The executive golf course at Mountain Shadows Golf Club in addition to being an excellent course has the added benefit of having a picturesque location nestled in the foothills of Camelback Mountain, and it also offers views of the equally majestic Mummy Mountains. The oleanders and palm trees sprinkled throughout the course enhance the pleasant atmosphere. The golf course's 18th hole boasts beautiful views of the sunset during the twilight hours but the signature hole is the par-3 12th hole. It plays uphill toward Camelback Mountain and over a pond and brook to a double-tiered green that is well protected by bunkers.

Par 3 Golf

Par 3 golf is fun to play. Played course in 2.5 hours.

Distance between holes 17 and 18 is too far when you are walking. Houses take priority over golf design.

So much fun, new and different!

I absolutely love the new design. The new owners did a great job of mixing new modern design with classic Mt. Shadows golf.

The Pro-shop is fantastic and the views can't be beat. Great test of skill as most of the greens, being their only real defense, were very undulated. Not ll, as it is a good mix of challenge and fairness.

I don't understand who couldn't love this track. It is a refreshing change of pace from the "normal" courses. A great, quick break from the "norm".

Golf staff were great, Rusty's (I believe that was the name) was a great place to catch the sunset and have some cocktails.

It did help that I was able to even out the bet on a "press" on the wager hole, which was a pleasant design and a great concept.

Do listen to the "old school" people, this is a new and refreshing change to the sport and the lifestyle!

The old course only had 2 maybe 3 par 4's.

I personally love the redesign, it is a new and different look at the game we all love. I welcome new and innovative ideas in the sport!

Nice views but that's it

This newly opened renovation is trying to hard to be unique. Way too many gimicky greens... miniature golf stuff.

Holes 13 and 14 share a green with 14 hitting backwards... weird!

The greens are new so I guess you can forgive the terrible shape they were in. The best green was the silky wager green between 17&18. All the others were bumpy and impossible to read.

Overpriced for two at $100. No reason to return.

I have to disagree. I thought the course was very fun, unique and a good test of short game and putting. When a course's only defense is it's greens, they have to be somewhat difficult.

I loved the course, thought it was very fun and played 18 in 2.5 hours in the middle of a Friday!

Excellent 2 hour course

Great spot to hone your skills, don't be fooled thinking this is an amateur course as it's challenging. Tough pin placements and you can get in trouble quick if you miss a shot. Love this course and it will be on my regular list to hone my short game.

They ruined the origial course

The redesigned course destroyed the original Mountain Shadows course. They replaced the fairways with gravel leaving only the tee boxes and around the greens with grass. Being the redesigned course is new, the greens are very slow and bumpy the little grass left around the greens is lumpy. I would not recommend to anyone to play this course for at least another year.

Thank you for playing the new Short Course at Mt. Shadows and we appreciate your feedback. The course has been updated and is different from the original. The greens are interesting, fun and improve every day as they mature. We hope to see you again soon. We think you'll enjoy it.

Fun track!

Really had an enjoyable round on this new course! Nice to be able to complete 18 holes in about 2.5 hours. Great layout and plenty of challenges. Staff was fantastic and pre and post time spent at Rusty's Bar and looking around this new property added to the great day. Will certainly be back soon and let everyone know of this little jewel in the desert.

Very disappointing

This was my first time playing mountain shadows after the renovation. Didn't have much expectations going in but overall it was a very disappointing experience. Staff was extremely aggressive when I first arrived, the old lady at the front desk was rude when I asked if there was a discounted rate for people who live in the community. Greens were in terrible condition and the overall design of the course was overkill. I get they try to make it a quirky par 3 course but they tried way too hard with the layout and slopes of the greens. Not worth $60! Even for a so called "resort course". The only bright spot of the round was the cart girl who was very friendly and had a good variety of beer. Also, the clubhouse had a great view with billards table to play on after your round.

Just pure fun

The recently reborn Short Course at Mountain Shadows has one thing missing from most golf experiences these days--it's just fun to play. Suitable for all skill levels, with great food and drink at the resort to boot. I played with my beginner wife who had a great time and we completed the round in less than two hours. Highly recommended!

The Best Short Course in AZ

Wow - totally blown away by the remodel to Mountain Shadows! They did an outstanding job recreating the holes, while adding a bunch more character and style. It was in excellent shape, and the staff there was very friendly and excited about the future the property holds. Be sure to check out the hotel there, too, as it matches the beauty of the course - simply stunning. Great courses to play if you're sneaking out of work early, are with the family, or are just looking for a fun and challenging round that you can play in 2.5 hours. This is going to be a regular stop for my group! Great job and congrats to everyone involved in the remake of this club - you did an excellent job! Perfect blend of retro and modern in a golf course.

Beautiful TINY course

Beautiful course but shorter that most short courses we've played on. Course undulations make for good chipping and putting practise.

Poor value for the price!

Other reviews were glowing so our foursome's expectations were high. From the minute we drove onto the property they dwindled. Construction everywhere, pro shop was a disaster, dust/dirt/detours, and for $50/person this was very disappointing! Course was interesting and the views were nice, but not spectacular. Tee boxes were top-notch but the greens were terrible for this price - bumpy and slow! And the fringe was gouged - mowed very unevenly.

With these conditions the fair price would have been more like $30 - $35. We walked and it's a very walkable layout with interesting holes - a few blind shots into gimmicky greens but, hey that's golf and a few surprises are OK. The staff tried valiantly but the construction & conditions were unacceptable for that price. We won't be coming back and we won't be recommending this place to anyone else!

Fun For All

My. Shadows is a vintage course that has been completely redone over the past two years. It is an executive course with extremely challenging hole selections, rolling terrain, and slick and undulating greens. This course is fun for beginners and a real challenge for those concerned with their end score. Beautiful scenery is a highlight of this course. This an amazing remake of a tired but beautiful and classic old course.

Not a relaxing round

I am an avid golfer and have golfed every kind of course you can imagine.

But this course is the most unusual course I have golfed.

First of all, I have to say that the course was in great shape and the staff was friendly.

It turned out that going from par 3 to par 3 was not very relaxing, it felt very rushed.

And only 1 cart per foursome, which I get, but it was very confusing about who would drive versus walk. And cart path only left the driver putting last.

And the black tee box markers all looks the same, which was also confusing.

Lastly, there is no shade.

I love the concept, but actually golfing the course was not enjoyable.

Very nice for an executive course

Nice facilities and course, especially for an executive course. It has been our experience that executive courses are not at the level of above average 18 standard courses. However, Mountain Shadows is! It was a fun place to play, and we will be back.
