About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in May 2019.
ASU Karsten Golf Course features a Pete and Perry Dye-designed links-style course characterized by design features that challenge, such as Dye's mounding and bunkering - making it important to pick the right golf clubs if you don't want to run up that score. Big-name PGA and LPGA Tour golfers like Phil Mickelson, Billy Mayfair and Grace Park have all played this course.
ASU Karsten Golf Course offers several holes one could call "signature," such as the short par-4 fourth, the tough par-4 ninth, the daunting par-3 16th (248 yards from the tips) and the challenging par-4 final hole. The water on the left side is the reason this is called one of Arizona's most difficult finishers.
After a round at the ASU Karsten Golf Course, check out the 21,000-square-foot Sun Angel Clubhouse, which tempts players with its Southwestern and American fare in the Trophy Room.

Going to Miss Playing Here
The staff is great here. Course plays pretty easy as long as you keep it off the mounds and out of the traps. Greens were a little slower than many of the high end courses, but typical of courses in the same price range. Fairways were decent for winter, but again, not as well manicured as many others are in the area. I still think it is a solid value. Going to miss this place when they close it down.
The course is a dog track. Not worth the money!
This course is way over priced. It was not in the best of shape--greens had tons of ball marks, grass off the fairway was in poor condition. You can't see the fairways or hole from the tee which slows pace down considerably. Would never play here again or recommend it to anyone.
Good value for the money
Staff was very helpful and friendly in all areas of facility
This course is not for beginner.
This course has lots of slope and is quite challenging.
Great Challenge!
This course has got it all! Play from the back "professional" tees and you are sure to be challenged! Solid all around golf experience I would recommend to anyone!
Rolling hills and fast greens
The course is a challenging test of skill. Need to keep it on the short grass to score well, as the rough will punish you. Overall an enjoyable round . Would definitely play again.
Course has great features
Rough was dense because of overseeding.Must hit the fairway or else you will play sidehill lies all day.Layout is beautiful.
Nice course
Typical Pete Dye course, lots of hills & very tight fairways. Very nice course @ ASU Campus.
Good track
Really nice course with friendly staff. Only complaint was pace of play. Terribly slow group two groups in front of us and ranger drove by them multiple times without saying anything.
Watch out for the rough!
Its that time of year, when the rough has grown before overseeding. Keep your eye on tee shots because it can sink to the bottom and make it difficult to see, unless you walk right over it! Greens were rolling well despite the heat the past couple of days. Sad to see that this course will be going away.
Great layout!
Have always loved playing here!! Look forward to playing it again soon.
1st imer
i have always wanted to play this course due to the HISTORY associated with the course... It did not disappoint .. pace of play very good. . Marshall on site(nice) cart girl always there (a PLUS).. Well maintained thru-out.. greens consistent. .Will play AGAIN..
Awesome layout
Too bad this course is closing becu=ause with it they are closing some great traditions with it.
Fun course
Course was great, though we had three different carts die on us stranding us on the course. To their credit, Karsten didn't hesitate to bring out replacements each time. Staff at the snack bar on the turn weren't very nice but the cart girl was great. Cart guys were very nice.
Tough features
This course is in excellent condition. The main thing to watch for is going off the fairways. Moguls throughout the course. Some could be higher than 6 feet. Its a challenge.
First time at Karsten
This was the first time playing the course and with it being in the middle of the summer and the temps around 108 degrees the course was in great shape and the staff were super friendly.
ASU Karsten
This was the second time I played the ASU Karsten Course. I really enjoy playing this course. The greens were not as good as the previous time I played the course, but it might have something to do with trying to maintain them during the typical summer weather in Phoenix. July and August obviously aren't their busiest months. Anyway, I enjoyed the course and look forward to coming back again and again.
Karsten must stay!
ASU golf is amazing , course condition was topnotch, wear a collared shirt even on the hottest day. Hit em straight.
Great staff
Club house staff is very efficient and friendly and if your a sun devil fan nice selection of golf accessories.
another Pete Dye course
WELL I DO NOT LIKE DYE COURSES HE DOES NOT REWARD YOU FOR A GOOD SHOT WITH UNLEVEL FAIRWAYS, SLOPES THAT CAUSE BALL TO ROLL OFF FAIRWAY INTO GRASS BUNKERS AND SAND TRAPS.
THE COURSE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE GREENS WERE A LITTLE BUMPY AND FAST.
PLAY WAS SLOW THEY HAD A LOT OF PLAYERS EVEN THOUGH IT WAS 108 WITH A LITTLE WIND. BIG STORM HIT AFTER WE FINISHED.
