The Plantation Golf Club - Cranes Roost Course

About
The Cranes Roost Course is one of two championship courses at the Plantation at Leesburg. This semi-private golf course features dramatic elevation changes of up to 170 feet. The hilly terrain provides rolling fairways and undulating greens. Water hazards also come into play through much of the golf course, providing further challenge. The Cranes Roost Course accommodates golfers of all skill levels, but it can be especially challenging if taken too casually. In addition to the two golf courses, the Plantation at Leesburg offers a practice facility for golfers to work on their short game as well as a pro shop and staff of golf professionals.

Greens and overall
The greens were really coming back and looked great and now they are horrible. A lot of dead spots and inconsistent. I don't know what happened as they were coming back nicely and now they have just Fallen apart. The rest looks like they were just mowed for the first time in 3 weeks with furrows that will cost you a ball as is so thick. Fairways are covered in crabgrass or dirt. I am a memory and I'm sad to say that this course needs a lot of work.
Unbelievably Awful…Stay away!!!
I usually do not post negative reviews but in this case I had to. This course was in awful condition. 75% of the greens barely had any grass making it almost impossible to make makable putts. There were weeds all over the tee boxes. The fairways were less than desirable. There has been little to no attention given to this “once upon a time” great course. My friends and I would love to play Cranes Roost again but this course has left a sour taste in our mouths and we’re not going to waste our money playing a course that is obviously unbelievably awful!!!
Ok course
From the reviews I have read, it is improved. Decent layout, in OK shape. Comparing apples to Apples it has similar layout to Monarch Royal Highlands (right down 27) but not in near as good shape. Its layout not as good as Arlington Ridge (right up 27) and is closer in condition, but still not as good. Better than Kings Ridge in terms of condition which is horrible.
If you get a decent Golfnow deal, its worth it. Gal in clubhouse was very nice.
Something to think about ..... There were apparently only a few groups on the course but pretty slow. Seems a few "members" just popped out on course. I got stuck as a single behind a very slow member foursome for 5 holes and they did not even think of having me play thru.
Come a long way
Played here a month ago and thought I wouldn’t come back, but today I had a visitor who has never played so I thought this would be a great place to learn and to my total surprise I found the courses in very good shape. Greens were rolling about an 8 and fairways were very nice other than some bumps coming off the cart paths. I asked myself how could they be so much different in just a month so after my round I stopped in at the proshop and found out they now have management that really cares about the course, I recommends everyone try it again an absolutely beautiful layout
Great Value and Fun Course
Fun course and conditions are not bad for the price. Staff is so friendly here and golf instructor Amy has been great. My game has improved so much in just 3 lessons.
Much Improved
This course is undergoing a positive transformation. Ted boxes are green and fresh. Greens roll true and their turf is much better than a few months ago. Also very noticeable is the better quality of grounds maintenance. The course was very playable. The rough is mostly brown and dormant in this dry cool season but that’s to be expected. I did see one fairway with several bare spots where soil has been filled in in preparation for reseeding. Overall I was very pleased with the conditions. Now If I could sink the birdie putts!
In spite of....
In spite of two recent hurricanes, the course was in great shape and except for the high water on a few of the cart paths you would not know the amount of rain and weather in recent weeks. Good course, enjoyable round.
Much better
The course has come a long way since we played it earlier this year. Fairways have improved greatly as have the tee boxes. The greens are playable but need to fill in. Good value for what they are charging. Great layout with a nice mixture of holes. If you are looking for good value this is one of the best options in central Florida.
Not what it was
This golf course needs a lot of work. The greens are awful. The fairways are marginal. The Teebox is a marginal. It has not been a good place to play golf for at least four or five years the best time of the year to play. It is when they over seated after that it’s not very good at all.
They need a superintendent who knows how to take care of the greens
Cranes roost
The greens to to improve. And soon. A golf superintendent, who knows how to take care of this course is needed. Shouldn't be hole after 4 weeks from aerifying
Much improved
Very enjoyable and playable course. Conditions are greatly improved from the past after the local hoa took ownership and has put some money into it. Great value.
Course Condition
Course is in terrible condition. Greens have little grass. Weeds everywhere. Tee boxes were a joke. Don't waste your money!
Do not waste you money on this!!!!!
I have played this course before but this time there was nothing good to say about it. The Tee Boxes were dry and crunchy. The "fairways" were very thin and spotty. The "greens" were either dead and/or dying. I am not sure what has happened and also disturbed that we were not even warned about the conditions in the clubhouse. VERY DISAPPOINTED !!!!!
Maybe u don't get stuck if u had friends. Singles should wait.
