The Plantation Golf Club - Cranes Roost Course
About
The Cranes Roost Course is one of two championship courses at the Plantation at Leesburg. This semi-private golf course features dramatic elevation changes of up to 170 feet. The hilly terrain provides rolling fairways and undulating greens. Water hazards also come into play through much of the golf course, providing further challenge. The Cranes Roost Course accommodates golfers of all skill levels, but it can be especially challenging if taken too casually. In addition to the two golf courses, the Plantation at Leesburg offers a practice facility for golfers to work on their short game as well as a pro shop and staff of golf professionals.

Plantation golf
The course was in much better shape overall than I was expecting. The front nine was in better shape than the back nine. But still overall, it was surprisingly good. The only thing that was a bummer was that the course was way overbooked and the pace of play was amongst the worst I’ve ever experienced.
Mediocre conditions at best
Conditions of the tees, fairways and greens were mediocre at best. It was just about worth ($33 for 18 with cart) what i paid with my 30% off GN February code.
Hidden gem
Very nice course pace of play is very fast and the staff is nice
Better than expected
Because of the persistent drought conditions and the recent cold temps, I thought the course would be distressed. It was to a degree but much better than expected. Yes, there are bare spots here and there but overall it is in as good or better condition as any of the area courses. Only a couple of the greens showed much distress. Overall we had a great round - three of us played 18 in less than 3 hours. We will be back.
Cranes Roost Plantation
Just like so many other local course the drought and freeze has left the grasses dormant. Otherwise we liked the course
Underrated and nice little hidden gem
The residence of this course have taken over. There’s two courses otters Creek and cranes roost. used to be separate from everything but the board members do a really nice job of making sure that this course is well-maintained and very fairly priced. I feel like every couple of months this course gets better and better. There’s a lot of great elevations.
Greens and overall
The greens were really coming back and looked great and now they are horrible. A lot of dead spots and inconsistent. I don't know what happened as they were coming back nicely and now they have just Fallen apart. The rest looks like they were just mowed for the first time in 3 weeks with furrows that will cost you a ball as is so thick. Fairways are covered in crabgrass or dirt. I am a memory and I'm sad to say that this course needs a lot of work.
Unbelievably Awful…Stay away!!!
I usually do not post negative reviews but in this case I had to. This course was in awful condition. 75% of the greens barely had any grass making it almost impossible to make makable putts. There were weeds all over the tee boxes. The fairways were less than desirable. There has been little to no attention given to this “once upon a time” great course. My friends and I would love to play Cranes Roost again but this course has left a sour taste in our mouths and we’re not going to waste our money playing a course that is obviously unbelievably awful!!!
Ok course
From the reviews I have read, it is improved. Decent layout, in OK shape. Comparing apples to Apples it has similar layout to Monarch Royal Highlands (right down 27) but not in near as good shape. Its layout not as good as Arlington Ridge (right up 27) and is closer in condition, but still not as good. Better than Kings Ridge in terms of condition which is horrible.
If you get a decent Golfnow deal, its worth it. Gal in clubhouse was very nice.
Something to think about ..... There were apparently only a few groups on the course but pretty slow. Seems a few "members" just popped out on course. I got stuck as a single behind a very slow member foursome for 5 holes and they did not even think of having me play thru.
Come a long way
Played here a month ago and thought I wouldn’t come back, but today I had a visitor who has never played so I thought this would be a great place to learn and to my total surprise I found the courses in very good shape. Greens were rolling about an 8 and fairways were very nice other than some bumps coming off the cart paths. I asked myself how could they be so much different in just a month so after my round I stopped in at the proshop and found out they now have management that really cares about the course, I recommends everyone try it again an absolutely beautiful layout
Maybe u don't get stuck if u had friends. Singles should wait.
