Golfer Reviews
Another wonderful round
Laguna never fails as my favorite course on the Monterey peninsula. Perfect weather there when other Monterey area courses are overcast Laguna is usually sunny. Best value of play in area. Course is always in good to great condition..
New favorite
I have lived here for just over 2 years, and my first time to play this jewel. Great track with nice elevation changes, par 71, Robert Jones Trent designed, just plan fun. Great bang for the buck!
Maintenance needed
Course is fun to play, and pace of play is very good. The fairways are really bumpy and there are bare spots and weeds all over the place. Some of the greens look very stressed. If you can get a deal on the tee time it would be worth the money, though.
Wonderful round
My faith in course etiquette has been renewed. My buddy is in town for 3 days and we booked Laguna on a Saturday which I try to never do, weekend golf. We stood on the first tee and watched 4 tee shots not close to the fairway. Candidly, at that point you think here comes a 5 plus hour round. We were a twosome and both hit good tee shots so we are wedging the green. We get waived forward and thank the guys profusely. We played ready golf through the rest of the front nine. We get to the back nine and have a group of 5 in the middle of fairway. They are very slow and we are waived up on 10 green, we once again play ready golf, even though the course was reasonably full and we play 18 holes in 3 hours 10 minutes. Great day.
overall - nice day !!
finished in 4 1/2 hours due to a slow group in front of us - greens were in great shape. Bunkers could use some sand. No pin location info was negitive.
Fun
This course is not overly demanding. Provides challenges that don't beat you down. Great vistas. Will play again, and again.
Perfect Middle Spot
It's simple, this place is not your Pebble Beach/Spyglass, nor is it your cheap local golf course tucked up and around a trailer park/major highway.
The course is nestled nicely in the middle of CA-68 and very rarely are you hugged up against the road. It is VERY easy. The only thing causing hesitation are a few doglegs (which could be cut with the right swing) and basically every hole has a bunker in the front left and right side of the green. The course is also pretty short, if you are a bogey golfer or better, have some fun and play from the tips.
Overall the conditions were great. It was not burnt up, the greens rolled great, and the fairways were pretty well kept.
The staff won't lend any kind of niceties to you. You come in, check in, go on your way. No small talk here. For me, I am ok with that. I'll chat with the people I am out playing with.
Pace of play
Normally we can finish our game in about 3 hrs for 2 players. This time it took 4hrs 20 mins because there was a flight of 5 players in front of us. We suggest that a flight should be limited to max of 4 players.
Fun Course in Monterey
Was looking for a quick morning round while in the area, and this course came highly rec on this site. It did not disappoint. Fast pace, great conditions for the price. Got a deal on golfnow.com. Strategic golf, fairly forgiving, quick greens, lots of fun. No ocean views, but very nice little track. And the food in the restaurant is GREAT!
Harder than it looks
Good test of golf. Some very hard greens to hit as some lack depth and are hard surfaces. Rough around the greens makes it harder to score than the yardage indicates. Very friendly staff and was uncrowded. Always seem to get several double bogeys here that seem avoidable.
Tony Bennett-I left my heart in MONTEREY
The day started out before 7am with fog which was a none factor by hole 3. Course was in top shape. Had the luxury of World Super Bike sounds in the back ground on some holes being that the course is next to Laguna Seca Raceway that weekend. Being 64 I like shooting hilly courses which we have a lot in California. I would 100 o/o recommend this course. There are NO homes that even remotely come into play on this course. The greens were super nice an a little fast which made it more fun. Put this one on your list...
Laguna Seca is great
Very helpful staff
Course in excellent condition
Great restaurant
Beautiful Setting
We visited from Arizona and enjoyed the grass-covered hills surrounding the course. The fairways are "fair", and the greens are very good. The front nine is easy, while the back nine is more challenging. A good value for this area. Food in the restaurant was very good.
