Mountain Shadows Golf Course
About
The executive golf course at Mountain Shadows Golf Club in addition to being an excellent course has the added benefit of having a picturesque location nestled in the foothills of Camelback Mountain, and it also offers views of the equally majestic Mummy Mountains. The oleanders and palm trees sprinkled throughout the course enhance the pleasant atmosphere. The golf course's 18th hole boasts beautiful views of the sunset during the twilight hours but the signature hole is the par-3 12th hole. It plays uphill toward Camelback Mountain and over a pond and brook to a double-tiered green that is well protected by bunkers.

Changed course but had fun!
First of all my wife and I were impressed by how friendly everyone was! We hadn't played this course since it was redone, and kind of wish they had left it alone. However, we ended up having a great time on a well maintained course. A great way to work on your short game, and except for two holes with a confusing green layout it is well done. One last thing if you have never been there: look for a big white building while driving down the street and that is it. If you get lost like us ask a security guard at one of the gates.
Not as easy as expected
Beautiful course. Greens in excellent shape. Tried course as I am rehabbing from knee replacement. As a par 3 course, it is somewhat challenging. Course has water and bunker hazards. Good for me, bunkers are not deep. What makes the course challenging for a par 3 are the greens which were not only fast but the actual hole sat on rolling greens which I found deceiving. Bottle water is provided. Playing again in a few days. Beautiful scenery. The water hazards contain blue water which I discovered keep down the algae but I also think it keeps birds and some insects at bay.
Thank you for the 5 star review! We look forward to your next visit.
SunRidge is not to be missed.
This course is a treat and not to be missed.
Anyone will tell you it's challenging, but the beauty and interesting course design makes it all worth it. I typically shoot about a 105. I once shot a 112 at SunRidge and just about called Sports Illustrated. The last holes, "The Wicked Six," are as the name implies, but beautiful, fun, and good exercise--four of them are uphill.
Another thing I love about this course is the golf carts. They have audio/visual, which really helps you play the hole. Small detail, but for this course, especially, super helpful. Also a great club house and fun happy hour scene. Outdoor patio has fabulous views, cafe lights, torchieres for colder days.
Enjoy your round at SunRidge!
Nice par three course
Nice well maintained 18 hole par 3 course. Friendly staff. Will play again
Really Fun Course
I have a soft spot in my heart for short tracks, but this one was different. It has all the amenities and flash of a high-end resort property in Scottsdale, but with a short, fun, exciting par 3 course. The greens and their surrounds will give you some headaches, but in a good way. Because of the summer, the greens were slow, but they were true and rolled great. Looking forward to playing in season when they're slick - this course will give you everything you've got! Great staff, great outdoor bar, the best tee boxes I've seen in Phoenix, and you can buzz through in about 2 hours if you're taking your time. I loved it, and will absolutely be back!
Short Course
This course was built the year I was born and is in amazing condition!! As a self-taught golfer, this course helps me improve!! I did par for times
Thank you for the review and we look forward to seeing you many times to come.
Sad Version of what it was!
Before its destruction, Mtn. Shadows was a beautiful scenic, somewhat quaint executive golf course. It had beautiful trees, grass, colorful bushes and it had "atmosphere." Whomever redesigned it as "Eco-friendly" certainly knew nothing about golf courses.Between the tee and the green are long yardages of gravel. The whole course looks drab. Oh, to give some challenge on about 4 or 5 of the holes, they added huge hills, just as if it previously were a dump and they had to hide the trash. This course had class. Years ago I was a member for 10 years. I will never go there again and am passing the word to everyone I know. and will try to erase this ugly memory from my mind.
Yes, Mountain Shadows has been completely renovated with an eye to the future. There is less grass from tee to green which reduces water needed in non-play areas. The greens are interesting with a variety of pin placement options and fun for both beginner and experienced golfers alike. We are adding some plantings from tee to green to add some color. Thank you for playing and we hope you will try us again as the course matures.
The new Short Course
Mountain Shadows used to be an executive course. I'm not sure what it would be called now except very short . none of the holes were long and there wetre way too many that were 50,60, 70 yards for the front tees. Some of the greens were very challenging. The staff were all very nice. Not my kind of course any more though.
Thank you for playing The Short Course. It's totally been renovated to be enjoyable and fun with hole lengths from 75 to 195 from the back tees. The 18 hole par 3 course fits the definition of an executive course by being shorter relative to a standard course, comprised primarily of par 3 holes. If anyone is looking for a 2 1/2 hour round of golf with interesting greens and beautiful views, we're a great choice.
Great Remodel
First time playing here since course was closed for a major remodel. They did an excellent job. Friendly staff. Great short game tuneup on this all par 3 executive short course.
Thank you for playing the new Short Course. It's a quick, fun and challenging round of golf.
Great Executive Par 3
Course is well maintained. Pace of play was great no waiting between holes. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Beautiful surroundings and they did a great on re-designing the course
Thank you for the 5 star review!
More like a Pitch & Putt
Disappointed. The only challenging holes had gimmicky greens. We ended up skipping some holes near the end because it didn't seem to be worth the effort.
Thank you for playing and the input. The course has been completely renovated including brand new bunkers and greens. Being 18 par 3's with lengths from 190 to 75 yards, the goal is a quick, fun round in 2.5 hours with different and exciting green complexes. The most stunning views in Paradise Valley.
Totally disappointed
Was thoroughly disappointed in the whole course--layout, condition of the greens, the so-called improvements, the reverse green etc etc! The course was much prettier 4 years ago! I have canvas prints made from snapshots on my wall to prove it! Also there was an awful sewer smell where the bag drop was located.
Thank you for your input. We are sorry you didn't enjoy the new layout. The course was totally renovated with new and interesting greens and a goal of a quick and fun round for both experienced and beginners alike.
Par 3 Golf
Par 3 golf is fun to play. Played course in 2.5 hours.
Distance between holes 17 and 18 is too far when you are walking. Houses take priority over golf design.
So much fun, new and different!
I absolutely love the new design. The new owners did a great job of mixing new modern design with classic Mt. Shadows golf.
The Pro-shop is fantastic and the views can't be beat. Great test of skill as most of the greens, being their only real defense, were very undulated. Not ll, as it is a good mix of challenge and fairness.
I don't understand who couldn't love this track. It is a refreshing change of pace from the "normal" courses. A great, quick break from the "norm".
Golf staff were great, Rusty's (I believe that was the name) was a great place to catch the sunset and have some cocktails.
It did help that I was able to even out the bet on a "press" on the wager hole, which was a pleasant design and a great concept.
Do listen to the "old school" people, this is a new and refreshing change to the sport and the lifestyle!
Thanks for the great comments!
course was way too short need par 4's and 5's
Enjoyed the old course much more didn't care for all par 3 holes and pro shop too modern looking like the old one better . I tried the new course but won't return. Good luck
The old course only had 2 maybe 3 par 4's.
I personally love the redesign, it is a new and different look at the game we all love. I welcome new and innovative ideas in the sport!
Nice views but that's it
This newly opened renovation is trying to hard to be unique. Way too many gimicky greens... miniature golf stuff.
Holes 13 and 14 share a green with 14 hitting backwards... weird!
The greens are new so I guess you can forgive the terrible shape they were in. The best green was the silky wager green between 17&18. All the others were bumpy and impossible to read.
Overpriced for two at $100. No reason to return.
I have to disagree. I thought the course was very fun, unique and a good test of short game and putting. When a course's only defense is it's greens, they have to be somewhat difficult.
I loved the course, thought it was very fun and played 18 in 2.5 hours in the middle of a Friday!
Excellent 2 hour course
Great spot to hone your skills, don't be fooled thinking this is an amateur course as it's challenging. Tough pin placements and you can get in trouble quick if you miss a shot. Love this course and it will be on my regular list to hone my short game.
