on the entire course. The pace was brutally slow and no one in the shop seemed to care. I guess when people stop playing management will blame Tiger Woods or some other made up reason. Enforce a reasonable pace of play and people will play, force them to sit in their golf carts for 5+ hours and they'll find something else to do.
Get a "deal" and don't pay full value
I paid a great "hot deal" as a single. I was paired with a 3some on a hot summer week day. There was no starter so I waiting on the tee box for my group to show. After 5-7min after our tee time I just went. There was no one in front for a couple holes and I played a couple-three balls. Eventually caught up and it slowed to crawl waiting on every shot. Threesome caught up. The holes are somewhat repetitive. Much like the old course, you go out one side and come back the other. I can't imagine paying a full winter green fee for this course.
Take extra balls
If you miss the fairway at all, be prepared to use a new ball. The long grass just off the fairway makes it impossible to find them.
Overall, the course was in good shape. the greens were a bit dry, but it is summer.
I prefer desert courses to links style, so my review may be somewhat biased.
beautiful track
Beautiful course. A little on the difficult side, but everything was in great condition; even for being in summer when courses typically dry out. My favorite part was some of the fescue rough makes it feel like you're playing in England.
Good
Good course and well kept. A different sight than you would expect to find in the desert. Greens were soft, fairly quick and bumpy as they heal from aeration. Fun challenge close to town.
Great course but difficult
Amazing course and layout, be prepared to lose golf balls.
Very nice design. Make your shots count.
I really enjoyed this course. You must make your shots. stay out of the flowers, it is a pentalty. Well placed bunkers. I know there is a lot of complaining about this course, but this is just because they didn't play well. Course management is important. This Is A Must Play.
