The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

Course is in great shape. Greens are smooth, could be faster but good condition overall

Food service was not great but course is worth playing

Bayonet used to be a course worth playing. The prestige and history of this once great facility was worthy of the praise and acclaim it received as it should. People are still flying in from Asia for the weekend to play here and at some of the other great courses in the Monterey area as they should the layout and playability is among the best in all of California. Unfortunately to find it in this condition should be very unsettling. What happened to the beautiful white sand bunkers, impeccably manicured and kept greens, lush fairways. For the weekend rate the current conditions are just unexceptionable there is currently no putting green to use, the driving was open but with a club demo day being held with limited stalls to hit from. I had was a foursome with 3 first time visitors and we showed up 1 hour early and had to wait for people hitting balls that were not even playing that day. The pictures used to “lure” us in are from years ago and just after it rained in spring nothing like what the course actually looks like today. The names associated with this once amazing work of art should be ashamed.

Played in 3hrs and 50 min. Great...

Fairways in good shape but thin in spots like the greens. Good though.

Pro shop said the golf now rate of $79 was wrong so we got charged $5.00 xtra for range balls we didn't ask for or use.. Wrf? Not cool...

But still a good day.

Before I thought that the greens were cut too short—which they were. This time is was much better. Every facet of the course is at least “good”. Carts are great, staff is informative and friendly. One of my favorite cheaper Monterey courses to play.

The greens were freshly aerated and some of the fairways were punched, making the round a little difficult. And most of bunkers were like hitting off concrete. Still had fun, but a little expensive considering the conditions.

Had a day off on our Road Trip and spontaniously played Bayonet. Course was in very good condition an pace of play was good (3 1/2 hours in a twosome with buggy but behind a foursome) and the layout is very nice. Some very challanging holes (played from the back tees) and some risk an reward ones.

Only downer was the price for rental clubs. I was shocked by that. Charged 75$ per set and it was all Callaway but with mixed shafts. Some stiff, some regular one even A. That was nearly the same amount as the greenfee including buggy, so way out of line. That is why the overall rating is not 5 stars. So, if you have your own clubs, great course to play, if you are on vacation without your clubs, then think twice.

Extremely good course, layout is absolutely fantastic and challenges all types of golfers. Very tight tree lined course but very picturesque. The practise area one of the best I’ve seen.

Only thing that lets it down is they have allowed construction for houses to be built on the majority of the front 9 so lots and lots of building work up and down about 8 of the holes. Other than that it’s worth a drive to play for sure. Bring your A game though as it’s very tough.

Overall everything was great, only down side was the rental clubs. They were ok, but 75$ for one set is quite heavy…

Title says it all. I was pleased with the course and price I paid.

WARNING: when on the driving range you will be routinely bothered by over-anxious staff to the point of being obnoxious.

No complaints. Wish I brought my .22. Ground squirrels were too tame.
