The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

Solid Course

Good price with GolfNow and well worth the hour drive. Had a 7:40 tee time so we finished in 3+30, but had to fight 30 minutes of light fog. Course was in great shape. I really enjoyed the round but didn’t play it well.

Not again anytime soon

Was looking for a Friday tee time, and this place seemed wide open. Should have known why.

$92 for a golf course in such poor shape is borderline criminal. I understand the place may have history but its in desperate need of an influx of capital to update course conditions. Was hoping for a good time as the staff seemed very friendly. But, Tee boxes were trashed, fairway and rough splotchy with leaves everywhere. Greens were OK, not fast but rolled decent with so many ball marks around. Starter made a point to tell me how hard this was and I should plan to lose a dozen balls. It was not hard at all. The layout could be really good with serious maintenance, manicuring and upkeep. Until that happens- hard pass.

For an extra $15 go play southern dunes and enjoy your round

Poor course conditions and slow play

If you like 5+ hours rounds and poor conditions, then this course if for you. My wife and I were paired with two singles. Both of them could not take the waiting on each shot and quit early.

Thankfully it was an absolutely beautiful day!!!!

Not your typical Florida resort course

It’s a fun track! Lots of elevation changes and the greens are tough. Staff is always friendly and the course is in slightly above average shape.

Pace of play is always slow and greens are a little beat up from so much play. Would be nice if the greens were faster too but I wouldn’t call them slow. This is one of those places that would be world class if they had the money to dump into it

Everyone should play it once

If you like very uphill greens, try this course!

Beautiful Championship layout with several downhill drives leading to very very uphill greens. Not friendly for golfers who usually reach greens in rolling the ball. (My wife is a 17 handicap but played way over 100 because of the difficulty to reach those uphill greens.) I found the greens challenging and hard to read but the speed was perfect. The round took 4 hours and 40 minutes to play with an 11:00 o’clock tee time on a Tuesday, waiting on every single shots. But I definitely would like to play El Campeon again on a day with calmer winds and with a better pace of play.

Oh, several bunkers would need more and better quality sand considering the quality of this course!

First time playing this course

Very nice golf course -great layout-pace of play on the slow side. Our cart went dead on the 4th hole. We had to let 2 groups play ahead which made the round 5 hours. But would try again.

It’s ok

Old course with a nice layout. Starter was very nice. Pro shop staff did nothing to make you feel welcome. Cart guys had nothing to say. The worst conditioned driving range I’ve ever seen. Fairways were fair at best. Greens were in great shape. Lots of elevated greens. Overpriced by about $20 in my opinion. Not likely to return.

Great course, Ridiculous price.

My friends and I have been playing El Campeon and Las Colinas for the last 10 years. We are in Lakeland and it's about an hour drive but we would play 5 or 6 times a year when it was affordable in the summer but this year the price was not lower in the summer. Even though it's been one of the hottest summers and noone's out there after lunch time. They aren't the only course to change their summer rates. Golf is becoming unaffordable at any time. I moved here to play more golf but now I have to do it on a few local less expensive muni courses and still can't afford to play every week. It sucks.

Teed off over an hour late and never finished.

My friend and I take a golf trip to Orlando Florida every year and after hearing great things from multiple people about Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course we decided we would make the one hour drive to play the course. With sun setting just after 7PM we booked a 2:20PM tee time to ensure we could finish the round. Upon arriving to the tee box we saw a line of about four foursomes yet to tee off. After speaking with the ranger we were told that there was a large group of people in front of us for an event that had to tee off before us. By the time we got to tee off it was around 3:30pm and unfortunately we were only able to finish 16 holes. I honestly do not know how a golf course can miss manage tee times this poorly, especially considering there were two groups behind us that had tee times as well. This was very disappointing to say the least and it was a complete waste of time and money. No refunds, rebooks, or any other accommodations were offered. It is a shame because the golf course had a unique and fun layout as well as being in good shape but considering how this all unfolded I would not be back and I suggest people stay away.

Worth the drive

El Campeón is a great course, and worth the 1-hour drive from Orlando. If you want a challenge, beyond the normal flat Florida courses, this is a great place to try.

Staff is always friendly. The course is in very good shape from tee to green.

The only downside is the 8-minutes between tee times, which contributes to a slower pace of play. We were right about 4 1/2 hours.

Must Play

El Campeon the more difficult of the two courses at Mission Inn is a must play. Hard to believe this course was designed decades ago. You have elevation holes you normally don't find in Florida. You have par 3's over water. The #1 handicapped 17th hole is a challenge. Par 5 with a "S" shaped fairway approach shot over water and a big tree blocking your shot to the green if you place your 2nd shot in the wrong place. A must see. In great condition, fast greens some slanted. Many tournaments pro & amateur held throughout the year. Many outings too! Three fantastic restaurants. Great food. Did I mention it's also a resort with other amenities to where you can stay and play.

Very frustrating

It is very disappointing to report that the customer experience at Mission inn is completely unacceptable

I used to love this place, my wife and I spent a long weekend here playing golf and getting spa treatments for our 19th anniversary a few years ago and had a great experience

Over the summer I played El Campeon at least once a week

Every time was very enjoyable & I am happy to pay for good service at a good golf course.

The problem is the last few times I’ve played the pace of play heads been consistently very slow with 0 rangers.

One time two drunk idiots were about to fist fight, we called the pro shop they said they’d send out the ranger…no ranger ever came out

The most recent time I was out to play several groups of Jr golfers were playing practice rounds for an upcoming tournament and had total disregard for other groups in the course. We called the pro shop to let them know they were playing several balls on each hole. They said they’d send out a red ranger and guess what… no ranger ever came after taking 3 1/2 hours to play 10 holes we had to give up.

It’s extremely upsetting because it is a very nice golf course and has the potential to be great if the management put customer service as a priority

It’s too bad because these experiences is going to cause this golf course to lose out on $200+ of weekly revenue from me
